Been going through the eshops list of games with demos available to see what could be interesting or if they've featured here previously eg Commandos 3, Paleo Pines, Terraformers and Murder on the Orient Express. However Hollow Knight has been released as a full game trial on Nintendo online, so I have a week to play it for the first time so that will be my focus. Mark, do you have any tips for a first time Hollow Knight player?
It's an oldie now but one game I really loved and played through to completion was Vostok, Inc. Half of it's a bit of a compulsive cookie clicker thing, what you'd call a loading game, but the other half is a shoot-em-up which is how you get your resources to build on the planets and make big number bigger. I had a lot of fun with it when I couldn't be arsed playing anything too thinky.
When the Portal games came out on Switch I spent about a month playing NOTHING else! It got borderline obsessive... I would walk into buildings (in real life) and think... "If I put a portal THERE and another one HERE..."
Oh what the heck, it's on sale on PC at the moment and I picked it up for roughly ~3,50$ 😂 For backlog of course because I have no idea when I'll play it.
There's rumours of a remaster of the Dragon Age Trilogy being announced at the Summer Game Fest in preparation for Dragon Age: The Veilguard. Imagine how incredible it would be if that remaster came to the Switch, what a way to see off this Switch or launch the next. Dear me, one can dream 😊
Even just ports to increase funding for The Veilguard would be awesome. I'd buy digitally and physically immediately. Its a series I have purchased across multiple platforms.
Land beneath us looks cool. Sounds more like an actual traditional Roguelike from the 80's through early 2000's when they were all turn based and had tons of strategy to get good at them and managing your inventory. Nethack and the original Rogue are still some of my favorite games.
Star Wars Hunters reminds me of Battleborn and Team Fortress. PSA be careful pressing A through menus, its predominantly used as "continue" but there is a pop up from the shop that has A to purchase so be careful and read before pressing.
Regarding F2P games: I think it depends on what you’re playing. I have never played gacha games or F2P because I knew I’d hit a wall at some point, usually sooner than later. However, I started Honkai Star Rail which is gacha and it has one of the best stories I’ve played in a long time. Tons of content and super interesting characters. They don’t ask for money all the time either. Of course if you want better characters for later game you may spend a lot to try to get them. Since I play every day I figure I could invest as much over time as I would if I was playing a $60 game. For the amount of hours I play I figure I’m getting my moneys worth. A movie would cost me $15 for 1.5 hours of entertainment. A Starbucks would cost me $7 a drink. So if I’m enjoying my entertainment it’s worth some money. If I can’t progress at some point, I had fun up until then. And contrary to Mark and Glen, my time is not valuable. If I waste a bunch of time it’s fine because I’m retired and it doesn’t matter. I guess it’s a matter of perspective!
The Land Beneath Us is amazing. I have 100+ hours in it already. Is very much like Crown Trick. Great story. Solid writing. Really good gameplay and the devs are definitely taking feedback and making updates. The Land Beneath Us is definitely a surprise this year.
The Land Beneath Us looks amazingly fun, and yeah, I’ve never heard of it either. Thanks for shining some light on it, gentlemen, I’ll have to add it to my wishlist 😁
I've been playing Those Who Remain and Chants of Sennaar. The latter has really been fun, trying to decipher the languages of the many people who live in the tower.
Is there any chance for a full review for The Land Beneath Us? It's only got one review for Switch on Metacritc. It just got overlooked by everyone. Probably in my top 3 games that have come out this year. Also I have been playing NecroBouncer another roguelike. I have a huge recent backlog besides the overall backlog. The game I should start next is Gunbrella.
I agree with you on the Star Wars Hunters thing. It's also mildly infuriating having the game trying to trick you after each match, by having you "Click (A) to proceed" 4-5 times, then sneaking in a "Click (A) to spend money in our shop". It's very aggressive with the ads, and i wish they chilled out a bit, because otherwise the game is fun for what it is.
