ABC's Brian Ross gets answers from company under federal investigation. ABC's Brian Ross speaks to former Herbalife executive being paid by Wall Street hedge fund manager.
My buddy lost 60 lbs on Herbalife and when I asked him how he said that after spending almost 1000$ a month on Herbalife he now can't afford food and by not eating his lost weight. Swear true story.
DrummerJacob - pretty sure 155 is right... sign up 5 people, who sign up 5 people each (25), who sign up 5 people each (125)... so that’s 5+25+125=155 :)
@@grendelum Holy shit. That's why we were told to actually remember the things we learned in school. I've been smokin the herbalife all week as well, didn't help my quick mafs :)
I wish they'd do a followup story on the girl who wouldn't talk to the reporter and said how much she loves Herbalife. Can't imagine how many cars and vacation homes she must have now.
CVetteMan1111 I’m sure you’ve worked for a boss that does well or shoot you might have seen the company owner and never drove their Lamborghini or Ferrari soooo let’s be real most people will never achieve that either
Everywhere always there are black sheeps. FTC recently proved that Herbalife is not a pyramid. And that makes me more confident and proud of my company. I'm a 20 years old distributor and i would never do that shitty thing those distributors from the video did. Greetings!
MrMark another herbalife distributor :D and they didn´t "prove" it isn´t a pyramid. they just stopped calling it like that because of the settlement, that herbalife will pay consumers who they deceived and that they will restructure their operations.
The one thing that I love about herbalife is that They are in equal opportunity employer. They will take your money until you are broke no matter what race creedOr gender you are.
@@tomcampbell1728 I know more than you can imagine. So go back to your cult and enjoy the downfall of both. I guess Scientology goes down the toilet first. Good riddance. Take the little frog David with you too.
@Erik Flores I'm sorry, but everything is wrong with that cult. You are a SP and an enemy in their eyes. Like every other religion or cult. You sherry pick.
Really? How so? Let's for example place you in control of a multi-billion dollar company. You then have several other competitors, news agencies, and so forth, trying to slander your company. Then, you have employees who have never had prior experience in talking with news start explaining your product. Then, all of a sudden the news is now changing what the person's words were into something they can propagandize. You in turn have millions of viewers starting to feel negatively about your business and you lose volume. Why? In simple words. It's just like a rumor spreading through a school. It's easily distorted, and by time it reaches person 20 it's nothing close to what it started as. THIS is what news agencies tend to do. Now it's pretty obvious that yes... A very small percentage of people will actually become rich doing something like this, BUT it is possible. It's not going to happen overnight, nor would it be easy, and most likely about 80% of sales reps will make $100-$300 a month income based on an hour or two a day. And that is a realistic picture. IF you want to take it further you could. But what is wrong with a simple boost of income for someone who wanted opportunity. As for those who say that they sell a magic powder are very wrong. First off... Herbalife for example state on their websites nutritional advice as to how to eat healthy, and that simply taking their product won't cut it. Anyone in the fitness industry knows that being "fit" requires dedication with nutrition as well as exercise. Finding a healthy balance. No where have I seen thus far shows that Herbalife claims anything less.
Austin Catlin first off, keeping employees from divulging trade secrets is one thing, but gagging is just plain stupid; which brings us to point two: Letting media have access, prevent speculation, and only having coached people talking to the press, just gives the impression that there is something to hide. Media can distort any clip, even one of silence or a 'no comment', into a big admittance of guilt. So give the media free access is better than stone-walling
Not exactly. Attacking someone who is just looking to make an income, become healthier, and improve their life and others around them is what they were doing. They clearly are not interested in seeing what the company is really about, because all it focuses on is pointing out what it isn't, and how the company supposedly is unfair. And yes, that's exactly what was being done. People are being attacked for simply taking a product, and enjoying their life. What is wrong with that? How is buying, and selling a product that isn't even really about the product. YES. It will depend on the distributor, and the member, however generally it's about improving a community, and a way to improve one's current position financially, mentally, emotionally, and physically. I personally see nothing wrong with this picture. Even when it's being distorted by ABC news.
