I can't believe they didn't give a checklist for this "challenge". It wouldn't be needed if they tracked what we already picked and didn't make us double pick everything but since we already picked everything there is no way of knowing what you have left to pick, they don't even properly sort the herbs in your satchel. The laziness of Rockstar here is pretty incredible.

The coding is there to “keep track” of the items but they didn’t bother to have a UI to show the player. I shouldn’t have to break out a pen and piece of paper to right every fucking item down and cross them off myself outside the game
I got the 3 plants in New Austin using the Saint Denis buggy method as Arthue. It took days of trial and error but now all I need to do is finish Bandit challenges. Still in chapter 2 btw. Can't wait to have the LoTE outfit for Arthur.
Yeah i havent tried the buggy thing yet, that will be a test for my patience haha but i want to do it too to get Arthur the outfit and the jawbone knife! Yeah it's a bummer that you cant finish the bandit challenge in chapter 2!
@@jonoingame You actually can finish the bandit challenge in chapter 2. For Bandit 9, instead of waiting for urban pleasures, you can get a weak shotgun (either a pump action or semi auto shotgun) and stand a bit far away from the vic- ahem I mean test subjects and go in dead eye and mark their heads. It is a bit hard to do but after a few rounds of trial and error I got it done in chapter 3. Edit was a few grammer mistakes
@@xanderg7156 How is it that Herbalist 9 is not Herbalist 10 and Herbalist 10 is not Herbalist 9. Honestly most of the game's challenges suck and make zero sense. (like why does herbalist and gambler exist?)
I never tried 100% until now and didn't realize how many different orchids there were in this game. Certainly the most interesting of all the "herbs" in my opinion.
My #1 priority when unlocking the open world in Chapter 2, is hunting all the materials necessary for all the satchels to include the LOTE Satchel. To do this, I've hunted down all the gold bars to where I get $3000.00 easy. Either the fence in Van Horn or Rhodes to sell them. I can also double that by completing the treasure hunts. The first weapons I get and customize is the Springfield Rifle and the Varmint Rifle as this makes my job easier. I then make out like Astor, and hunt, HUNT, HUNT!!! I turn Arthur Morgan into a Mountain man for a while. Acquiring two more horses bonded to level 1 with saddles equipped, I can double the big hides and small hides necessary for them. With luck, I can also acquire the cosmetic upgrades for the camp. All in Chapter Two. This way, I can double the amounts of herbs and meats necessary for completing these challenges.
Herbalist 7 you definitely need the legend of the east satchel, no way to carry all that. There were only about 3 currants near Emerald Ranch, also need to go near Annesburg and by Aberdeen Pig farm. For 9 I crafted loads of tonics and made my satchel empty so I could track what I needed
Yeah having the legend of the east satchel helps quite a bit for sure otherwise you need to craft them as soon as you have the resources; i generally get the satchel first thing in chapter 2. There are a bit more curant around emerald station if you follow the train track being built on the hills you should find more!

You know for Challenge 9 there are 2 ways to get those plants in Blackwater and New Austin as Arthur Morgan, simply do a Glitch or Steal a Wagon to Protect Yourself from Incoming Sniper in New Austin. 🌵⚘🌱
Haha yeah that’s exactly what i do most of the time too, walk along the two rivers and the heartlands, easy peasy, until my peace is disturb by some O’Driscols haha
Great video, but is there anything else I should do before I can get the Ghost Orchid and the Spider Orchid, I am in Chapter Two, I have got 36 out of 43 herb species picked. But I have tried your Locations for these two plants several times, leaving the area for days and sleeping for as long has I can in between then returning to check them out but still no luck . Do you have any idea what I am doing wrong or what I could try next PLEASE. Regards Chris.
Hey, to get the legend of the east outfit you "just" need to complete all of the 9 challenges. There are guides for all of them on the channel and in a playlist, the last one, The gambler challenge, is coming soon!
@@jonoingame I am using the wagon tarpaulin attempt to get into New Austin, this works as of yesterday. I was able to collect Wild Feverfew, Red Sage & Black-current in 2 attempts! Just need the Desert Sage & Poppy now!
@@amitabrahammani oh yeah that trick still works, a bit tedious, you will still need it for the desert sage, but the poppy you can get near black water if you dash over there and collect it and go run back to safety!