The Life is Strange games are so good. I've replayed some of the earlier entries a few times as later games came out, and was really happy to see them released on Switch as well. Disco Elysium is, of course, a masterpiece, but Life is Strange feels a bit more laid back/relaxing, and sometimes that's nice, too.
How could you miss The Land Beneath Us? It had a playable demo on the Coming Soon page weeks before it was released and was featured in multiple News items on the start screen.
I agree aboit the way Life is Strange is structured. The big draw for those games are the day to day interactions and relationships of the characters, so I think the ending would stick better if the opening was the that climactic moment, and having players go through everything that led up to it. I think it would have added even more emotional impact to the story. Personally, I really enjoy stories that show you the cataclysm or monumental event in the beginning and then take you back to the time leading up to it. The times I've read/play/watched things with that structure, it always hooks me and helps build a sense of anticipation or dread, wondering how we'll get to that moment. I'm trying to write a book that's been building in my head for years, and when I initially set to writing, I didn't know where to begin, so I decided to start at a big, life altering moment and pivot to what led up to that moment.
Roquelites are my fav and I was hoping you guys would review or anything the land beneath us cause I needed to know what's up before playing. Sounds like void trm. I'm excetieddd
I would pre-order "Glen Bolger Investigates"! Disco Elysium, I purchased it because of you guys a few years ago and what a masterpiece! So glad I watch your channel, thanks Glen and Mark!
Fantastic "the kettle's boiled" laugh right at the start with the Let's find out intro 😅 If Wacky Racers do a reboot, Mark's the lad for the Muttley laugh 👍
I had the exact same experience with Plant vs Zombies. I did absolutely everything in the first game but quit the second one after a few hours. I've tried it several times, thinking maybe it gets better after a while, but nope. I wish they would release a new one that you can buy.
Hope you don't mind but this time your Tesla "rant" was much more fun than anything these games had to offer. At least for me. And I heartily agree with the both of you. Cheers.
I agree with you whole heartedly on how you judge/review a free to play game, these are important issues and aspects of whether a free to play game are worth your time (personally I wouldn’t even bother). I played portal via the orange box as I’d heard of how good half-life was and managed to obtain it 2nd hand via this package. I did like the concept and kinda enjoyed it but I think it got real complex (for me at least) quite early on. Plus the games idea was very unique (maybe ahead of its time)
My 2015 BMW has features that can be enabled through a subscription. It was by far the biggest turn off when I was considering this car, because it felt I was paying for hardware that I wasn't getting to use. Obviously it didn't stop me, but every time I scroll past that menu item in the onboard computer, it annoys me a little.
Try Warframe on the Switch. It's the only free to play Switch game that I don't feel like is trying to sell me on something. It's gorgeous graphically, it has a wonderfully weird story, and the shop is very disconnected from the game. Plus, you can actually play the game to win the stuff needed to unlock new skins... So, you feel like you are accomplishing something. It's well worth taking a look at.
Portal games are really good and funny, especially the songs at the end of each game. I've been playing the "Portal bridge constructor", not finished it yet, that too is fun. The land beneath us looks worth a try too
I've been playing Gordian quest and it's definitely a great medieval card RPG game also... I find out that I like star wars hunters .m honestly I'm amazed that I enjoy it
Life is strange does such a wonderful job in making you feel like a teenager again ☺️ loved it so much and many tears were shed ❤️ and the music was good too
Yeah Di$ney has not been a “forward thinking company”, since its acquisition of Star Wars. It has essentially acted like most media corporations- throw money at something that’s already popular and expect easy returns, maybe have some initial novelty success by relying on past reputation, and run it into the ground past its expiration, then blame its failures on the customers and learn nothing, rinse and repeat. Example: direct to video sequels from the 90’s = current ‘live action’ remakes.