Austin Catlin Point is, YOU CAN'T IMPROVE FINANCIALLY!! The products aren't bad, but the promise of "wealth" is what's bad. MLMs are all the same, you can't get rich, unless you are in a high position in the hierarchy, (If you are the first in your community, and you are the only person recruiting, you'll succeed). Problem is that there are MLMs selling dildos, makup, kitchenware, aloe vera products, "magical juices", coffee, etc. ad nauseam, and so there are few "untapped markets". Today, you'll get richer, quicker, by finding something you are good at making yourself, (knit socks, knives, cupcakes), and selling them on the internet (Etsy, Ebay, Facebook), or to your local community, (some shops will shelve your product on a "profit-sharing" deal, if it's of sellable quality). And you are unfair to ABC, they had Herbalife management, tell their whole story. This was pretty balanced. Everybody had their say, (which is more than Fox News allows anyone to in their stories)
I feel as if you are missing the point. Herbalife isn't about the product. It's about a life change, and benefiting as a community, as being able to successfully implement an extra income (No matter how much that income is). Herbalife does not promote that you WILL get rich, but that you can implement an extra income. Even on their website of which they show ALL their given data. Anyone who goes on can see point blank that only a fraction of 1% make anywhere near 100k a year. Also, there are MANY ways to sell a product than just in one community. There are those who access internet marketing, those who make a business revolving around meal shakes, those who ARE certified personal trainers with an education that do support Herbalife. It's about the people, not the product.
I bumped into an old friend recently who is now working for Herbalife, he was standing in a city street soaking wet, after 20 years or so of not seeing him he went straight into the sales pitch, to which my response was I'm not interested. As opposed to telling me about the products all he could talk about was how his boss owned a huge house and drove a $100,000 car, very sad to see !
Because your fat ass doesn't exercise and you're not on a calotic deficit, So there will never be an effect rather you'll get fatter because this herbalife thing is a herbal multivitamins.
Ok she but a milionária house, so show the payment from bank account and can I go there visiting her house??? Scammmmm it,s a hipnose to others who is starting and using the people Dreams to get involved and loose money and friends.
...the fact that that woman said “I just said I love Herbalife” when that other woman came up to say “its best to not talk to media, corporate is coming to talk to them”. Like if she said anything she was going to be hurt, like she had to say she loved Herbalife. Creepy, cult like stuff.
Jordanlak She knew herbal violence was getting ready to happen if she didn’t stop talking she was getting ready to try their new flavor ..herbalsmacked lol I’m like girl you look scared as hell like you know your gonna be beaten off cam
herbalife is obviously a complete loser shitshow. however, i work a corporate gig for a fortune 100 company and if abc news walked up to me at an event, i would feel awkward talking to them as well.
Remember he used to work for Disney, you know like Disneyland, Donald Duck cartoons, the ruination of the Star Wars series franchise, Frozen 2 wherein the young ice queen goes looking for her parents & hooks up in a politically correct lesbi' relationship...
Tan 1717 except you can get out whenever you want with zero retaliation. You can also opt to sign up for yourself and not be required to sell anything, just like any membership.
If it looks like a pyramid scheme, sounds like a pyramid scheme, walks like a pyramid scheme, talks like a pyramid scheme. Its probably a pyramid scheme.
a friend of mine entire life revolves around Herbalife. that's what turned me out. at first I considered the product just among others, but when he started talking about being a member, my flag went up. I don't care about how good the product is, if you're talking more about all the money you can make than health benefits, I am not buying whatever you're selling.
Pyramid schemes scare me, I’ve had friends stop talking to me because I wouldn’t buy their product. All these MLM business seem more like a cult than anything. The sellers harass you on social media constantly too. It’s so annoying. I rather have a stable 9-5 where I know my paycheck will always be the same.
