Henseleit TDS Maiden Flight! Almost Ended Badly!

In this video we get the maiden flight on the Henseleit TDS. I was very nervous on this flight and you can hear it in my voice. The landing could of been really bad as I hit motor off and the heli jumped right back in the air and trying to get the head speed back!

What a save, those batteries dropped very quickly after 75%! Especially from 50 to 25%.

Thank you! Yes, on speed helicopters. Your flight time is very sure. Normally two passes into the wind, Two passes down wind and you prepare for landing. They pull a lot of power throughout the flight!

Watching this on my phone I can't see much detail I thought the ground was uneven and you saved it from pitching the blades into the dirt. I think it went well IMHO is your experience and your a good person. I don't care what it sounds like that's how I think about life.

Just waiting on a tail belt for the second flight. After the flight and I got home I found two teeth missing from the belt so new one will be here soon and I’ll get it back together and try again! Turn it up to 2600-2800 RPM and let it sing!

I had a similar 'Oh s**t' moment when I maidened my Piuma. As I landed and Hit throttle cut, my thumb spazzed and bumped the stick to a little positive pitch and did the same as the tds and lifted off the ground slightly.

I have a feeling that’s what happened. Because all curves are the same and rescue was not activated.

Damn! I can feel the tension from this side of the screen🤣. You are usually so calm while flying, it's not really like you at all. I myself was hanging at the edge of my seat for the whole flight. Then it got seriously tense just from the noise it made when going into idle-up 2. And boy, is it fast! And you we're not even pushing it. At the end, my heart must have skipped a beat or two when it jumped up with motor off. Great save! Thanks for the awesome video. Can't wait for another flight of the TDS. Hope you sort motor-off-and-full-pitch glitch soon.

The irony is that even though it was going fast by sport model standards, it was barely breaking a sweat compared to its capability. Enjoy!

LMAO you dropped the OH "S" bomb. I've never seen you this nervose. This thing must be $$$$ and of course rare to own , I get it. Love watching your speed runs. I've been into cars mostly classic cars all my life. You're speed runs remind me when i go to the drag strips and the tree goes green. Those cars just eat as they rip. The same as listening to the battery voltage drop as that heli eats.

I try to never curse on the channel that way. Any age and families can watch these videos and not worry. But sometimes you just have to lol. Speed helicopters are like full blown race cars. After you make a couple runs at high horsepower, you have to pull the engine apart or pull something apart replace stuff and fix it. I feel like I pull these things apart more then I fly them! Lol

Whoa! That happened to me with a Blade 360 CFX way back when I was starting out. I downloaded the config file for my DX6 from Spektrum and the default (for some odd weird stupid reason) is to have the pitch curve of the Idle banks different than the Hold position. So that is exactly what happens. The pitch goes from one spot to another instantly. That time I also saved it miraculously. Glad yours made it out alive as well. Keep going and braving the cold! I am out of flying until weather turns.

My first thought was I hit rescue. I checked the logs and rescue was never activated. So my second thought was it had to be a different curve between hold and bank one. But when I check in the Vcontroller, I don’t see any different curves. Witch is weird!

The heli jumping up on landing after you hit throttle hold is because your pitch curve for bank 1 is different than your pitch curve for throttle hold. Great flight you should bring it to IRCHA and compete in the SpeedCup.

Definitely that and the price tag on this model lol but it being not mine makes it even worse! If it was my personal helicopter, I would not have been nervous!

Awsome video as always Jeff! I was super excited to see the flight of this heli after your review. Bit off topic but do you know of an aluminum gimbal upgrade for the Spektrum Nx8? Something that would be like the AG01 upgrade for Vbar? I did some poking around and I wasn't able to find anything right off the bat, but I didn't look super hard and figured I would just ask you. Thanks as always man!

Thank you! I can’t wait to get it back in here and get an actual speed flight in with it. There is no drop in Jimbos that I know of. But I do know somebody put the AG01 in a NX8. I seen it on one of the groups.

I don’t get nervous very often. Actually, hardly ever! But not only is this helicopter, not mine, but extremely rare and extremely expensive! Every part is expensive! The tail boom alone cost would an entire SAB Kits goes for…..

That was barely any power in that flight, too! Only 2000 RPM head speed a lot more to go! That lift off on landing could’ve been devastating!

Ohh yeah….. sooner or later we all have the “what the hell was that “ moment when flying helic. I just had one on an old Hirobo Sceadu where crankshaft fan nut came loose and fan unthreaded itself and locked in the fan shroud. Needless to say, the crank stopped instantly and connecting rod snapped off in one millisecond at 20 ft in the air. Luckily landed with no damage but a big bounce on grass.

Yes we do! It’s all part of the hobby lol that is always a bad day when the crankshaft bolt comes loose on any Nitro Heli, especially vintage ones that are rare and extremely difficult to get parts for

Yes, sir! All parts are hand made in Germany and you can only get them from them. It takes weeks to get anything. We had to order a tail belt and it will be 4-6 weeks before we get it.

That is what I initially thought, but there is no different pitch curve. They are all the same so I’m not 100% sure yet.

Sorry one more editing tip. Even if your original footage is only 1080p if you upscale to 1440p and then upload that the action shots will look a lot clearer. RU-vid gives quite a bit more bitrate for 1440p so it it doesn't turn the backgrounds on action shots into a smeary mess like it does with 1080p.

I do film in 1440 P 60 frames per second. GoPros are very sensitive to the colors and contrast outside. If it’s green grass, the video quality is 20 times better than if it’s brown. And also if the sun is not directly overhead or behind, it will make the video look weird to.

@@westhobbiesrc8051ok well the upload itself appears to be maxed out at 1080p. Might want to check your render settings to verify you're rendering the final video out at 1440p
