Wonderful car, and the color is so complimentary. Nice to see a real honest presentation, rather than a complete falsehood Porsche channel I could mention!!
@@AutoAmateur You a nice guy. 👏...but at other end of scale, see old YT video { BMW E39 5 Series Airbag Light Reset } .......But you know about already i think!! lol
Congrats…. Definitely a beauty. Have a 991.2 base as well. Everything you’ve said in this video rings true to my heart. Did quite a bit bit of research on ECU tunes….Cobb, APR, etc Went also with softronic and it is absolutely beast. Also done the calipers in red inspired by your 991.1 video. Although less circumspect about infringing on the S red. Enjoy!
Great videos James, I just picked up a base 2018 991.2 as well with PSE and 7 speed manual. I'm super excited...considering a tune however not sure which Cobb, APR, VividRacing, or Softronics? Why did you choose Softronics over other brands and realistic torque/hp gains? Any feedback would be appreciated. Keep the amazing videos coming. Thank you.
The car is perfect! Stage 1 sounds good but that's about where I would keep it. Keep this an all-around great daily.... that means no boy-racer lowering! I know that is sacrosanct to a lot of fanboys, but it's low enough as it is for our real world crappy roads and driveway aprons! And it's not like it doesn't handle the way it is, right? Don't ruin what's good about it! And the Graphite blue is gorgeous... finally someone with that as it was only a one or two-year deal, and didn't make it to the 992. It wasn't everyone's cup of tea, but I think great that it changes with the lighting from gray when it's cloudy or overcast to blue(-er) when it's sunny. Not many of them out there so it's nice to be unique. I enjoyed your videos on the 996 project, but was never sold on the candy apple blue...... nice enough paint job but seemed "aftermarket garage-project blue" like someone might paint their 70s Camaro--sorry--and not seem expensive looking enough for the car, not like a factory color... this does (because it is!). And so much more interesting than your gray car. I actually like the yellow touches, including the brakes, and I'm not a yellow person. Congratulations!
Hi, love the car. I want to go for the same colour but all the blogs I read , it says it’s more grey than blue which I don’t want. What is your opinion please?
GREAT question. It's like someone poured a liter of blue paint into a 5-liter bucket of grey paint, not 50/50 and not the other way around. I think most people would refer to it as a grey car, but they immediately question what they're seeing and blue would spring into mind right away. Does that make sense? It's like thinking Tom from the Tom and Gerry cartoon... was he a grey cat or a blue cat? Pale blue when I think about it, but on the grey side. Haha. Sorry...
This is a terrific Porsche, James. Hopefully I can join in one of your epic adventures. What are your thoughts on the performance upgrades hurting the 991’s long-term reliability?
Thanks mate!! I’m not worried about a stage 1 tune hurting the car. The engine in my car is the same that’s in the S and the GTS. It’s designed to take a lot more power than even the tune opens up.
@@dougrennie9538 LMAO...... That's 12 channel Al, alias the odo man, alias bavariandominator and alias many others!!!! Type in "bavariandominator" on any of the top search engines, and you'll gain much insight into that dude!!!!
"Here, here" and a big thank you ian for your very own video "Whitby 2009" The additional information on it is certainly a real eye opener!!! Many thanks.👍
Nice. I made the jump this past February from the 991.1 C4S after 140,000 miles to 991.2 C4S and I was totally blown away. The power delivery is just amazing.
I have a 991.2 Carrera T, which shares the same engine as the base Carrera, and felt it was lacking in the power department. An APR stage 1 tune fixed that issue, but now I feel the need for more lol. Considering the stage 3 GTS turbo upgrade.
YEAH!! Check out Flat 6 Motorsports in the Orlando FL area. They have several different tuning options for the 991.2 which goes to as much as a Stage 4 producing more than 700+ bhp. Insane but awesome!!
Nice Pick Up... CONGRATS!!! I've been considering jumping into a .2 4GTS myself, currently in a .1 4S. My concern is the known "water pump" issue in the .2's as well as some turbo failure issues I've been "hearing" about. Did you have any concerns with jumping into a .2? Also, giving up the 3.8L NA Engine Sound will be a Hard Loss. If you do end up lowering consider changing the rears to 21's, you'll retain some of the symmetry. Anyway, Enjoy your New Mistress!!!
Cheers!! I’m not worried about these .2 engines. They’re largely bullet proof and the reliability statistics are very encouraging if you dig around. I do miss the NA exhaust sound to be fair. The PSE on this .2 sounds great but it’s not the same thrill.
Great Video with your Mods, congrats. I have a question, though. I'm on the opposite direction. My SCC came in with the yellow face, and I do not like it. I want to turn it into a black face! How was your experience swapping the black into a yellow on your unit? Any tips appreciated. Thanks.
