HAPPY BLACK HISTORY MONTH!!!
Miss Eartha Kitt, born in 1927, was a singer, dancer, actress, Broadway performer, and civil rights activist in her time. Miss Eartha Kitt was the original singer of Santa Baby, released in 1953, which is RIAA certified gold today. Miss Kitt was the first black woman to portray Catwoman on television in 1967 and her fierce pur became synonymous with the role. In 1968, Kitt attended a lady's luncheon at the White House and made "anti-war" remarks in which President Johnson found to be offensive and he had the government launch investigations into Kitt. She was consequently blacklisted from Hollywood for eight years and had to find work overseas. Eartha Kitt eventually made a return to the U.S. in which she returned to Broadway in the play called Timbuktu. Kitt has starred in films such as The Mark of the Hawk, St. Louis Blues, Anna Lucasta, Boomerang, and Disney's film Holes. Eartha was diagnosed with stage-3 colon cancer in 2006 and passed away in 2008 on Christmas day.
*According to one of my viewers, I incorrectly cited Eartha Kitt's divorce from her husband, Bill McDonald, as happening in 1956, when they actually officially divorced in 1965. So I just wanted to correct that mistake here. My apologies. I strive to tell these stories as accurately as possible so I appreciate all feedback, fact checks and corrections. So thank you to my viewer for bringing this to my attention.
FYI: I gave myself a little beauty mark while doing my makeup and you can hardly see it in the video. LOL!