A true entrepreneur does not have to bug the hell out of everyone and lose all their friends and family. There are plenty of people that make big bucks not trying to scam everyone like this company. MLMs are very dangerous to get into. Like other people have stated, they are more like cults than a business.
Random chick: I loooove Herbalife. HL person: Don’t talk to them. We have representatives coming to talk to them. Random chick: it’s ok I just said I love Herbalife. 😂😂😂
I almost got sucked into this. I was looking for a job on the newspaper years ago and saw one of their ads. It did NOT say "HerbaLife" anywhere; it just said to go to some hotel and we'll get briefed there. A ton of us went. We were herded into the hotel's auditorium, then BAM, HerbaLife's video came on. I was not familiar with them, but the second that video played I was thinking to myself, "OMG I just accidentally came to a recruitment for a cult." I wanted out ASAP, but I waited til the end. Upfront they wanted us to pay a certain amount for our "first package." They basically made money off a lot of people in that one day. I said no and they made me feel bad about it. They said I could leave, so I left. Knowing what I know now, it felt like a Scientology gathering with promises of wealth and high-energy self-patting on the backs. Yikes.
Glad u didn't get caught up in this crap its crazy tho hearing well reading your story i got married 6yrs ago and we stayed at tge Wyngate hotel and they had a herbal life meeting goin on that weekend it was a bunch of latino people and 1 black guy who looked 25 told me he eas 50 sumthing and said herbal life was da reason he looked so good and tried 2 suck me in fuck dat

But I'm guessing you'd rather trust the pills that contain floor cleaners and suck before trusting something that's proven to help. Had you attended youd have seen the testimony of the members too. Oh well, your loss.
You cant start NO business in life with no money lmao. You ppl are delusional to think someone just gonna take a risk on some random person and give them products to sell that they don't know from a can of paint. Invest in yourself. Not saying I'm an herbalife fan. Im just saying. Period
@@dyamano if I had a $ for everyone that tried to get me to join Amway, I would be rich now. They all told me that they would be able to quit their regular jobs in a year. Almost 40 years later, they are all still working their regular jobs and complaining about how they can't afford to retire.
When people are desperate they can fall for anything. We all do stupid things when we are desperate. This is just another way that people feed off of others.
It is!!! I went to a workout thinking it was only a workout. Then the whole fucking time they are trying to sell me Herbalife. Also they all talk the same. So energetic and it’s really annoying.
Jenn G I went to one of their meetings and yeah it was just like being in a cult. Quite fascinating and scary lol! People also behaved quite strangely really nice but scary lol. It was the twilight zone for sure.
Jenn G most corporations functions are like this. I'm a realtor and kw does this every year. They are not my thing because I'm not into these kinds of functions.
I can relate to this. My late father -- rest his soul, used to be in Amway as well. And I remember the first time I attended one of their seminars/conferences as a young adult, and thinking this is brainwashing. They call it networking. I call it 'pyramiding'
I did Amway before a few years ago. my upline was very nice and very persuasive (I did it just to get the nice cleaning product) . after I decided to quit, I never heard from them again. i felt real dejected because I thought we were friends. No one wants to buy extremely expensive products that have to be shipped. its easier to just go to the store.
I worked in a call center where the sales manager began to pressure ust into buying into this. I was actually fired for refusing. These people are drinking the purple Kool-Aid, I swear...
When I was 15 yo, I was diagnosed as type 1 diabetes. I told a 'friend' at that time about my illness, she said I always wanted to bring you to a special place. She brought me to another classmate's house, and that classmate's mother claimed herself a dietician and sais that the product is good for me. I spent 320 HKD, brought that shake home. Then my mother founded out it says 'consult your gp if you are diabetic. I was so mad at that time and cut off with that friend and her friends. I had a tough time at high school. I should have call the police though, it' s a crime.
