You get news articles, they have standards, not us RU-vidrs. Here is some good old fashioned speculation, with some coincidental timing to back it up. Full disclosure I have Johns number, but didn't bother calling and asking what happened, his time is better spent in development rather than focused on breaking facts in my RU-vid video.

You can listen to Martin Brundle telling his story of testing the jaguar xj220 at Nardo to achieve 220 miles per hour. When he came to a stop he had did it but the single metal hood latch had been put under so much force that the metal had stretched. In his own words, that latch was probably the only thing keeping me from losing all aero and taking off from the embankment and going into the Adriatic Sea.

After several 200+ mph runs in my SL65 I found that simply easing off the throttle and gradually increasing the brake pressure slows you down to a flawless stop. It takes no skill accelerating to 200+ if you have a car capable, but slowing down is a different beast.
@Onewheelordeal
@Onewheelordeal 2 месяца назад
Yea that easing off the throttle and easing onto the brakes is tricky
@captain_context9991
@captain_context9991 2 месяца назад
This is why a Koenigsegg has the Triplex suspension in the back. To keep that squat and lift 100% under control. To aid acceleration and braking. Point being. If a car can do 250++, then it should also be designed to be at that speed and still work. However I have no idea what caused this crash. The Hennessey F5 is not some local tuneshop job out of Texas... The car was designed and engineered in England by a professional race car company. Done by experts. So is it a good car? Who knows... They wont let any real car journalist critique it.

There’s a huge amount of speed shaved off when the car leaves the ground because of the parachute effect of the belly up directly into the wind and there’s also a good amount of braking when a body panel hits the ground.. you’ve got the weight of the car pushing down into the body surface generating tons of friction.. the explanation seems completely plausible to me
@eric4946
@eric4946 2 месяца назад
At 250mph if you have 1-1.3 g of decel from your brakes it’s around 1700-2200 HP your brakes start to apply to slowing down the car. Pretty easy to see how it can go south .

@redtesta
@redtesta 2 месяца назад
Sorry , Hennessy has done some great cars over the years but he is punching way to high. I say that because the first venom was based on Lotus Elise and Exige, hacked together and honestly , its nice but not even close to on par or engineering of a koenigsegg or bugatti. If anyone has watched Christian V. K. walk through on how the Koenigsegg is built, the proprietary parts , patents and all they have done , the perfection , the tolerances and built from scratch, same as the bugatti and the money behind it, youll know that the venom has just had more and more HP pushed on it but it isnt even close to being as stable or secure as the other two. Hennessy is trying to punch way to many levels higher than he can do. Did they change the track at COTA? The top time for production cars was around 1:32 and the F5 was like 2:10. Something is up. Whats going on?

I'm a complete conservative democratic capitaliist but that these companies can build enough of these cars to call them production cars is obscene. People. If we want America to remain in one piece (the rest of the world too) we have to reduce the income inequality in our population. We have guys who can spend millions on a toy car and their employees who can't feed their children. My small town airport has in 30 years gone from having maybe one jet on the ramp on weekends to sometimes having 50 with maybe 50 more coming and leaving during the day. This is putting significant pressure on our society. This can't last. Hang on.
@Tumid1
@Tumid1 2 месяца назад
You may think you're a capitalist but you sound like a socialist. We have had far greater income inequality in our history & today more people live better than anytime in the past. If you only have the skills to have a job that pays $10/hr., maybe you don't DESERVE to have children. Where do you think the millions spent on cars & airplanes goes.....to the people at your small town airports paying for parking, the people that build/maintain the plans & cars, the suppliers that make the parts to build them, the truck drivers that transport the parts...& on & on. What pressure on society....the money rich people spend?...bring it on. There used to be a place where everyone got paid the same..doctors, ditch diggers, airline pilots..everyone. They called it the USSR. The shelves were bare & no one had any incentive to work. How'd that work out?

Hennessey still "builds" cars out of wooden crates that have MADE IN ENGLAND written on the side of them. He still sells cars with no legal VIN / Chssis numbers, no airbags, no legalisation, and if you are weird enough to buy one, you get no paperwork. So please dont get these confused with production cars. SSC Tuatara, same deal. Except that one is built in Italy by a LeMans racing compmany. Also Hennessey, SSC, these guys are not gonna go and have special tyres, wheels, brakes, suspension made. They are gonna use whatever fits their budget and hope it holds.

