The twingo just is my favourite little car ever. If I one day find a gen1 in good condition for not much moolah I think I'm gonna buy it. My grandma and then my mom used to own one before mom had to sell it cause it was busted up, and I really regret never getting to drive it. It's an absolute peach of a car, so small, frugal and just incredibly cute while being insanely spacious. I love these little nuggets.

I have two of my own. I made the happy mistake of buying a busted 1995 Twingo in 2015, thinking it would be easy to fix that. Oh, what a mistake. It's been 7 years since and still fixing stuff on it Then I got sick of having a car visiting the auto repair shop so much, so I decided in 2020 to buy a better one. I bought a 2002 Initiale Paris. I travelled a lot with this car so far. But the maintenance of old car (even in good conditions) stress me sometimes. Yep, I share your pain my Twingo friend. Be strong. Cheers from Brazil!

Is car fuckery on this level unique to the Balkans? This is 100% relatable. It seems like whenever you touch something on a car, you spend 4 hours doing it because part xy is impossible to remove or you discover the previous owner was a cheapskate and spend the 4 hours fixing painted over rust.

To make ball joint replacement easier, someone suggested a pickle fork, no get a ball joint remover that looks like a small clamp, screw part pushes up on the stud and solid clamp side slides between control arm and knuckle, tighten the screw pushing up on the ball joint stud and......BANG! Pop goes the ball joint, out of the knuckle, much easier and a bit exciting when it lets go, just keep away from the flying control arm when it does pop out!

Pro-tip : usually when these ball joints don't want to come out it's either because of rust, or because they are at a weird angle when suspended in the air, for the latter, pushing on the botton of the brake disk usually helps to get them out (that gets them more straight if that makes sense), same procedure to put them back in once you've finished.

I drive my mum's car that is a Blue base Twingo from 2007 (it has no electrical door mirrors, it has no engine cover, it has no central lock, the inside is very rattly and shaky) and I really love her. For me the most serious problem is the fact that sometimes when you try to start it it goes very low on rpm and sometimes you even have to crank it a bit more. I really hope that this car survives my brother's license taking (he's still 17) so I can claim possession of it after I take my degree and go live by myself. I really hope I can convince my parents to do some maintenance jobs on it (coolant and brake fluid was never flushed out in 15 years, drum brakes need to be checked, valve clearance needs to be checked after 15 years, head gasket needs to be checked because it loses a tiny bit of oil vapour, car has also an electrical mass problem because when i activate the two door window switches all lights dimmer a bit and even while I press brakes) but right now I guess the car is working fine as a mum's car? It is very fun to drive, even when you drive it a bit more hard. Anyway, your Twingo videos are very nice and also the background songs really remind me of my childhood (I played through Pearl and Platinum when I was 8/10 years old), so thank you very much!

poping balljoint are quite easy when you use balljoint tool (forks) and also apply upward force on the brake rotor. If you would have put a jack under the brake rotor and jacked up the rotor until there is upward force on it, when you would have smashed the lower control arm with the hammer the brake rotor/knuckle would have pop off from the ball joint easily, if the suspension still attached to the control arm, the suspension apply downward force on the control arm.

When I need to replace ball joints and they won’t come lose, I usually heat them op a lot or get a big hammer and instead of hitting the ball joint part I hit the parts where it goes into which some how works a lot better ( or get a tiny prying bar and hit it in between the part where the ball joint goes in)
