A short walk around Heptonstall, in the Calder Valley in West Yorkshire, and a short summary of the Cragg Vale Coiners, finishing with a visit to the grave of "King" David Hartley, the leader of the gang.
I love this kind of history. The poor villagers tried to get one over on the state. Yeah they were criminals but the same can be said of many of the posh nobs and the stuff they were getting away with at the time (and nowadays!). I hope they enjoyed their brief amount of time with real money for a change. In the end they paid the price for it.
