I’m aware that I accidentally said Paul George instead of Jamychal Green. I fixed it on the screen if you look. But thanks to the 25 people who let me know tho😂
I’m Real Madrid fan. I was lucky to enjoy Luka live for 2-3 years. He was so special... Unfortunately It was obvious that NBA would be his next challenge. We all in Spain and Real Madrid are proud of our wonder boy.
asaraviag I believe he will go back to Real to finish his professional career. He will dominate the NBA for next 10-15 years and then return to win another Euro league title for Real Madrid and perhaps his national team and retire as the greatest bb player ever. He is Leo Messi of basketball. Just better
his 1st Playoff series average 31.0 points, 9.8 rebounds 8.7 assists *Guarded by prime kawhi & PG13 (2x DPOY, 9x all-defensive team combined) * 38 points or more in 3 games * with ankle injury * absence of Kristaps Porzingis * two triple-double, * 38-9-9 in game 6 * only 21 y.o, 2nd nba season
@@rafazizi try not to wear skinny too tight jeans next time kawhi,pg,bullymorris & rest of LAC couldnt clamp him down to humble his stat sheet in significance, despite applying physicality, trashtalk & harsh fouls Top5 Elite defense of LAC worked in desperation to stop him > its actually a form of flattery & respect to the 21yo wonderkid sophomore and im LAC fan and I did watch
His dad was basically never seriously injured and he played 17 years of professional basketball. I dont think Luka will be unless someone deliberately injure him.
@@truthhurts837Where did I say that the NBA was more physical than other leagues? Read this statement again: "he's playing on a bum ankle. I say the kid's tough and can withstand the NBA physicality." Where in that statement did I say that the NBA is more physical than other leagues? Did I say the NBA is more physical than Euroleague, CBA, or FIBA? I said "can withstand the NBA physicality" Did I make the false assumption?
danny rowland Dirk Nowitzki is my fave player of all time so NO, i do not think Euro players are soft. And NO i never thought or assumed Luka can’t play in the NBA, and handle the “physicality” - if anything, he’s proven it- as i mentioned that he’s playing (even dropping triple doubles) on a bum ankle.
Because he is not relying on elite athleticism, Luka will have a very long career. Playing like he plays, I could seem him lasting until he is .....say 45 years old.
@Pluck-E Yeah. His BB IQ will be off the charts. He will be a guru on the court. He will be like a god, performing miracles, that no one can understand.
Good as long as it bring emotions like in tje old days great match ups and competitive relvery ok but to see 1 guy dominats with no team acumplishment is like sean Iverson for years . Waith iverson won MVP . I goid that you have fate but you sound like a clown for that type of prediction 45 years . Ah weit a minute you menth 4 to 5 season i got you .
He’s only 23 and playing like he’s already in his prime. If he isnt in his prime now and there is an extra gear that he can hit, its going to be a scary sight for teams across the league. And the craziest thing about it is that I do believe his game can improve. But i think whats even scarier is that i truly believe that he will be able to sustain this level of production for years to come. Even past his physical prime. His game relies so little on athleticism that it’s not hard to imagine him being a 35 year old veteran still doing crazy numbers as his already elite mechanics, IQ and feel of the game continue to sharpen. Luka to me is truly a one of a kind player. I dont think we’ve ever seen a player dominate with this level of poise and maturity so early on in their career. Usually young superstars have to rely on using their physical strength and explosiveness to make a name for themselves but Luka has essentially created a new blueprint for newcomers.
He has footwork not rushing when driving unlike those athletic, fast players. They're just athletic, long but no footwork that's what separate Jordan, Hakeem and Kobe.
@@iranianintelligenceagency9337 I mean, Hakeem is mentioned there, I'll argue that no one in the NBA have better footwork then Hakeem, I mean his dream shake literally carries the Rockets
Everyone plans and expects screens at the 3-point line. Luka sees, plans and executes a screen in the paint without even his teammate realizing what's going on. 2:36
he never picks up his dribble and if you watch closely his moves are on the down dribble, most players gather when the ball is coming up on the dribble.
I think the term your looking for is cadence. Bruce Lee talked about cadence of movement in martial arts a lot and I've never seen anyone in basketball utilize this quality so masterfully
Great commentary. The script was amazing. How did you learn to analyze the game? Also, as I watched Doncic go through his reads and respond, I got the image of how he and players like him are the equlivalent of football quarterbacks and running backs, floor generals who can finish plays unless the defense gives them a more favorable option.
People think it's all about just blowing by people. I played with a guard in college who changed speeds so well he always had defenders off balance. It's like a great running back in football. who changes speeds to use his blockers. Luca is like a great running back pausing, changing speeds to create space to score.
Well ... doncic is the smartest player I ve seen , since dimitris diamantidis.. In NBA you are used to players that offers a show , that scores many buckets etc But that ain't basketball.. Playing the game and understanding - knowing the game are two different things
I'm surprised nobody in these videos name what's probably Luka's main offensive asset: Footwork. Dude doesn't give any more steps than what's needed for any given move, has an economy of movement than more than compensates for his size and less innate athleticism when compared with other (on paper) much more athletic guys. He's incredible in his fundamentals and that, alongside with his obvious court vision and BBall IQ is where the rest of his offensive game is built upon. None of what's pointed in this video would be possible for him to do if he didn't have the footwork he has.
Luka is strong and knows how to use his strength like Barkley to score in the paint. He has a lightening quick cross-over for a guy his size. He's special. He might be the most hybrid of hybrid players now. It doesn't hurt that he can hit outside shots from anywhere with confidence. He'll be a top 10 or top 5 player of all time if he stays healthy.
