Ravi Shankar is a world class sitar player who taught George Harrison how to play the sitar. Ravi came to America with the Beatles and met concert promoter Sue Jones. Nora is thier love child

David, I don’t doubt the facts of your comment at all. But if that’s true, Norah is much older than I thought. That puts her in at least her early fifties. Wow. 🤘😎

@@sarablack2547 Thanks Sara for that. I never doubted the connection, but was confused when David mentioned Ravi and The Beatles coming to America. I was thinking that was the “time of conception” here. In hindsight it’s clear he never inferred that. Be well, from a fellow traveler….

@@sarablack2547 See, I knew she was younger than me. 🙄I guess I still think of her in her twenties. I think I was five or so when The Beatles first made their way across the pond. Sold out everywhere, they did come to New Orleans, City Park Stadium where my parents brought home some memorabilia. 👈 I was lucky enough to see George tour the album “All Things Must Pass” a personal post Beatles fav. The album btw was recorded in short order with the help of Eric Clapton and the first ever recording of what became Derek and The Dominoes. I appreciated Ravi, but his music wasn’t my cup of tea. I love the fact that for the first time I can recall, a song got played without any pauses or interruptions. Nora’s voice is just that appealing. You don’t want to stop it for anything.

Norah can calm a turbulent mind in just one song.......... and then the world seems so much better. I will never forget when she broke onto the scene in 2002 with this song ALL OVER THE RADIO (Producer Arif Mardin launched Norahs career......and the rest is history). This song, Don't Know Why is her biggest hit to date from her Come Away With Me record, but has written and sung many, many very good songs. Can't get enough of this artist. A couple more must listens: Humble Me and Turn Me On. Great reaction, TY.

This is actually a cover of Jesse Harris' original that was released in 1999 (Norah's came out in January 2002). It was the debut single from her debut album Come Away with Me (2002); it peaked at #30 on the Hot 100 and won three Grammy Awards for Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. The song also remains Norah's biggest hit single in the U.S. to date and her only one to reach the top 40 of the Hot 100. Please react to Norah Jones - "Chasing Pirates."

I thought I'd already seen this, watched a lot of these reaction videos. But I haven't. I got a question though, and I ask it to any American who reads this who watches this reaction video, who hears Norah Jones for the first time. How? I don't know HOW you can't have heard her before, know of her, at least vaguely, even know the name, be aware she's a musician. I'm a Welshman. I live more than 3000 miles away in a pokey little Kingdom called the United Kingdom, and I first heard that beautiful voice when I was 18 years old, as I got home from college on a rainy winter evening. It Was October or early November, 2001. A bare few months after the major tragedy that would cause shockwave's around the world that still reverbrate to this day. I have known about and been a huge fan of this INCREDIBLE talent known as Norah Jones, for 23 years. Now I get it, if your young, an early 20's something, she'll be technically before your time, but HOW HAVE YOU NEVER HEARD OF HER. [She's freaking amazing]

Nice reaction to the remake and Nora's voice... It's different and she does a great job... There's a 16 yr old artist named Angelina Jordan who has a VERY UNIQUE voice, Nora actually invited Angelina to open a concert... Here's a link to Angelina ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-CuQVyG2dc8o.html singing (a cover of Roberta Flack's "Killing Me Softly") she's Norwegian But I think you'd really enjoy her style... Either way, your reactions are ALWAYS fun to watch!! PEACE🙏🏻🎶🎵🎤🎹🎸🎷🎶🎶

Katie Melua has a sweet voice, I like her album, piece by piece. But for my money she wouldn't even have a career were it not for Nora. [in the traditional American spelling] Jones by contrast is FAR MORE than just a sweet voice. She made musicality COOL again. She shattered a seemingly impregnable pop wall. She led the way so Katie Melua's, Kelly Clarkson's and Taylor Swift's could follow, while at the same time being the heavyweight cavalry the likes of your Shania Twain's, Diana Kralls and Celine Dions, yearned for. She is IMO better than pretty much everyone she opened the door for, while being an OBVIOUS equal to the many great act's already around that she helped focus perception back onto. Pop had dominated In the US, for nearly a decade before Nora came about. And then she did. Her debut [some claim Jazz but it's actually Jazz influenced but more of a mash up of styles] album literally exploded, and didn't leave the album charts for 164 week, and THEN it kept coming back. It was the highest selling album over a single year, until 2011. It and to a lesser extent her next two albums afforded her so much success that since her 4th, the fall, in 2009, Jones hes just been doing EXACTLY what she desires, musically, for FIFTEEN YEARS. Few can claim that. No disrespect to Katie Melua, but were it not for Nora she would have been clutching at straw's, aimless and without a rudder. She's more a popified easy listening [ish] Nora Jones lite with a sweet voice that lack's Jones unmistakeable cadences, to a backdrop of safe Piano in place of Jones every note having meaning and relevance to the soundscape of her devising. And that, in a time before Nora took the kid gloves of [the music generally framing her voice] shes a hundred time's what she was in 2002. Melua would be lucky to be where Jones was then, now.

Shawn and Mel. Love your reactions. Norah's trained smooth, calm voice is good. I like her vibe but seems range-bound and predictable after awhile. Karen Carpenter is the gold standard, the GOAT female vocalist. She had no professional voice training (also the first, best female drummer) for that contralto, haunting voice.
