"Rise" is a song written by Andy Armer and Randy Badazz Alpert, and first recorded by trumpeter Herb Alpert. The instrumental track was included on Alpert's solo album "Rise" and released as a single in 1979. It reached number one on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 in October of that year and remained in the top position for two weeks. Herb Alpert thus became the first (and only) artist to reach the top of the Hot 100 with a vocal performance ("This Guy's in Love with You", 1968) as well as an instrumental performance. "Rise" also spent one week atop the adult contemporary chart. "Rise" was successful on the other charts, peaking at number four on the R&B chart and number seventeen on the dance chart. The recording also received a Grammy Award for Best Pop Instrumental Performance. Songwriters Andy Armer and Randy Badazz Alpert were both nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Instrumental Composition. The single, "Rise" has sold more then a million copies.

A old friend of mine from back in the day, Andy Armer wrote this song and Herb recorded it. I went to A&M Record's and watched Herb work on a new album as Andy and Herb's nephew Randy were recording an album in Studio C, the same one used by the Bangle's to record their hits. The years have gone by but the memories are like yesterday. 🎺🎼💽

Sounds like you need to broaden your musical appreciation a bit. To understand that musicians have take parts from songs and music since time began. Hip Hop and Rap artists just need beats. Hence the lifted drum loop. If you listened to ELO you will hear the Beatles. If you listen to Emerson Lake and Palmer, you will hear phrases almost lifted wholesale, by Keith Emerson, from practically anything by Dave Brubeck. Particularly Blue Rhonda A La Turk. Just the genetics of music. That’s all it is.

@Knight-of-Sarcasm 2 года назад
The song is good. The scene was horrible and I look back now and recoil at how we sugar coated it. The song should not have been used for that scene; it is too good a song to have that darkness to it. I wasn't old enough to understand what was happening on mom's soap, but in 1981 I WAS older and ran home for the wedding in November. I am forever tied to the soap because Denise Alexander was on a soap and my mom fell in love with her name when she was pregnant with me. In time, Denise moved to GH to become Laura's mom and that cemented it. I know this is a downer to your comment, but as a survivor, I don't want people to get the wrong idea about the Disco Scene.

@@Knight-of-Sarcasm I was only saying that people is going to remember that song with that scene. I don't condone rape of any kind. @Knight-of-Sarcasm
@Knight-of-Sarcasm 2 года назад
@@aliceorr6426 I liked them too and that wedding was amazing. It was everything young me wanted in a fairy tale. It wasn't until I was much much older that I discovered their past. By that time, the song was just a song GH played often when L&L were on screen and I didn't know the origins. I HATE that they used this song for that because it's a gorgeous song and deserves to not have any tarnish associated with it.

As founder of A&M Records, along with Jerry Moss (the "M" of A&M), he was involved in so much of the music we heard growing up. He sold his record company to Polygram for $500 million in 1989.