If you would like to have the factory black face I removed from my cluster, you're very welcome to it! The job is pretty straight forward. I have a DIY video of the job that shows you how to do it step by step. I would also be happy discussing it with you live if that helps too.
hi...great work! I wanted some info please: I wanted to install the ducktail (the large one) of the 991.1 aerokit on my 991.2 carrera S... do you know if the spoiler support is the same? I think so...thank you very much
The deck lid dimensions and fixings should be the same between the 991.1 and 991.2. It's the rear lights and bumper itself that differ and aren't interchangeable.
How did you get the Softronic tune for only $1,200.00? Did that price include the handheld loader device? I already have the Soul high flow cats and a Fabtech X-pipe muffler-delete. An ECU tune is my last performance mod.
Great to see you back james. Congrats on the new 911. Lovely car! I hear you with life and kids! I have 3 under the age of 6. Hope there are many more videos to come!
I am! I have a Softronic tune but they are incredibly difficult to work with and it is taking a frustrating amount of time to get the correct tune file back from them.
I am so excited as I just got a 991.2 carrera and am wanting to do some of these mods you are speaking about. So far, I have upgraded to the sport front spoiler (Love the look). The softronic ECU flash is on my list. So much horsepower and torque for the buck. Can't wait to see you do this and a lot more. I have seen some on Rennlist adding adding Porsche side skirts from the 991.1 RS or GTS. Look at that option as well, please!
I have the same car with a chalk + blue interior it always gets compliments for “the color.” I agree, there’s no turbo lag. Put your foot in it and you’ll be at 120 in no time.
Congrats James! Love the color and the mods thus far. Great to see you back in a 991. Looking forward to hearing about your experience with the stage 1 tune.
No no no don't do springs. I have KW coilovers and they are fantastic.I'll never do springs again. Don't jury rig Bluey Twoy James! Ben following you for years, glad you bought this car super pumped for you 👊
James, congrats on the .2-- It is awesome, you will love it. You have have inspired my maintenance and mods on my 997 C2 CAB and my 991.2 C2 CAB. Keep up the great work. Just did the front Pads and Rotors last weekend….they are red because of you!!! Considering an ECU tune as well….
Great looking car imo the best looking generation ever, I am puzzled between 991.1 vs 991.2 lookswise i prefer newer but those 3.8l engines in carrera s previous gen are to die for
I just love how it looks on the dash. Even when I had the original part from the factory in other 911s I’ve owned I don’t think I ever used it. I just love how it looks. Haha.
My first Porsche was a 2014 981 Boxster. I then moved up to a 991.2 but wasn't fond of the turbo's feel and sound, so I switched back to the 991.1, which has a similar feel to the 981 but just better. I do miss the firmer chassis of the 991.2, though. After driving the 992 a few times and appreciating its even better chassis, I still prefer the sound and throttle response of the 991.1.
Congrats James! Awesome looking car! I still need to install my JoyAuto, so I'll have to watch that video for a forth time now. When I first saw your 991.2 I was thinking to myself...now there's a Sharkey P car for ya! The color looks more like a shark's color, and with your mods, it'll be as dangerous as a Shark Too! Congrats!
That is so cool! Congratulations James. Is been fun seen you grow from your first 996 to this 991.2. I never owned a 911 but for years has been on my radar. I am getting close but hard to decide. I have a budget of $120K. I love the targa 991 and I feel with my budget I could get one with under 40K miles. But I really love the look of the 992.. I think the 991 Targa long term be a better investment. Any advice?
Lowering springs ruin the ride quality. You will not like the harsh ride quality of lowering springs on stock dampers. Even worse ride quality if the front struts are old and worn out. If you want to “lower” the car the best is a true coilover kit with tuned springs and damping rates. Online, KW, etc.
Came to your channel after listening to Curb and Canyon. Love the new car you now have. (BTW after watching a couple of your videos, the landscape began to look very familiar. I spent some time in that area having a home off of Dodd Blvd. Cheers from Dallas TX.)
No way!! Haha. That's so funny. A few people have figured out where I shoot those drone shots. It's my secluded little spot, especially on colder days. :)
Between this and the Cayenne, I’m now subscribed! When is the next Cayenne update? I’m torn between getting a newer 9Y0 and one like yours. Getting one like yours means more budget for a fun car.
Glad to see a new video and the car looks amazing. Looking forward to the mods. Please make sure you film the very first reaction of you driving with the tune. Those are the best, but guys usually ruin them by only showing the video when they’ve been driving it for a bit, and it’s just not the same. Congrats!!!
Congratulations on your new 991.2. I have been watching your video for many years. I have a graphite blue 991.2 cabriolet. I am looking forward to all your DIY projects.
Beautiful car, I've got a close sibling, 2017 graphite blue base. I love the Softronic tune that I did earlier this year. Now I really need to get up to Tail of the Dragon if you guys do another road trip.
Nicely edited. And I appreciate your purposeful sound recording of the engine, instead of just letting the sound lay there like most RU-vid videos. Sound is SO important!
Congrats on the new .2, I will be watching this series! I have had my .2 carrera 7 spd for 3 years now and I have done the apr stg 1, soul sport cats and x pipe(no pse) and the dsc pasm upgrade
