Hi everyone. Did you know this song originated in former Czechoslovakia (now the Czech republic) in 1927? Composed by Jaromír Vejvoda it became swiftly an international hit. During WWII soldiers of various nations sang this song to cheer their minds, both Germans or allies. Because it is just a song of heart.
My grandfather, Capt. Paul W. Cole (Ret USAF), joined the navy in 1948, right out of high school. I made a CD for him recently and put this song on there. He loves this song! :^)
No tricks in those days, the Andrews sisters were highly talented, they could sing in perfect harmony, absolutely fabulous trio!everyone tried to copy them but failed miserably! their songs will always be remembered, superb!loved them.
My favorite uncle was in the Navy during WWII...my husband was a Sailor on a destroyer during Vietnam. I love a man in dress whites!!! the blues are pretty nice too.
Love the Andrews Sisters, and gramps had every recording. I got Patty to do Forties Flashbacks in the early 1970s at my station KPOL, Los Angeles. Mike, seaman, and son Marc Commander, USN
This song is great! I love their fun, jolly sound, and fabulous blend they had as sisters. I have two sisters and we also sing and play music together, so much fun.
I remember when three girls in my chorus sang this song as part of our USO show in 2007! One of the girls that was supposed to sing with them, but then something happened that made her get replaced by our choir teacher! Lol
Extremely talented and I believe their great popularity was that they were not gorgeous like the Boswell Sister's but had thatvcharm as the girls next door that the servicemen during WW 2 could relate to.
@@Shelton1967 Thanks! Yes Buck Privates is my favorite movie ever, probably because of the Andrews Sisters! I love this video-I'm pretty partial to the Navy- but could you put lyrics with it? I got hung up a few times.
@@upthedownescalator630 Here are the lyrics ;) In the navy In the navy Every navy mans the right guy Everyone gives him the bright eye And the navy they do right by To a sailor To a sailor All the world is just his main street When you're in the navy You're in the worlds best fleet First you take your training as a boot Swing a hammock navigate & shoot Shove off in ships & subs & planes The seven seas are open lanes When the foe is down with Davy Jones Folks will welcome home their rolling stones For every navy mans a king And you'll hear everybody sing Here comes the navy Break out the red, white & blue Here comes the navy Fighting & sea going crew Make way for navy Navy with anchors aweigh Everybody loves the navy of the USA First you take your training as a boot Swing a hammock & navigate & shoot Shove off in ships & in subs & in planes The seven seas are open lane s Here it comes, here it comes, here comes the navy Sing a song of good cheer because the navy is here Everybody loves the navy of the U.S.A.
@@Shelton1967 l love all three of those films, since childhood. Hold that Ghost had the great comedic character actress, Joan Davis, in it. And, Shemp Howard, of the 3 Stooges fame, was in Buck Privates. Ah, and the glorious Andrews Sisters! I'm a huge fan of the gals and Abbott and Costello. And, as an ex Navy man myself, In the Navy is especially resonant. And, like the other films, it's hilarious! 😎👍
