Just to clearify. Wukong’s final “god” form is literally name “the Buddha who wins every battle” this wasn’t a fight. This is a one sided slaughter.

Spoilers but The fact that Monkey King has Over 9000+ levels of Immortality in a "Death Battle" had me wondering how this would reasonably go & I'm not surprised lmaooo

Sun legit took like six different immortality pills. He first learned immortality from his teacher, he then erased his death from "death note" then he ate some divine peaches and ate food and drank the wine of the gods. Then he legit chugged six bottles of indestructible/ everything pills. Then he ate like five baby fruit or something that makes him immortal again.

This is technically a prequel to Goku vs Superman

Ok, whoever had the idea of doing a myth battle needs a raise, this was such a cool episode and there's so much potential for more matchups like these in the future.

Hercules was strong, but when you have a character based Taoism, Daoism, and Buddhism where stacking immortality is the least craziest or esoteric thing, you're on a whole different level of the divine.

An interesting thing is that the '72 transformations" lets him transform into anything. The number means that he has 72 lives to spare, so even if Hercules was able to penetrate the 1000+ layers of immortality that Wu Kong has, he would still have to kill him 73 times before the dude die. So yeah... Hercules has no chance of winning this one.

Imagine the insane potential that mythology death battle have. Zeus vs Odin, Ares vs Thor. These matchups would be literally the stuff of legends. It’s like a whole new world

As much as I wanted Heracles to win, I knew he couldn’t beat someone as OP as the Monkey King

Not sure if anyone else said this, but the staff isn't just some random, unwanted pillar. It was put there by one of China's great mythological kings that solved the flooding of the Yellow River. Without it, the seas instantly started raging. Honestly, I'm not sure how they fixed it afterwards.

The parody has come full circle to basically become the original Deadliest Warriors.

Fun fact: there are some Buddhist temples that depict Heracles as the guardian of the first Buddha. Meaning this interaction is somewhat plausible.

I love that deadpan reaction of Hercules to Sun's multi-headed form. Herc fought a lot of beasts and people with such features that this ability wouldn't shock him.

According to the story, the scorpion's sting caught Wukong by surprise, and so he was stung by it. The scorpion demon's poison did hurt Wukong and leave him in great pain and suffering, but he couldn't die due to his immortality and indestructibility. He can't die but he was still pretty much incapacitated by the poison. It was those situations where you wished you were dead to end the suffering, but you couldn't due to you being immortal. So his usually useless party members had to go seek help to remove and cure the poison. After curing the poison, Wukong managed to beat the scorpion demon in the end, this time being on guard against the scorpion's stinger and removed it the first chance he got.

Hercules: "Foul beast, you face the God of Strength!" Son Wukong: "Only strength?"

In every other mythology battle, Herc's hydra arrows would have been an instant win But against Wukong, each arrow would only kill one of his many immortalities and even then, there is a huge chance that a clone gets hit instead Herc simply doesn't have enough arrows to win this

Not gonna lie, I'm 99% sure Sun Wukong has this in the bag. I think the only thing Herc has that can really hurt Wukong are his Hydra blood arrows, but I don't recall him having anything that could counter the Monkey King's ridiculously OP Taoist superpowers.

I'm a huge fan of mythology but I never thought this would ever become a reality. It was really ironic because I was watching Journey to the West with my family the other day and this showed up. Not to mention I've read about Greek mythology and Hercules my whole life. The fact that this video was created is truly amazing.

Wukong didn’t even have to use the immobilization spell. Heracles being able to move is already proof that Wukong was just trolling him the entire fight.

Notice how Wukong spent the whole fight laughing or otherwise acting rather comical. Heracles was genuinely trying to win. It was never even a question of who would win, Wukong thought it was more fun than an actual fight lol

Can we all just appreciate the unique setting for the fight? Taking place on the scroll the story is written on, and both combatants being so powerful that they affect the scroll itself. Finally panning out in the final moments of the fight to see their heavenly personifications holding the scroll. Beautiful

Hercules begged for the gods to save him. He was about to die. He became ONE OF the gods instead of their king. Wukong became the buddha himself and even before then nothing in heaven or earth could kill him. He one fought their entire army, all of heaven and one. Wukong held up the weight of the universe with one should and still could carry another.

