Yes, there are a lot of resources regarding this solo, and I wanted to make more accurate version of it. I believe harmonic concepts and reharmonization are the main concerns in this solo, so I tried to make the voicings elaborate. Also many transcriptions tended to omit the timing when Herbie hits the bass note. I think that brought in strong swing feel to this solo and I tried to catch that. (I am not trying to criticize anyone who transcribed this solo before.)

And you get the feeling that the ideas would have kept on going forever except they eventually had to stop the song and play another one.

The way Herbie's piano locks in with Tony's ride cymbal is a magic that words cannot do justice to.

Such a breath taking solo, so many seminal moments of jazz seem wrapped up in this one stretch. The famous rising triplet motif, William’s change to straight quavers, the fluidity of the form, at once traditional yet totally free. Absolutely a high water mark in jazz ensemble improvisation. Thanks for pointing out the work of Carter as well, he’s under appreciated, but all of those effects I just mentioned wouldn’t have worked without him.

Excellent transcription! Herbie's use of the triplet in the RH during the 60s stuff, both with Miles and on Blue Note, creates such a nice sense of swing.

Hancock actually did this twice in the early 1960s - there's an earlier version on the 1963 live album Miles in Europe/Antibes. His solo on that one is a lot more complex, but this one is probably more melodic and is still quite inventive with a clear classical influence, a clever use of contrary motion and a great Peterson-like passage in bars 79-81. It's amazing to think that two solos on the same song just a year apart could be so different - I wonder, did these improvisations come on the spot following years of practicing jazz licks and playing in bands, or did he spend a lot of time on this particular number, exploring the possibilities of melody based on the chord changes and what he learned from his great predecessors (Tatum, Peterson, Powell, likely wind giants like Parker and Coltrane) and structure?

His solo from the 1st track My Funny Valentine is positively hallucinogen. It's amazing impressionist diffusion of the architecture awash with color untill it starts swinging man all the solos including how miles plays the head Jesus Christ man it's genius .

thanks greatjob!! i think the last Bb flat note in bar 27 should be on the first downbeat of next bar(28) so the next d flat is on the second downbeat ,i would make shorter a nd g in bar 28 i think thank you again

Yo Dawg, sure Hancock propelled Miles’ 2nd great band to new heights; however, just about everybody is still “sleep in’ on that magical Memphis sound flowing from the horn of one George Coleman - soon departed from the group. Wayne Shorter would fill big shoes in the 3rd great band for Miles.