While they didn't get tyres specially designed for the car, the car itself was designed with technical partnership with Michelin meaning that they didn't just randomly slap on a set of tyres that were available in the market. In fact, Koenigsegg too uses "standard" tyres unlike the specially developed ones that Bugatti uses. I also understand that both Hennessey n SSC both have their fair share of controversy n questionable practices, I feel that with the development of the F5, they've kinda tried to redeem themselves. In fact, Pagani n Koenigsegg have previously forbidden owners from pitting their cars against others. Both have reached out to owners "warning" them that they will be blacklisted if they do so. Source: The original _Hyper 5_ video that was done by Salomondrin. He'd included communication that his friend received from the Koenigsegg team forbidding them from using the Agera in that video n indirectly hinting that it could affect his chances at being allotted future special edition models. I remember that Alejandro also caught some flack from Horacio himself for saying that the buttons/switches in his Huayra were quite flimsy n broke barely a year into ownership n he had to replace 3 of them at a cost of $1000 per switch.

The F5 mule tried out its antilag to impress the big crowds, and in doing so blew one of its own turbos. I think everyone thought it was going to catch fire. In the top gear review, the F5 mule stalled on them repeatedly trying to pull away from a standstill. I have a huge amount of respect for any American company that wants to compete in this space, but it is clear the Hennessey is a crude imitation of the others. I find it offensive and blatantly dangerous they want to sell such a poorly designed, overpriced product to customers. But hey, I guess there's always a market for it.

"Almost completely beyond the capability of being measured." So.... not immeasurable in other words? It's immeasurable or it's not. There is no almost lol. This obviously begs the question of how fast does it even make sense to attempt to try to go on pavement in conventional road-going cars. Flipping over twice at that speed scrubs off a lot of speed. Then it hit the ground, breaks apart and slides. Could be 100yrds or could be more. That doesn't matter. The first hand account does.

The Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut has a pair of stabilization fins(that also help reduce drag) so I think fins similar to that or wings that provide a similar effect could help a lot in other designs.

The car with the chute that flips 9:37 it should have been running a dual chute setup not single. Its speed was probably somewhere close to 200. Singles will create unstable rears.

I like John Hennessey - sticking big, powerful engines in small, light cars is a great recipe. Unfortunately once you get to a certain point it requires more than just adding bigger engines, bigger turbos and bigger brakes. The reason Bugattis and Koenigseggs cost so much more is because they are properly engineered and developed to be able to behave as they should with consistency and usability. Not knocking Hennessey but he's still at the level of having engines that aren't thermally stable (which doesn't really matter because you can't keep them flat out long enough to cook them in most places on Earth), aerodynamics which are ultra basic, chassis design from the ark and electronics which are about as advanced as a ZX spectrum. None of that is really a large problem until you want it to be able to get through the air at very high speed and also be stable. Thats where you need engineering at a level they just don't have access to. The interview with Hennessey, Murray, Rimac and Koenigsegg was insightful. Two of them were obviously engineers while the other two were more like enthusiastic amateurs.

Koeningsegg is crash tested and streat legal all over the world. same with Rimac and Bugatti. Hennessey is not Crashtested and streat legal all over the world. Only this part takes an insane amount of money and time. I think Rimac did 45 crashes and 9 cars totaly destroyed. I agree with all the things you wrote.
@siraff4461
@siraff4461 2 месяца назад
@@KristoferOlsson I like them all but they have gone different ways about making the cars. Rimac did some great design work then got a team of people in who knew what they were doing in each area to finish it off properly. Koenigsegg and Murray could engineer the entire thing on their own if they feel the need and only really give their teams work when it suits them. Hennessey hasn't really got a huge engineering skill set or a very high level team to fall back on so as much as I like the ideas he has, he's making things which are really prototype or kit cars and trying to sell them as production cars. As you say they aren't road legal the world over and if that was because of something like emissions it wouldn't really matter from a performance perspective but when its because the stability systems and crash structure haven't been tested properly thats a whole different thing. To do 250mph properly requires a really deep understanding of physics, engineering, flow dynamics and all the rest. A day in a wind tunnel with some sticky tape doesn't really cut it.

Hennessey is just a want to be of Koenigsegg and Murray's talents. He sells production cars with off the shelf performance parts at premium (×4)!!! I just don't get what people see is so great about Hennessey and the parts installers that are so glorified these days. He has been known to be very shady in the past and still to this day.... Apparently. I was born and raised in Texas to which I still reside, and I just don't care for the guy or the basic sugar coated company they are.

Why don't they use hydraulics on front to lift car under heavy braking? It would keep car level or more level at least right? Maybe not, idk, just making a suggestion.

it'll take more road to break than to go past 200+ Going fast is the easiest, reaching and stopping safely is a different story. Everything on the car matters including aero, wind speed and where its coming from which i believe plays a big role.

As an engineer that occasionally runs CFD I’d guess that rather than braking, I’d have to imagine this happened as a result of some sort of aero issue on the front. Either not enough, a failure or a bump that pushed the front up and got air under it and flipped it up into the air.