This fight could be compared to Saitama vs Popeye. If you've read some of the stories in Journey to the West, fighting Sun Wukong is like fighting against a cartoon character. In fact, Wukong would be perfect for a Looney Tunes-esque series.

This was kinda one sided from the beginning considering that wukong is literally immortal so Hercules literally won’t be able to kill him

I like to think that under different circumstances, Herc and Sun would be close friends. Sun could teach Herc how to meditate and have his back in case someone tried to kill him.

A random fact I know is Sun Wukong's staff doesn't change weight even as it changes size. So it's just as heavy when it's the size of a needle as when it's the size of a mountain

Sun Wukong is literally the monkey brain meme. What I mean by that is that Journey to the West is an allegorical tale about humanity, and each character represents a different aspect of the human psyche. Tang is emotion, Pigsy is strength, Sandy is reason, and Monkey... Monkey is kinda all three. He's an allegory for how we react to situations with our monkey brains!

I like how they brushed over Hercules being tricked into putting on a poisonous soaked shirt. He was very much taking after his father at that point and totally brought it upon himself.

Just in case anyone is interested, at the end of _Journey to the West_ , Sun Wukong is elevated in spiritual rank to Buddhahood, being given the title "Buddha Victorious in Strife" or "Victorious Fighting Buddha" ( _Dou zhansheng fo_ , 鬥戰勝佛). But this is the name of a historical deity listed among the 35 Confession Buddhas. Monkey's role as a Buddhist protector likely helped link him to the Buddha as the latter's iconography shows him holding a suit of armor and a sword--symbolic of his fight against the negative emotions that keep man trapped in Samsara. But what's really interesting is that Sun is only rarely worshiped as a Buddha and even more rarely by the above title. Instead, he is generally worshiped in East and Southeast Asian Chinese folk religion under his rebellious title, "Great Sage Equaling Heaven" ( _Qitian dasheng_ , 齊天大聖). Sometimes this is truncated to "Lord Great Sage" ( _Dasheng ye_ , 大聖爺) or "Buddha Patriarch Great Sage" ( _Dasheng fozu_ , 大聖佛祖). He's actually more of a Daoist deity, though, and he is considered the exorcist par excellence, as well as a healer and a godfather to many children. Although Monkey's celestial form at 17:37 doesn't match what he would probably look like at the end of the novel, I think Death Battle made the right call in not portraying him as a Buddha. I'm sure that would have riled up some people. The episode was interesting. I hope it leads many people to read _Journey to the West_ and fall in love with Monkey's adventures like I did oh so long ago.

Wukong never truly had a mortal form, whereas Hercules was literally about to die before he was saved by Olympus. I was rooting for the Monkey King anyway, but he didn't even need that much immortality to seize victory outright

This is possibly one of the most one-sided matchups I've ever seen. Sun Wukong is basically Superman, but arguably better because instead of being almost immortal like Supes, he's actually immortal. And he's immortal in like, 13 different ways. And he's got so many powers to kill Hercules with. This isn't a fight, it's a joke, to Sun Wukong specifically. Edit: Before you comment about how Sun Wukong is more like Goku, I'm aware. I know he's the inspiration for Goku. Superman is basically just the western version of Sun Wukong, because they're both practically immortal (Sun Wukong actually is, as opposed to Supes who dies plenty). Goku isn't exactly known for his immortality lol

Death battle team could remake this video using Black Myth Wukong's Sun Wukong and God of War's Hercules or Kratos.

Being vaguely familiar with Sun Wukongs abilities, and very familiar with Hercules/Heracles' abilities I felt the Monkey King would win 99% of the times he fought him. He's just overly broken to even have a fair fight with nearly anyone who comes across him.

How dies it make sense that he made a wearable trophy out of the lions skin when no weapon can pierce it's skin?

This has become one of my favourite Death Battles. Mythical characters and research only from their myth is a new setting that I honestly can get behind. I’m a fan of mythology so I’m really happy with this one

I think this is one of my most favorite battles of all time: the animation, the artistic creativity, the narration…this is beautiful!

I love battles like this, and it’s one of my favorites, because yeah it’s a one sided stomp but it’s still fun and mostly makes sense, I’m still annoyed with that bow feat for Heracles, but it’s light hearted

I never realized how similar Hercules and Wukong's back stories are. Also, Wukong is borderline toon force. He can pretty much defy all laws of physics and reality.

