As a Chinese, I can say that younger generations are more likely not to eat dogs at all. Some of the old generations ate dogs because they have nothing to eat, in famine years like late 1950s and early 1960s, people just eat whatever they got. Not anymore now
I'm from the Netherlands. There is a city close by mine, which are "famous" for eating cats in WordWar II. People need to survive, where ever they live..
The only country in Europe where people eat dogs is Switzerland and they do it away from the public eye. We are all different. My Serbs go to war at least twice a century, and the Swiss never go to war. :) Some Italians eat cats and criticize those who eat dogs... I'm a vegan who has empathy for all kinds of animals, but I can understand people eating meat. Anyone who is taught to eat a certain type of food from childhood is likely to eat it throughout their lives. It is a way of life that is inherited from the family like a religion or a love for a sports club. It is hypocritical for people who eat pork, cow, sheep or chicken to condemn the Chinese for eating dogs. Many people who eat dogs are disgusted by pork and cannot believe that anyone can eat it. The English royal family eats pate made from nightingale tongues, and the Beckham family smears themselves with pomade made from robin excrement, for example. By the way, you have excellent communication skills. It's clear that people feel comfortable talking to you. It is an excellent foundation for a successful career.

I was surprised to hear you didn’t know who Qu Yan was. Dragon boat racing is growing here in Florida. All the large Florida cities, and some smaller, have teams, and compete and train often. I’d like to see dragon boat racing as a summer Olympic sport some day. 🍻

The dog meat in China is not like your cute poodles...these dogs are more like wolves or coyotes, just FYI. Im from the US and tried the dog meat while visiting china and learned all about it while I was there.
Actually, that girl is wrong. US is neither the richest country overall, nor richest per capita. A person with trillions of dollars of debt on his bank account may be a candidate for the poorest person, but definitely not the richest. Infrastructure-wise, US is falling apart. GDP itself is a flawed mechanic, especially the way it's calculated in the US, so no point in that. Comparing UK or US salary to Chinese salary also doesn't make much sense. Sure, you can have 2,5x higher salary in the UK, but what of it if your rent is much higher, food prices much higher, products and services much higher, and so on. If you earn 16,000 and after expenses you have 1000 left, you're not richer than someone who earns 6000 and has 2000 left after expenses. People are way too used to artificial measurements invented by the West, and manipulated by the West, to make the West look better. I live in Europe. My country's GDP is almost 4x higher now than at the beginning of the century, and yet the country is more in debt, and people in worse financial situation. You'd think people earn almost 4x more now, but that's now how GDP works.
The average networth of Americans as a total per capita population is over 1 million usd in 2023. The US debt of 35 trillion equates to around 110,000 usd debt per person. Subtract the debt and US still is technically the richest country by a mile.
Dog meat, eh? I’m currently in Yangshuo and I pass three restaurants with dog meat every morning on my ten-minute walk to class. There were also dog meat restaurants near my apartment in Guiyang and in Kunming. I’ve only eaten it once, in Jiangxi during the year of the dog on the first day of the year of the dog. As a 外国人 the idea was a bit unsettling, but the flavor wasn’t bad. Now I think that there’s not much difference between eating these different types of meat except for emotional attachment. Why is pork okay but not dog? (Pigs are smarter.) Though dog meat is becoming less and less popular to eat, it’s still more popular than they kids on the video made out.
I haven't eaten meat for many years for various reasons and honestly I don't miss it. The main one is definitely to send a message against intensive animal farming. I appreciated your sincerity, I don't understand for those who eat meat what sensational or scandalous difference there is between eating a dog or a pig.

I actually agree that it might be better for the channel but selfishly I hope Jack doesn’t change it. I appreciate the more in-depth conversations on this channel and feel they set it apart from others in the “SHOCKED when I speak their language” genre. You still get that fun moment of surprise, but also more of the human connection and a bit more substance to the conversation. Hopefully the shorts will help with the visibility a bit and this channel will blow up soon either way, it deserves to be much much bigger!
Hmm . . . should ethics concern itself with just one animal that's being consumed for meat by a minority or should we look at the billions who consume the cows and chickens or other farm animals?
I don't see why eating dog is so controversial. I personnally don't, and wouldn't, but so what ? It's very subjective, some people find that eating pork is also disgusting too (not just for religious reason, but some people find the animal gross, it's subjective again). In central asia, they eat horses, in france they eat frogs and snails, in iceland they eat fermented Shark meat...etc Respect other cultures, if they want to eat dogs, you're in no position to judge them.