People....... eat right and workout and have fun in life that's all!!!!!............ for a limited time you too can have this information for free 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣
Lol. Amway. Because people need to buy soap powder and toilet paper from a pyramid scheme company and they reallyyyy want to over pay for it in the process.
The product does work. The guy I bought it off tried to rope me in to become a distributor but I said no, I will just rip everyone off. He didn't ask me again.
One of my mom friends was a boot camp instructor, extremely fit, and always exercising. But she died just 2 years ago at 22. She was really healthy, but drank Herbalife everyday like water. We think that killed her.
not surprised, must have been kidney failure. It is incomplete protein, additionally huge caloric reduction facilitates ketosis which is very toxic to our body. That is why they loose weight. People who believe this Herbalife thing do not know anything about nutrition.
Years, years ago I was dragged to one of these recruiting events, by someone. I barely escaped..that evening...They wouldn't answer any of my questions, kept forcing me to come aboard, as if I would lose out on the chance of a lifetime if I did not buy in..talk about dodging a bullet!!
Cynthia Hawkins that’s good but how many did you tell them, cause if they’re stalking just to have you join them, then you need to report to the police
Cynthia Hawkins my mom was dragged by a lady into one of these recruiting events too I was like 10 and even I knew this was bullshit then kept rolling my eyes.
Like 20 years ago I remember a few friends of mine told me about Herbal life. I went to their event that required to sign up as a distributor. It all looked so glamorous and cool but this pyramid scheme seemed too good to be true !! The fact that it gave me a cult like feeling just gave me cold feet !! Btw none of my friends ever made money!!
My ex boyfriend many years ago got suckered into Amalie. We had two guys and one lady dressed to the nines come to our house sit at our table, and the first thing out of their mouths was, do you have a dream? As soon as I heard that I knew it was a massive scam. I told my boyfriend not to do it. He bought $500 worth of crap that he couldn't Pawn off other than to his direct family who bought a little of it.
There is a sucker born every minute. By skill-Less idiots who can't stop having children which they can't support so they are also long time suckers who raise their newly born to be suckers. It's easy to implement cult mentality into the working class sucker. Either threw corporate means, religious means and the all time favorite socialist means.
All jobs are pyramid structures though. Your boss makes more than you. His boss more than you and him. Etc. Etc. Most businesses are a hierarchy. One you get paid hourly, the other you get paid if you jump through other hoops.
No, you are missing the most important point. You don't pay to get a job. These people pay to join. Pyramid schemes work by buying from the person who joined before you and selling to newcomers. It is illegal.
Sounds like Amway. I was invited to a meeting and I couldn’t stop laughing at how gullible all the guests were at the meeting and how fake and cheery all the members were.
I fell for Herbalife and I did lose weight but I am terrible at sales. If you have the gift of the gab and can sell then great but if you are not a sales person it does not matter what they tell you about how easy it is to share, you will not be successful. I finally decided to quit when I attended one of their big conferences and as I sat there in this huge auditorium with people singing the Tina turner song "you're simply the best" that is when I thought this is nothing but a greedy bunch of people pretending Herbalife shakes are some kind of miracle workers when in reality people were only singing Herbalife praises because their god was money. I didn't want to be in a place driven by greed, suddenly I felt sick to my stomach because I thought wouldn't it be nice if people could put in some effort to sing to the real God who actually can do miracles and cares more about you than any one of those top Herbalife leaders.
I was introduced 2 Herbalife by my ex bf's sister and I did lose weight, but every1 warned me 2 stop taking it. I stopped cuz it made my stomach hurt bad, I tried 2 sell it as well never made a penny after, well less than 100 I made in 3 checks and that's it.