As a Chinese, I think this animation is a bit ridiculous. Because the strongest defense in Journey to the West is the golden body of Buddha and the body of Sun Wukong. In the whole journey to the West, only the scorpion spirit's hook tail is the most abnormal, and his poison makes Buddha and Sun WuKong pain. No other physical damage can break Sun Wukong's defenses. The only shortcoming of Sun Wukong is that he is afraid of being sealed, like being in prison. In Journey to the West, it is recorded that after Buddha turned his palm into Wuxing Mountain to seal Sun Wukong, he nirvana in Lingshan Mountain, so the Buddha also paid some price in order to seal Sun Wukong, and Sun Wukong can not die

It felt pretty obvious that Sun would win, while each got about 7 minutes, Suns story was definitely longer, and I mean the guy was immortal with more powers than Hercules which was shown in his story.

This is definitely one of the best death battles. Both combatants have a lot of narrative similarities and have relatively conceptually similar levels of strength, and origins in storytelling. It makes for a far more compelling theoretical battle.

Sun Wukong died when he was 300 years old. But before it died, he learned the magic, ate the elixir and the elixir, and the elixir led to his immortality. He went to hell to destroy the records of his birth and death, and he was resurrected though the original body and soul. But he's not real anymore, and he's not a living thing. So the Infinity Stones can't do anything to "things" like him

Re-watching this Death Battle makes me wanna see Zeus vs Odin more. And for them to analyze their original mythology like in this DB.

This has to be the most impressively designed fight DB has had so far. I loved the narrator perspective as the pair's battle unfolded upon a scroll like a grand and legendary tale. Definitely 10/10 for this one on artistic design and animation.

Sounds like Doomsday ultimate opponent. Nothing is immortal. Take away his soul, atomize him, turn him to stone or give him 'ultimate poison' and they die.

This is one of the interesting and creative Death battle in years, the used of pixel animation and classic painting background, the used of music and just the way of how the two warriors using their abilities, but now I know why Death Battle done match better than anyone, they are faithful to the source material and keep the characters stays in characters.

Kind of 1 sided to be honest. How does a demi god who's only real leverage is strength beat a monkey who also has the same level of strength revealed at the end but not only that, he LITERALLY cant die and is way stronger and faster

This is when you realize how absolutely broken mythology is when you actually start to add modern logic like how the heck and arrow could pierce the Sun and how long it would take the arrow to get there within a couple of seconds also how fast was the arrow going it's things like these which are such small details in myths but at the same time such detailed showcase immense amounts of strength and power

Putting Disney's version against the Immortal Monkey King in the fight animation thumbnail has the same level of effectiveness as throwing pebbles at either a hurricane or The Hulk.

Sun Wukong’s Japanese name is Son Goku. Look it up I’m not joking.

Sun Wukong is called the immortal monkey king for a reason. He was sealed within a mountain by the gods and escaped. I think he’s double immortal he ate a peach that gave him immortality when he already is.

Oh this is fantastic. I LOVED this story telling style! The has to be THE BEST death battle simply because of how the story was told! but I also loved Sun Wukong's personality and voice acting. Hercules was good too. The writing for this one was truly something special. I wish I could like it more then once.

I can’t believe I put off watching this one for so long, definitely one of my favourite death battles to date! Great animation, superb research and backstory and a really fun experience overall. 10/10.

If DB puts this fight in their strongest forms (Hercules: god Sun Wukong:Budha) this fight maybe would be interesting. But if their both in thier weakest forms Sun Wukong basically wins.

This is definitely one of my favourite recent death battles. Looking at their original myths written centuries ago was such a great idea. I'm a big mythology fan so it was awesome to see although myths brought back into this versus setting. And the animation was Stella as well I love the ink effects and the fact they were literally fighting on a scroll. Really an excellent episode

I think we can all agree that Sun Wukong got this. I mean unless Hercules has a way to get rid of all of Sun's immortality he'll just run out of fuel

This is the most unfair episode ever. In a series called “death battle” they have Sun Wukong… an immortal being who fought the heavens and COULD NOT DIE vs Hercules a mf who died.

I love how during the whole fight, hercules was trying so incredibly hard, while sun wukong was laughing and joking around, and still beat the shit out of him.