I've played Hunters for a couple hours and I'm pretty torn. The gameplay really is quite good. At the same time, the barrage of ads, progress bars, and digital carrots on a stick that you have to contend with every time you're in the menus are maddening. Even by the standards of free-to-play games, Hunters feels particularly egregious. I don't know guys. Perhaps the fun isn't worth my peace of mind. Going back to classics like Torchlight II feels like a breath of fresh air, back before everything got so commercialized.
Love life is strange it's my favourite game!. I have the comics for it too. But tbf it is much better on ps4 or pc such great story's for me. I think all of them are great. Thanks for the video again guys I look forward watching these every night it's like my tradition now before I go sleep lol. See yaaa
I am playing Astor as well right now. I agree there is a bit of jank, but for what this game is trying to do, I think its fine. Compared to other games trying to do the same with that are more expensive, its better than the crowd.
Life is Strange games are great. I played the first one and True Colors. Portal 2 was a nightmare for me; throwing Rubics cubes and opening portals were not my cup of coffee, I think it is easier to open a portal to hell and more fun too. I always wanted to play Disco Elysium but I have not have the funds to buy it even with the discounted prices,
Honestly, Diablo 4 isn't THAT bad with the microtransactions, although it can get out of control since you basically have to buy a battle pass every 3months if you really want to do the seasonal content. but other than that, it's mostly gaudy cosmetic stuff and the default armor in the game honestly looks better for the most part to me as it fits with the in game aesthetic more. i don't find any of it constantly shoved in my face. I'd still not let my kids mess with it, though, it's obviously made to be tantalizing to younger folks.
this week my time is going towards playing yohane the parhelion - numazu in the mirage. its a bit like slay the spire if all of the characters were anime girls 😅
Agree on the Starwars hunters discussion. i like the game. but man.... they really blast your screen with " BUY BUY BUY" and "CLAIM CLAIM CLAIM" . it is disgusting!
Same thing happened for me with Plants vs Zombies 2. Deleted it after a couple days and killed the series for me. Also another tick towards my hard nope (originally typed nope and autocorrected to hard nips lol) of anything related to EA. I do not buy their games any longer.
i hate to admit it, but yeah for the most part I skip the story these days, unless it's the core focus of the game, like a Kojima game, for example. I actually get excited for the cutscenes in his game, but sadly I just don't find much video game writing very good.
Star Wars looks like it will be good until you run into that kid that dumped hundreds of dollars on better gear ⚙️ Chewbacca will be pounding people 💫🦍
F2P games should get 0/20 - You pay for every little item and you keep nothing once the servers shutdown - 🗑🔥- Scamming kids - *And adults w/ Teslas - smh -
Star wars hunters is awesome. F2p or not each to there own. Don't see people moaning about the shite COD sells after paying 70 odd quid. Just saying.....
@@SwitchUpYt - I bet, it looks like a fun team based game..just hate seeing people throwing well earned money in to something thats potentially a temporary service - Apologies if my comment was a bit harsh there -- Always appreciate the great content here!
I've found so many games I'd have never heard of nor added to my wishlist let alone buy were it not for the channel. Thanks heaps SwitchUp, I'd have stuck to known titles from Nintendo or ports of games I've played elsewhere. Cheers Gents!
If you like the Land Beneath Us, you might want to give ZHP: Unlosing Ranger a try. It was a PSP game ported to the switch in a NIS 2 in 1 game pack. Might want to see some gameplay on yt before actually buying it though. It can be grindy, typical of NIS games like the Disgaea series.
life is strange is very much The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo meeets Butterfly Effect meets Donnie Darko. But i only played cause it was a great Sapphic love story lol
Yeah, having alotta fun with star wars hunters as well, pretty good fun so far, don’t mind the free to play model that much, they’ve gotta make money some how and charging for it up front might scare away initial players especially being on mobile
Love this series. You should do an interesting games series but where the daughter picks the games butttt there can’t be any involvement of cats in any way in the games haha