Heather I agree with you most people are not natural sales people. Also selling nutritional products are a very hard sell. There was a bank most of us know. TCF bank. about ten years ago they had a referral program You refer a new customer to open a checking account. You would get $25 per referral. The new customer had to have $10 to open the account and THE NEXT DAY TCF added $100. Now they have to add direct deposit for the $100 and they get it a month later. My friends laughed at me when I was passing out the referrals at the dollar store next to the bank. I even told them when they came out of the bank I would give them $10 cash. In one day I had 57 people sign up. after giving a lot of people the $10 cash I still made over $1,000 that day. I made about $7,000 that month until the bank changed their requirements.
"wouldn't it be nice if people could put in some effort to sing to the real God who actually can do miracles and cares more about you than any one of those top Herbalife leaders" Oh - who would that be then? Surely not that religion that has been responsible over centuries for millions of people dying, genocide, being tortured, children being raped, taxing of their believers for profit, the degrading of women, the preaching to followers "do as we say not as we do," - etc, all based on hearsay & no physical evidence of existence. Is that the one you mean?
***** because for one, they cannot control it and people of color, poor people and unhealthy people are benefiting. This country makes billions off of all of the above. So if you are of color and start making money, its a problem, if you are poor and start making money, the irs is up your ass quick see that means you get to enjoy all of the tax breaks other rich people get. Cant have that. and if too many sick people improve their health without drugs and with natural supplement, well the drug industy makes less. Sick people are big business. The haves need the have nots.
Of the 8 or so distributors I knew off, only one has made it. The others I've seen selling food out of their trucks and now working retail. After investing thousands. Now, one thing the one lady that made it has said, "You have to go out and sell your product. You can't expect them to show up at your door." She is the only one of the 8 that I know that went out and handed out pamphlets to her club on the daily. She takes an hour or so each day to hand them out. She had a friend who tried being a distributor but she never went to the stores ect. She ended failing. This is just like any other business. You have to hustle.
lillovebuglily hold on there sir, i was born without a left arm and after drinking the magic powder i found 5 dollar in my cousin bedroom. Oh yeah the lord is good.
Many many years ago I was a representative. And that was what was told to me. The more folks I could train to do the same as me, the more money Id make. Another thing told was to immediately start using the products instead of using equal counter parts sold at your grocery store. I fell for the scheme as a teenager. The issue with that investment banker should go to jail!
I still see this scam being promoted hardcore every single day in 2019 and it's just heartbreaking that people still haven't figured out they are only hurting themselves by signing up for this.
There are many gulible fools desperate & hungry for GET RICH QUICK SCHEMES. It is an EMOTIONAL HIGH!! Rush of DOPAMINE hormonal rush!! Like a Gamblers addiction. Freedom to set your OWN HOURS. Sell your own way at your OWN PACE. NO BODY PRESSURING you. You have Control by how much TIME & HARDWORK u put into it. You are In charge. APPEALING. ATTRACTIVE. CAPTIVATING ATTRACTION👀👂👌💰💰💰💰💰💰🔑
I remember when my mom would go to into houses and places just to get Herbalife drinks, powders, etc. I’ve always never understood why they never sold it in store, now I do.
It is absolutely disgusting that this company can advertise on job seeking sites for positions as a health coach with no mention at all of products or company. Then when people get a call back they are told they are going for a job interview for a community based health coach making it sound like they would be working in the counsel or something government related. upon driving an hour to the interview today completely dressed up in a suit I came to a desk and was told that it is a group interview process as it s easier this way and once entering the room I then had to listen to the seminar which I walked out of after 5 minutes. What a lie and a joke! Completely taking advantage of those looking for legitimate work and career prospects then to label it as a 'health coach'.. when all you are doing is selling products! I actually study coaching and counseling at uni and it is NOTHING like this.