The problem @user-jk7wi8te5j is having is that the game despawns the last of each orchid species we need for Algernon's exotics missions in Chapter 4 until we are actually doing those missions. The game does this to stop players from completing these tasks ahead of time. If players are encountering this issue, they will have to continue the story campaign until said exotics missions in Chapter 4. The advice I give people trying to complete the herbalist challenges during early game is to simply not pick orchids of any kind until they are doing Herbalist 9. This avoids the despawning plant problem altogether.
Hey, oh boy, there's no checklist in the game unfortunately, so there's no way to know what you picked. I keep a list for myself and check them off as I go (you can copy\paste the timestamps in the video descriptions.) even if you discovered them all, you still need to pick all of them once the challenged is triggered. the ones i forget the most are all the mushrooms and the orchids.
This is where you really pay for the LOTE outfit! Its a brutal grind and with paper work no less without a list to work from. (I wonder why they even bothered to list the horses to tame in the horseman challenge if the wouldn’t do it here 🤷🏻♂️) Jono, you are a god among men for putting this together.
Oh yeah I had to make a list in a notebook and scratching them off one by one. Otherwise there's no way i could remember all the one i got or didnt. Then I've made that video and use it myself for each new playthrough haha
Herbalist 6 is pretty redundant in my opinion, since you have Herbalist 9 You can hunt the animals necessary to Herbalist 10 while doing Herbalist 9, it can save you a good amount of time Thank you for taking your time to put this guide together mister!
I did the 3 birds of prey with the tomahawk while also completing the scavenger kills at the same time. There are a few challenges that can be combined.
Yeah the first time you do this one it's literally a challenge haha All the crafting and plant management is something! It's way easier once you explored the map so much that you know the good spot for each herbs but yeah, i still bare the scares of the first playthrough haha
am I the only one who spends endless hours just picking herbs? Soon as I have my legendary satchel I can not for the life of me pass on any herbs I come across xD Amazing job on the timestamps and the full list friend! :)
haha yeah if i start picking, i always need to ick the next one that "isnt too far"! next thing you know, im out of reach of my horse in woop woop with low cores but, with a full satchel!!
It's always good too collect the maximum amount of herbs, fruits and flowers you can. That's why crafting the Legend of the East Satchel is important. This way you'll always be ready when you meet William, the herbalist, the moonshiners searching for the perfect liquor recipe or if you need to spare some money making your own tonics instead of buying them.
Thanks Jono, this is the ideal way to complete the challenge, but you can use the buggy trick for arthur to pick the herbs in N.A., Arthur deserves the LOTE outfit 😀😀
It kinda sucks that you can't legally complete challenge 9 until the Epilogue. But it is what it is, I guess... Still. Thanks for sharing this with us. ❤❤❤

@@Enchilada1994 whats to practice? I eat minty meat and take tonics yet the sniper still gets me, I can get through Blackwater but as soon as the sniper starts it's game over.
Excellent video. Thank you for the tips. Heres one I'll share: If you have already collected mushrooms when beginning Herbalist 4 you can simply feed those to your horse. No need to even go out to collect!
if you get stuck on 42 check your compendium and see if there one missing. then identify the missing against an online compendium list ... this drove me nuts till I figured it out ... I was missing desert sage.
9 is the worst as they dont (at least) list what has been picked since challenge started. I didnt do the buggy glitch thing and am John. I have all items picked but stuck with 1 more to go. I got all the orchids/rare flowers to get Algernon's gun back in chapter 4 and have seriously gone grabbing everything I can and Im still lacking 1
@@andrewlowden322 Maybe check your satchel and make a list of the flowers you have and only go for the ones that you don't. That' way you don't have to pick them all again

I am a little bit late for the party, but maybe you picked 3 before starting the challenge. So they do not count for the challenge but you’ve got them in the compendium
How do you get rid of a Orchid in the satchel, I have 4 ghost Orchids that I got before starting challenge 9. I believe this is stopping me from finding them anywhere on the map can you help please???
The acuna stars all seem to have vanished for me. I already had 2, found a spider orchid at the place you tagged, tried all the other locations to find them and there are none. Must be a glitch, hopefully it will sort itself out and not stop me completing the challenge. Trying to get everything done in Chapter 2 so this could be an issue. Maybe.
Hey, it’s not really a glitch, the game despawns the last orchid you need before you trigger the proper Algernon mission. All you can do is get most of them and once Algernon gives you the specific request, go and pick the last one needed. I dont know why the game does that really but it’s a pain!

It's a general technique used by the game for all collectibles of any kind; not just plants. It does it for rock carvings, dinosaur bones, cigarette cards and so forth. This avoids the despawning plant problem altogether. Of course, for people who have already encountered missing plants your advice is correct. They have to wait until Algernon's exotics missions in Chapter 4.
in my opinion this herbalist 9 challenge is tedious and redundant since at the start of the game arthur always collecting different kinds of herbs except for orchids then came this challenge .....you have start all over again from 0...bcos even if your satchel is full of herbs it not counted in this challenge ....Rock* wants player a real challenge and boring challenge bcos all of them were already collected from the start...