The instance of him at 5:10 where he changes speed is good, but he uses that push-cross the instant he knows that kawhii isn't coming from behind to strip him. That's the moment he bursts out the gate, not because of the defender in front.
Something I don’t understand is that if you have to go against someone who doesn’t relax and is Always prepared and playing good defense, how do you prepare. Ik you said at time like 3:30 that you know where you are going and the defender doesn’t so you can use that to be a step ahead but if you aren’t as athletic or explosive, which is pretty much the point I think, shouldn’t the defender be able to catch up.
same being said for chirst paul too. i mean it astounds me that he doesn't appear quick, but can get off many mid rangers and being barely 6' tall. expert timing and change of pace.
It's amazing how much advantage he's getting (in this video) coming off a screen. Baiting is an amazing idea. I call it "magnetizing" a player, so defenders are attracted to him. Once you're a threat the defense gets warped/twisted/destroyed. Good video.
Love it man so tough it’s so important to have some contact finishes like veer and counter it with the euro or long step evasion-type finishes so you can dance around them when they freeze. Ty!
Incredible, peripheral view read and mind/hand coordination. I was really amazed about how he uses pacing effectively very skilled and adaptive. Always wondered how he is the slowest and quickest player on the court.
It's pretty facinating because I'm been looking at the numbers and he's putting up numbers that are super elite. He doesn't (to me) look all that gifter just watching his play, compared to say Jordan which just watching him play you knew he was just different from everyone else. I used to call him cat slick, because his timing was like a cat playing amounds dogs. Luca looks just like one of the dogs, but his results are up there with Jordan, and I would never have though that was possible. Let's see if he can maintain that level for 15 years.
luka trains/prepares in a manner that accounts for help def and making a read based on lead or help defender; alot of guys spend years working in beating the initial defender/lead defender, but their handle/creation/iq/etc doesnt account for help def or traps... so by the time they start adjusting or trying to adjust its too late and it taks 2-5 yrs to consistently improve decision making vision etc
Luca has that Andre Miller skill that kept more athletic and faster players frustrated year after year. It will keep him among the best players for many years.
good video, but i think you forget to mention his ability to shoot the ball, i mean his stepback is not like hardens but pretty good also. as a defender you always have to keep that in mind. makes it even harder to guard him.
He also doesn't telegraph his moves at all.. I mean his ballhandling is seemless so the defender is left guessing until the very last second on what he plans to do.
Luka has the same reading as cp3, luka is taller, bigger and stronger thats why he excels so much, You can say he is one of the top 3 of the best point guard in the league right now
Changing the pace and force the defense to make a decision is key to basketball and i have to learn to use it better cause i relied many years on my speed cause i was the fastest here around in. This is also the key to play till your 40s if you have a decent shot. I only used it for the hesitation dribble like doncic to catch the wrong foot and to go around the helper. But almost never attacking the rim or seldom at picks.
Fantastic analysis of what make Luka great! His fundamentals and brain will probably make him a top 10 player of all time when he's done like Bird. You don't necessarily have to have all the athleticism some of these players have to dominate.
Luka is so dominant because of his skill set and experience playing grown men his whole life. His big body also makes him a huge threat from anywhere on the court
Helps you can't touch a player above the 3 line. I'm also guessing he's extremely strong for his age much like lebron. Look he he runs through contact especially at the rim. It offsets his athleticism and speed. To be that strong so young is amazing
It actually depends on what you call being athletic. Luka isn't as muscular as a Lebron James, as _"explosive"_ as a Russel Westbrook, as fast as a Kyrie Irving... but he's definitely an athlete.
Luka signed contract with one of 3 best teams in Europe. He was awarded with rising star,MVP of Spanish league (a league second only to the NBA),MVP of Europe League,MVP of the Final Four,MVP of the finals,,,,nickname-Wonderboy....and now these things that he is doing at the NBA,,,,he can't be outclassed! He is set to be one of the 5 best players ever in the game of basketball!Only if there are no major injuries.
It’s pretty simple actually. If you leave him open for 3 he makes it so you have to get up close. Being close allows him to fake you out and makes other defenders have to help on defense. When they come w help someone’s wide open and Luka is a willing passer always looking for teammates. He’s a triple threat with the height to get shots off on almost anyone.
Luka Dončić unguardable? Ben Simmons will lock Luka up on 9/10, and this season's playoffs showed how guardable Luka is. IMO people confuse high volume and ball dominance with high performance and high potential. Elgin Baylor attempted the most career field goals per game (23.8). Elgin joined the NBA around the age of 24. Luka (already 23 years old) averages 19.7 SPG. Luka was drafted at 19. Luka is ball dominant (needs to be). Luka is the Mav's primary producer, so his PPG chances are higher for now. Luka will slow down with age, and Luka will slow down when he gets help (teammates). When I think of unguardable (at their position), I think of players like Shaq (hack a Shaq was created because of him). But Luka is too unique (and young) for me to count him out, so I'll keep an open mind.
I noticed in this video alot of players in the league make alot of mistakes on defense . They don't get low when going over screens , bigs stand straight up when he's attacking down hill and alot of the help comes late . Not beating him to the spots he is trying to get ect.
Yeah...you just noticed that in NBA, apart from playoffs, players do not really defend...we do it muuuuch more in Europe, but I guess in the US it is not encouraged since it would limit a lot spectacularity.
Luka is the 2nd best in the NBA, and the more he becomes a point guard, like his buddy Jokic, the better he will get. Sure he can always score 40, but when he starts getting 15 assists/game, he will truly be unstoppable.
