E46 M3 definitely isn't a sub $20k anymore. Buddy of mine sold his 90k mile example for $28k not that long ago. Not sure where people are finding sub-$20k E46s.
I bought my 2020 Civic Sport Sedan 6 months ago new with the 2.0 naturally aspirated port injected motor with manual transmission 🙂 Daily driver duties (already have a fast weekend car)
I'm currently looking for a used R8. 420HP, manual, all the good stuff. prizes in (And here comes the kicker!) EUROPE skyrocketed after this video. I don't know why, but after he dropped that video, a manual R8 with low milage was up to 60,000€ as before it was selling for 35k€ - which was still too much.
Please make sure to say this same stuour comment on every video for the rest of all time, and don't ever actually talk about cars. Give it a break already. How do people like the same stuff every time?
my jaw dropped when i heard that - an impreza owner with a failing power steering pump, broken air conditioning, and a nearly blown head gasket at 104k miles
If you take care of a Subaru they'll go forever. There are multiple people that come to local car meets with 200k+ on stock ej motors. If you mod a car with a bad tune and beat the hell out of it then it's probably not going to last too long.
@@ZLRACING123 200k+ doesn’t need to be an accomplishment though, you have to seriously baby these cars to get there. Even then sometimes they’ll just decide to have major problems at the drop of a hat and before you know it you’ve put a new motor in three times.

If you're buying a 100 series Land Cruiser, try finding a 2003+ model. Those ones had the five speed auto instead of the four speed that was initially used in the 1998-2002 models. Alternatively, just get the Lexus GX470. Those came with the five speed from the first model year (2003). You'll lose the space that the land cruiser has, but you don't lose much more.
when the little graphic for the C6 popped up and doug was edited with white hair, he legitimately matched jay leno. I think we’re actually onto something as far as who dougs real parents are….
I also have a 1993-- I got mine for $8,000 in 2016 (it had 67k miles at the time). the only thing that kind of sucks about it is that I am in a family of three-- so we can't go anywhere all together in it. :( i guess that my wife really doesn't care for riding in it and my daughter loves it, two seats usually works out :)
@@ericrosen6626 That’s awesome man! That’s low miles to you got a good deal.I meant to put mine had 77,000 miles not 72,000 lol. Yeah I know what you mean. My wife don’t really like it at all but I have a daughter as well and she likes it but she’s only 3 lol 😂. She loves to set in it and likes watching the antenna and headlights go up and down lol.
@@ericrosen6626 What color is yours? Do you have any mods done? Mine is Arctic White with red interior and it has ZR1 wheels. It’s in good shape but she needs a little work here and there lol 😂
@@bigty4725 Mine is Arctic White with a red interior too! All original and the only mod (done by a previous owner) is a muffler delete. It has a very slight oil leak and both the cd player and tape deck have issues with their eject mechanism (engine sound is plenty of entertainment and I still have AM/FM to fall back on)... but otherwise, it is pretty nice all-around.
@@JokerisWild4 everywhere in the us. I own a c6 that I bought for $15k prior to covid price shootup. Even now 05-07 c6 are under 20k, 08+ around 25k and grandsports are 30+. If you know how to find cars apart from dealerships you’ll find a shit ton of them
I know a lot of people will hate me for saying this, but you can get a 2017 Ford Focus Electric for around $15,000 here in Canada (less in the states), and it’s by far the funnest car I’ve ever driven. Great handling and all, but its key feature is its instant throttle response. Holy cow. When I drive my mom’s Ford Fusion (far from a performance car, I know), when I put the throttle down it feels like waiting for a steam engine to heat up by comparison. That confidence when you put your foot down is just insane, and although I know people will have differing opinions on this, the lack of a loud engine, for me at least, makes acceleration feel more thrilling.
I got a Mazda3 Grand Touring with the 2.5 it's a fun little grocery getter. It's like a practical miata. The steering and handling is incredible. It's a jack of all trades, a little sporty, a little luxury and practicality.
I feel like doug omitted the ford Taurus sho. It has a twin turbo v6 and is probably one of the ultimate sleepers. You can actually find them for under 20k unlike some of Doug's actual pics.
I had an 06 v1 a couple years ago. I LOVED IT! Only reason I don't still have it is I got rear-ended pretty good and it was totaled. Honestly, the interior wasn't that bad, I liked the seats a lot. The heated seats were the best I've ever used. Like opening a portal to hell under you butt. They were amazing. The radio was a pain though, all the computer info was integrated there so to replace it you lost a lot. However, I spent like $80 and was able to install an AUX input and could connect my phone and that fixed a lot of the "issues". Now I drive a 16 Chevy SS sedan (manual) - so basically the same formula as the V, just with a 6.2 LS3 and TR6060 instead of the CTS-V's 6.0 LS2 and T-56. I really like the SS, but I miss how "analogue" the V was compared to the SS. In certain situations I had to baby the V so it wouldn't try to kill me, but the SS just takes it and is like "are you even trying?" - The added tech takes some of the fun out of it.
For the CTS-V, I’d instead recommend the STS-V, it’s got 69 (nice) more HP, you can get an 09’ model with less miles for a lower price than the CTS-V from 04’. The STS handles better and has more power for cheaper, clear winner IMO. -Cadillac STS owner
I rarely see any under 20k, but it might be because Im in the NY/CT area. I feel like under 20k as well can get a decent C5 or C4 from what I've seen on AutoTempest
I got extremely lucky early this year and scored a 2013 Dodge Charger SRT8 for just under $20,000 with under 75k miles on it. I struggle to find a more fun, practical daily driver for the same price that hasn’t been modified and is relatively reliable.