Try telling that to some of the Herbalife/MLM drones I've seen post on this video already. As someone who was in Empower Network (or Scampower Netcult), I can tell you that this, Amway, EN all of those MLM companies and programs are horseshit. Next time you get someone who is so pro-MLM and think it's like, the best thing EV-AHHHH and that it's 100% legitimate industry, ask them that why is it that less than 1% of the people involved as affiliates make any high incomes and about 92% of them barely making their autoship costs and/or earning the sort of money a year that a part-timer at McDonalds makes? And as these schemes (because that's what they all are) depend on making money from recruiting people rather than actually selling any products (in some cases, complete crap masquerading as real products), then what happens if your super-duper MLM program or company runs out of people to recruit? If the entire population of the world joined your company under you, how would the very last person at the bottom of the pyramid make any money? THEY WON'T. And that's when the pyramid starts to inevitably collapse and crumble. If the relevant authorities haven't shut them down first, that is.....
I've never experienced anything like that. I spoke with a coach that I know and went to the fit camps. The business opportunity is optional, but it's there of you're ever interested.
Whenever I hear/see anything about Herbalife the first thing that comes to mind is my step mom and her chubby friends who would walk around with their shakes and work out clothes that never actually lost weight.
People that go into something like that shouldn't be so gullible. If you want to be rich doing that type of business, which has been operated by many other companies, you have to realize you must work HARD to be successful. It can happen and it can not happen, depends on your work ethic and what you put into it. Plain and simple. It's no scam because the products are great and actually work if you use as directed. I certainly loved losing the weight I did back in the early 90s.
@@goobygoobdisney because they say they are an MLM company (which is legal) and they always refused to the fact that they are also doing pyramid scheme behind the scene.
Invited by a cousin, I'd gone for a Herbalife seminar. It looked pretty much like it's shown in the video. What I found extremely weird and what really turned me off other than it obviously being a pyramid scheme was that the everyone kept clapping in unison for like five - ten minutes straight.. like a chant. That happened multiple times. They also sang YMCA several times and it all seemed extremely cult-like. I knew for sure, it wasn't for me.
I remember seeing a programme in the U.K. A few years ago and they were interviewing an Indian gentlemen who had a very strong accent who was a seller of these products, unfortunately everytime he said the company name it sounded like "Horrible Life"........I guess he was more accurate than he knew.
I did that early 2000s, a waste of money, they got tricky, I answered an ad and then once I paid for it. I realize that it was Herbalife again that I was paying for and I did not want. You will lose your money. I'm telling you do not buy into that company.
I have a lot of friends doing this and even tried to recruit me. I just can't believe they couldn't smell the bullshit a mile away. And they're wasting their money on this ludicrous company.
You do realize that’s how this company makes money, right? By duping large numbers of people, giving them false hopes that, “You too can be rich if only you work hard enough at it.” Minions...
I worked in Natural health and our focus and excitement was always on the heath and life improvement of our customers. We were rewarded by their success which was the only thing we celebrated. We also emphasized improved diet and lifestyle over supplementation. The growth of our business was a result never a goal.
they would but they collect a lot of tax money off the sucessful ones lol im sure there the only "rich" people who still pay a lot in taxes because they are forced to. The top% are great at hiding there money.
If there are too many red flags then the product just might be a scam. Salesmen promoting this stuff hide behind these legal words "your results may vary."
Same thing with CBD oil though....you can sell it, yet you have to be very careful you are not claiming it works as a cure otherwise you are breaking a law since it's not FDA approved.....so there ya go. Will it ever be FDA approved????? And do we even need it to be? People believe in it and millions are buying via distributors in the same MLM format.....the way I see it is that millions of dollars between manufacturing price and sale price that would normally end up in retail giants like Wallmart or Walgreens or others is now distributed to all.middle people in between and there is always gonna be a top dog so....nothing seems wrong to me, however I bet government dont like having money distributed all around without them having control or their hands on it.....thats all I see here nothing else.
Sounds like that Cutco thing from the early 2000s when you were a struggling student in need of a job and you showed up to a job interview where it was like "we sell knives, how many people do you know, how many people do they know". And you bought the knives sets and sold them to your friends and family.
but at least they know, what are they doing my neighbor is working with this product, she is single mother, and she is getting a lot of money, besides her regular work
