How about the snow over Christmas in 1981? As a 15 year old , it was absolute heaven. The evenings were the best, no cars, very few people, just us kids, and a pet dog or 2 wandering around, lobbing the odd snowball. Amazing times.

I absolutely love it. 57 years old, and had the happiest childhood ever growing up in Cardiff. Home from School, straight out to play, back home for a rushed tea, preferably crispy pancakes, then back out till it got too dark to play football. Dont mention Summer holidays. I was never home, just out playing.❤❤.

58 yr old Lancashire lad here...played outside from early morning until the street lights came on in the evening. We did not need parents calling us home at night because we knew when those street lights spluttered into an orange glow it was time to head home for some toast and maybe a chocolate biscuit or two before watching an episode of "Are you being served" and then collapsing into bed utterly exhausted. Happy days sadly long gone.

@@rickogden204 59 year old Londoner here. Yeah we played outside all the time too. Fun memories of applying to and going to Frank's Park Play Scheme every summer holiday with movie shows, pretend Olympic games and inflatables that were so big I couldn't climb on top of them as a nine year old. Mum was working hard and so was Dad but he would do the cooking and would cook me tea, preferably beans and savoury rissoles. As a gay lad I hated "Are You Being Served?" I was more into Survivors or Blake's Seven. I miss those savoury rissoles sooo much. Birds Eye? Findus? Lost in time 😉

Londoner - Croydon to be exact, although literally on the border with Kent (Bromley) so there was a lot of green everywhere. Even though I seem to have an allergic reaction to designs of the 70s, I share the warm childhood memories. Like everyone else here, played outside A LOT. Also played inside with Lego and random "Children discover science" kits. Even when I got the ZX81, I still played outside, riding bikes or rollerskating with friends. Didn't have to worry about weird men doing weird things. Or getting stabbed or mugged. My class at school was populated by children of all races and colors and everyone got on fine (as far as I know). Not saying everyone's experience was like this, but that's how it was for me. Faves of the time were Monkey, Blake's Seven, Sapphire and Steel, Trumpton, Bagpuss, Clangers, Ivor the Engine. Christmas was a magical time. That really sticks out. Not because of the gifts, but because of the atmosphere around that time. Dark cold nights, special things on TV, food in abundance and some which we only had at that time. I miss those Christmases - I think the last special one I had would have been 93 or 94 and only because I was working Panto at the Churchill!!
@hopebgood

@@misteral1083 Christmas was a special time for me too. My nan and grandad were piss poor and lived in a tiny terraced house in Plumstead, SE London. My mum's younger brother Peter went on to become a bit of a high flyer in the business world and so when his family moved back to the UK when I was about 7 or 8 the whole closer members of the family used to go to his massive house in Guildford for four days over the Christmas period. There'd be about twenty of us. It was just so much fun. For some reason my fave memory of those years is my Uncle Peter's mother-in-law Vera sitting in a stiff backed chair swigging sherry, smoking like a trooper and laughing with a very distinct honking noise! 😀

I know the name of Belle and Sebastian but cannot remember what it was about! But that name has brought back memories of another kids show about white horses with the title song going something like “On white horses, snowy white horses, let me ride away’ ? Does anyone remember what that was called?

@@rivermoon6190 think it was what you say it was called. “White horses”, I also remember that and the Flashing blade on a Saturday morning in black and white.

OMG!! I remember this! Very vaguely as i was probably about 4 when I saw it but the whole feel of it just came flooding back. Ok - so I have VERY vague memories of a bunch of kids on a show and in one episode the smart one built a robot or something like that. Maybe I dreamt it years ago but I could swear it was this!

"Steven Gibson'" I always noticed that a majority( if not all) TV shows , especially kid's programming back then, were somehow a rehash of each other. "The Blue Aardvark" was a rehash of The Pink Panther (cartoon show). There was a show which featured a group of kids called "The Red Hand Gang" which seemed to me to copy from The Double Deckers, even though The Red Hand Gang was not as comical as the Double Deckers. In "The Banana Splits" there was a segment called "Danger Island" which was about a group of boaters (mostly young people) who get lost and have to survive on an island. A few years later there was a kid's TV show with something of the same premise, called " Land of The Lost." Then there was ""Ärc 2" and "Space Academy" which were very much like each other.

Memories of my elementary school days are vivid. I remember fixing my gaze and channel at the time of the airing because of the story unfolding in harmony with each character's strong personalities. If I didn't watch the drama, I felt depressed all day the next day, and I couldn't participate in conversations with my friends, so I remember watching a rerun.