One car very few people ever consider when looking for a fun car under 20k is a mazdaspeed 3. Plenty of power, practical body style, reliable engine, tons of aftermarket support, and a 2013 model with under 100k miles will only run you in the mid to high teens. for less than 10k, you can get the older first gen with around the same mileage.
I got my 2019 WRX with less than 5k miles in June 2020 for $21,000. Had to search for months and drive a hard bargain, but I'm so glad I got it, it was well worth the effort!
I own a Porsche Boxster, the 981 model, and it was worth below 20k before quarantine and now it’s worth around 40k. They are amazing cars, it’s a mid engine Porsche and the handling is perfect. I do think the 987 looks better as a cayman, but having the car as a convertible makes its 1000X funner especially if you live in a warmer climate. I recommend getting the car in either manual or PDK (duel clutch) definitely avoid a Tiptronic transmission.
tbh in my area I havent seen a used s2000 go for under 20k in a few years. I think that time has already passed. A car I'd like to mention is the genesis coupe. I picked up the 2.0t r spec from a private seller for 4 grand. It had a slight missfire, turned out all it needed was a set of spark plugs. Has served me perfect for over 2 years now. I know it gets a bad rap because the stock power is pretty pathetic. But buying a 500 dollar reflash tune from btr or poweraxel completely transforms the car. full bolt ons you can estimate somewhere around 260whp and 300 torque. Its not a rocketship, but I love it. It still looks good, and the r spec comes with a 6speed manual, lsd, brembos, and 19inch alloys. Its a great platform to get into modding if you can find one for a good price. Aftermarket parts are well priced and plentiful
as someone who grew up in a first gen Jeep Grand Cherokee, and then drove another one as my first car… they’re not reliable lol. My mom’s had random electrical/computer issues after 7/8 years that we couldn’t have fixed and had to sell when it was working properly, and after mine died on me in the middle of a road trip the total cost of repairs was more than that of the vehicle. Both were barely over 100k miles.
I absolutely love my M235i. With some minor mods this car is a beast for what you pay, although still a great car when stock. They’re above $20k but you can find them for under $30k. I bought mine (2016 50k miles) in 2019 and the sticker was a little over $28k. After tax, fees, and a $13k trade in I ended up paying about $17k. The car has been a dream to drive and has given me no problems (other than a couple of flats but that can happen to any car). I have basic bolt ons, stock turbo, and make 400 hp at the wheels (322 stock). If you have the extra budget, you can’t go wrong with this car.
Best value considering, style, sporty performance, reliability, comfort, and depreciation is the 2012-2017 Honda Accord coupe with naturally asperated 3.5 V6, 271 hp, 0-60 in 5.9sec. under $20K.
I bought a Sibring Silver Honda S2000 new in 2002. It still sits in my garage with only 8,000 miles, never driven in the rain, in as good of condition as the day I bought it. California car. As much as I love it now at the age of 54 I’m probably going to sell it one day.....
The Ford st is the best on the list Ford really turned it around then twin turbo truck, independent rear suspension on the mustang and 2 hot hatches that oversteer 🔥
Only THREE s2000’s in all of Australia on largest carsales website. Asking prices are $55k USD and up! Looks like we missed that opportunity down here 😬
When Doug says he doesn’t care about what clothes he wears, it’s as clear as ever in this specific video because no one would willingly wear a 76ers shirt 🏀😷
I recently bought a 2008 Hummer H3 Alpha for 15K and it is a BLAST! V8 power, awesome off road capability and you're driving a tank. Definitely a vehicle worthy of a spot on the cool cars under $20k.
There's a e46 m3 for sale at a dealer near me for $16,500 with 70k miles... Im seriously thinking about it for my first car, but it has an SMG and that's the only thing holding me back
The Acura TL is actually an absolute steal as you could get a third Gen from 5-8k and the 2nd Gens are cool too ranging from 3-7k but they are extremely prone to transmission problems so I wouldn’t recommend it unless you know what ur getting into, but the TL is cool cause it’s a luxury sports car made by Acura and Acura is just luxury Honda so you get the Honda reliability as well
The Toyota 86 is a really nice sports car, pretty easy to find for under 20k too. Considering they’re coming out with a new generation this year it should be nice.
So crazy how affordable cars are in the USA...here in 🇿🇦 if you try to buy any of these used, the cost of maintenance (parts and labor) will beat you down so bad you'll have to service them under a tree!
I personally like the B8 Audi s4 cause you can get the supercharged v6 with a 6-spd for under 15k in good shape and there is good aftermarket stuff for the care and with just stage 2 tune it’s stupid fast gets up and goes with its awd
Can confirm on the Fiesta ST. Plenty quick, especially considering how small it is. Fantastic on fuel. Incredibly practical. Handles unlike any North American front wheel drive hot hatch ever offered. And very reliable. And nowhere near $20000.... Unless you're up here in Canada 😄 (even then you can get one in the low to mid teens)
Obviously a lot more vehicles for under 20k Id recommend a 4th gen v8 4runner with the limited package or any 3rd or 4th gen for that matter you can drive it forever and get one under 20k easy along with a Lexus LS 430 or 460 amazing luxury and reliability for the money and for a sports car you can pull a early 2010s 5.0 mustang for cheep and for the money it’s a pretty good bargain for performance
