Hercules the friendly Grizzly Bear. Hercules was purchased by a Scotsman for £50. His intention was to teach him to wrestle. He discovered however the Hercules was a gentle bear. His friendliness spread to the local community. Soon he became a local celebrity. He went on to TV, film and advertising with Sorbent tissues. HM the Queen invited him to perform at the Royal Jubilee.
A heart warming story.

Comments that are negative concerning these people are wrong! These people loved that animal. And treated him well. They saved his life then gave him a life and he gave them a life. Period it’s that simple. Wonderful story of inspiration and how we don’t truly understand everything! Nicely done.

Bears belongs in the wild..and they have a strong instinct so what I see in this video can be very dangerous..but this video is so beautiful too see..those people seems so nice for the bear..and the bear for them.. This is really beautiful.. So sad at the end.. And the 3 weeks on that island..Hercules was so hungry but he refused to harm every living animal or human being. Rest in peace Hercules..

Bears are not "predators". They are omnivores and opportunistic feeders. Will they eat meat? Yes. Are they out there actively searching for meat? No. Their diet actually consists MORE of berries, grasses, etc. They do take advantage of an opportunity if it arises, particularly during hyperphagia, but they're not like a lion or a wolf. They eat just about anything and a good majority of it doesn't come from another animal.

Andy had such love for Hercules that he just couldn’t give up. I can’t blame him for trying everything he could to get him walking again. I don’t know if he could have loved a child any more than he did that bear. It was a very good story about love, trust and faith.

Bears like Hercules are better left to live in the wild, but if they had not bought him as a cub he would have been euthanised, he was a gentle giant, and the love among all three of them was wonderful!

There is life after passing on and animals also go to spirit world, and animal has free agencies to choose and if you had a pet who was most dear to you and the animal felt the same that relationship you had with that friend who was animal can be together in the spirit world, whether dog, horse, cat, bird, bear, what ever, I am sure that bear will want to be with those who love him and cared for him, must have faith and trust in God and know he is there and we are his children and all animals are our friend....

a few weeks ago, after seeing the old PBS doc 'Night of the Grizzlies', about the Glacier horror, I started watching bear videos like crazy. based on what little I know after that, I'd call this an extremely rare story. I really would rather people leave forest animals in the forest ,but I do like these people, and it is what it is. Herc was domesticated, and indeed treated by these 2 as well as the circumstances would allow. maybe I should watch it again, but was his domestication the reason he didn't fare well in his 'escapade' ? bears are known to exert very little effort getting food, when they can get it more easily, whether stealing another animal's prey, or as Herc was raised, having the food all secured, and handed to him. that statue is one of the best works of art I ever had the pleasure to gaze at. Hercules is dead. long live Hercules!

Salty )...... I just didn't want to be mean ...... I don't agree people taking in wild animals and try tame in them ......to raise them from birth to get them ajust being around humans then living in the wild life .... The real truth this couple was very lucky the bear didn't harm them like in other cases where a bear who was raised from a cub only two months of age to a full sized grizzly turned against its owners killing them ...... Eating them very graphic were found dead with their insides missing ... I wouldn't keep no wild animal even from just being born ... Even if they paid me money to last me two life's or more ..... Only God can tame a wild beast if He wanted to because They are his wild creature He created .......

Im really torn when it comes to captivity but i think every situation is different and this story was great and for what ever reason it worked but i would like to know if they had him de-clawed because i can't see the bear coin all that wrestling and being on movie sets with natural claws….(if anyone knows id luv to hear feedback)I f u ask me about killer whales & dolphins i don't think its fair and mostly because there completely taken out of there habit and put into fish bowls, i don't know why they keep them in such small pools. Its good for education and the experience but some of these animals must go crazy, it would b like locking someone up in a padded room and makin them do tricks for food and elephants……don't get me started on there captivity and for some reasons i cry like a baby when i see and hear of elephant abuse and what poachers do is unbelievable, its torcherous and punishment should be the same as what they do to those beautiful giants!

@cornellgreen3692
@cornellgreen3692 6 лет назад
These animals are not good for trying to tame because they still have their wild instincts inside them plus all that power and strength. A recipe for fatality indeed. We saw all those headlines about the bears killing their handlers so that should discourage keeping these animals as pets.
@MrsVenusYoung

Those incidents all occurred with pet animals.Andy treated and respected Hercules as a true friend, these bonds are usually for life. .
@tonym994

and at the same time (while I believe he had loving handlers), Herc was denied nurturing by his Mum, learning how to stand up to other animals, and kill fish and game to survive and so forth. maybe his trainer felt he owed it to the poor guy to find him.

@paulhomsy2751
@paulhomsy2751 7 лет назад
Kate, actually the opposite. Had they put him down you'd feel it was very cruel. What they did is their best to rehabilitate him. This is how it's down for animals and humans alike. Time in a pool is low stress and helps rehabilitate at times totally and at others partially. I thought they are a very nice couple who truly loved their bear and treated him very well. Otherwise I am generally against domesticating wild animals.
@gaarcemail
@gaarcemail 6 лет назад
Kate Mason It was not cruel at all, being in the water put less strain on the bears back, because of buoyancy he would be lighter. Making him walk in the water, was therapy, and that's why he was able to walk again.

I had 2, 4 week old Black baby Minks. At puberty one turned into the mink from hell as expected. But the other "Minky" never turned. He stayed totally tame throughout his life of 7 years. Puppy dog tame and playful. One in a hundred might end up like that. So.. it can also happen with other wild animals. We just can never know when. Just like people they have individual personalities.
@MrsVenusYoung
@MrsVenusYoung 5 лет назад
that bear lasted so long, and tried so hard because of the way they treated him,and his loyalty to them was definitely earned. ...more people had that kind of compassion this world would have a chance.
