From a live BBC radio broadcast from Birmingham Cathedral on 28 February 1973, with the cathedral choir, directed by Roy Massey, and John Prior (organ).
Birmingham was very lucky yo have such a fine choirmaster. And Leeds also with Donald Hunt. Both men seemed happy to serve long apprenticeships in parish churches. It doesnt seem to happen much now.
Very true, there seems to be little, if any transfer between cathedrals and parish churches these days, certainly in the direction of the latter to the former. The career arc of people like Edward Bairstow would be impossible today.
