Rules:
1. Only my starter in battle
2. No items in battle, except held items
3. No glitches, exploits, or save states
4. No movepool evasion-boosting moves before level 100*
Rule details:
-- I make no attempt to have the exact same rule details between generations.
-- I am allowed to manipulate my starter
-- I play the game at 4x game speed
-- For fair comparisons my Pokemon have perfect (or near perfect) DVs / IVs
-- I am allowed to catch HM users - I can use all field moves
-- Evasion boosting is allowed if the move is not obtained from the Pokemon’s movepool. For example, using Mimic or Mirror Move to boost evasion is allowed.
-- Surge's trash-can-puzzle is automatically solved
-- The bike is allowed in gen1 & 4, banned in gen2, and allowed only to bypass terrain in gen3
-- Saving between league members is allowed
-- I can pause the game and timer to take breaks
-- Items obtained with the ability Pickup can only be used if the starter obtained them
-- The footage is sped up & slowed down to match the pace of my narration

-- All battle-mechanic glitches are allowed (glitches that occur outside of battle are banned)
-- In generation 1, I'm allowed to skip Marowak with the Poke Doll

33:58 I think solo runners in general underestimate how strong fury cutter is when it gets built up, especially on bug types. Max power fury cutter hits like a train with STAB and Bugsy’s badge.

@@xAnonymousComediait’s an art of the possible move, kind of like rollout but more accurate. And playing at 4x speed building it up doesn’t take that much time and fast resets if you don’t get the luck is often faster that the training that would be required to beat certain road blocks.

I remember being 10 and playing Gold and I was convinced that Pinsir evolved into Heracross. I kept leveling up Pinsir hoping it would happen.

I dont think theres a reliable way to beat emerald with shed only. Scott would have to rely on poor ai choices, and good ai with SE attacks will be insurmountable

Heracross really comes into its own WHEN IT GETS MOVES. it's quite good in Gen III and Gen IV. it may do well in Emerald if it can use Leer and Horn Attack to get past Roxanne, and then it doesn't have to deal with Ghost types early, learns Rock Tomb for Flying types, Brick Break at 23 for Magneton, and it can learn Dig. you may notice that it couldn't learn Dig in Gen II, but for whatever reason Game Freak changed that going forward. which makes sense. it's a beetle. beetles dig! oh yeah and it gets Bulk Up. and for fun you could use the move tutors for either Rollout or Fury Cutter, though I don't know when that would ever be optimal. Platinum is kind of wild because it gets five Level 1 moves. Endure, Horn Attack, Leer, NIGHT SLASH, Tackle. I think either Endure or Tackle would be the odd one out. idk if Night Slash is that great, but it's quite strong, and means it doesn't need to grind to 19 to get Brick Break to deal with Roark. it also gets Aerial Ace by level-up early as an answer to Gardenia. Close Combat at 37 is pretty great. still has Endure/Reversal if you want it. Rock Tomb, Rock Slide, Dig, Earthquake, Bulk Up, Shadow Claw, and uh, it has theoretical mid-game access to Swords Dance via the Game Corner. its speed does become more of a liability with Speed Creep in later generations, for sure. investing in Carbos is still not a bad idea.

Love the vids Scott! I know you love consistency too so I’m gonna point out something I noticed in the overlay. When the enemy has 6 pokemon, the last one’s attack stat is orange. I notice it on Petrel every time and idk if you noticed 🙃

I wonder if Sentret for Cut/Surf and then pick up a poliwhirl while surfing to cover Strength/Whirlpool/Waterfall would be a better approach to HM users? EDIT: Though this does have the disadvantage that poliwhirl encouter rate is only 10% and poliwag can't learn strength... then again, if you manipulate the encounter like in Gen3, I guess that's immaterial?

If you want to do Tauros in Crystal one day, I think it'd be fun to see a Tauros vs. Miltank video. Put the two bovine mon against each other. Now, people will mention that Tauros is way better than Miltank, and that run would be unfair. It's actually not. A long time ago, I saw someone else do it, I think it was Squidgy? And Miltank won! Because it has a better moveset. If I remember correctly, I think it was because Miltank gets mud slap, but Tauros doesn't, so it's another one in the Heracross and Gligar club, who will also struggle against the rival's Gastly in Azalea town. But yeah, I think with Scott's approach of using hidden power on the 2nd playthrough, Tauros might win the 2nd time, but Miltank will get better 1st run results. It'd be interesting to see, I think.

Oh hell yeah! Was hoping to see a showdown between those two. While I know Pinsir has an obvious disadvantage due to its lack of a STAB move, I am still hopeful he will perform well due to the lack of psychic weakness. At least this is my guess before watching the video.

I love bug pokémon, Pinsir is one of my favorites and I like heracross a lot too. I have just about finished a casual playthrough of crystal and I have a heracross on my team, its quite frustrating that he still hasnt learnt megahorn, theres only red left to fight.

Ive been doing my on Heracross only Crystal run for a bit. Early game ghosts are the worst. Only learnable move to deal with them was fury cutter and swagger

44:30 I think it would be funnier when every time Venomoth shows up on an opponent's team, you just show different type icons under it, or use a type combo from Kirby 64, like "Bomb and Cutter". 1:00:45 Wow, Hidden Power was so bad, you somehow unlearned it and put Horn Attack back in your moveset? Oh yeah, something I've noticed is that when you go up against a team of 6, for some reason the 6th member's Attack Stat has more of an orange color on it than the other 5.

Before watching: I love these two guys! I think have a really cool design. This might be really close. Both are physical attackers. Both with the same speed and the same physical attack stats. And neither of them can use any special attack, except for Thief. This means Pinsir‘s +15 in Special attack is wasted, meaning Heracross has the slightly better stats, given that they have the same total. Heracross can learn Earthquake and gets STAB on Fighting attacks, although there aren‘t many good fighting moves, but Pinsir learns Swords Dance. Horn Attack is better than ViceGrip early on, so Heracross will have the slightly better start… Frankly, this is tough to call! I think Pinsir will benefit from his set-up move later in the game. Also, Heracross will pay for being Fighting type, because of the strong Psychic types. So, Pinsir might win. But frankly, this will be very, very even. After watching: Certainly didn‘t have the Reversal strategy on my bingo card! But that was fun! And yet despite that, Pinsir completely dominated! I did expect it to be better, but not that good. Great work! Really fun video! :-)

Is it wrong that I say a Slow growth rate could be advantageous if your Mon can afford to beat the game at a low level? I mean, you’d go through less bars of dialogue in battle than if you were using a faster levelling Pokémon.
