That bolt landed exactly where my eye was focused haha. Love it! Hope that those of us who regularly hunt stress the seriousness of this issue when we are introducing people to the sport. The last thing we want to do is take animal suffering lightly
Excalibur crossbow is the best one to get. There is no need for a bow shop anymore. You can easily change your own string. All you need to buy is bolts and broadheads.
@ericrussell Hold up there happy brand loyalist! Excalibur has had its share of broken limbs and trigger mechanisms. I think you probably want that shop open. Bow presses are common now and compound systems aren’t that bad to change.
Please tell me a single brand that hasn't. I've asked multiple bow shops about the brand they see the least in for repair and it's been Excalibur everytime
@ATMgiver I’m not saying Excalibur isn’t a good crossbow, but just because your local shop said that they haven’t had issues doesn’t mean that Excalibur is the best. In fact, Excalibur has had numerous problems with broken limbs with micro’s and failed trigger systems. They have issued a number of recalls. The only way for Excalibur to make there crossbows faster is to make the draw weight heavier. What do you suppose happens with that? The technology of Excalibur is not overwhelmingly modern.
@@douglasborgaro6801 that's kinda the whole point of Excalibur is to keep it simple. I have never even entrained the ideal of a camed xbow. I got my micro the first year they came out and haven't had a single problem. 1,000s of shots through it and same limbs. I have a exocet from early 90s with same limbs
As someone who used to rifle hunt and no exclusively bow hunts I can absolutely say a crossbow is exactly like a rifle with the exception of taking 1000 yard shots.
I don’t think he said this in the best way he could off. Yes it very similar, but say for example if you miss vitals with a gun the shock absorption from the bullet hitting them will likely turn their insides into jello. You miss vitals with a bow it’ll just keep going. I suppose it’s a bit different with a crossbow then a compound but I imagine it’s closer to that than a gun. It’s almost like slicing vs blunt force trama
I’m going on my first bow hunt in four weeks-crossbow no less-and it’s been a steep learning curve, but I’m excited. Hoping to tag out for the first time ever.

Why all the hate and anti-crossbow comments? Odd no mention of rifle hunting from hundreds of yards away. If your tool of choice works for you and gets you out hunting: go you.
@Thebeingreal Most of these critics are motivated by their own wrongheaded opinions. They don’t read scientific facts or data. They don’t know it, but this is why they always loose the argument. Some of them will never learn. It doesn’t matter what they say! Crossbows have taken over! The majority is now in support of crossbows. There’s nothing they can do about it!
The hate is because it’s allowed in the same seasons as vertical bows…not an opinion, just letting you know where the hate comes from. Most believe that xbows are perfectly fine if they had a shorter season similar to firearms
@@chadhouser973 It is a big nothingburger really. The compound bows have sophisticated sights, some use triggers, etc. Then the recurve or even longbow folks. All claim to be “real” bow hunters. Even with a high fpm crossbow, you are still typically less than a 40 yard shot. Half that is even better. Michigan legalized crossbows for everyone several years ago: no mass deer culling like the fearmongers predicted. In fact, it helped bring up the hunter numbers that had been in decline for many years. Enjoy the tool you like!
Even in rifle hunting, I take shot placement very seriously. So understanding shot placement is not a forigen concept for me. My biggest problem is I've had my crossbow almost a year and I haven't even fired it yet. Took 3 months for the archery place to bring in a crank, then she goes through her storage and finds two. And charged full price even after she said she would give me a discount because she is getting out of Bear X brand. Bow I need to wait for a chance when I actually have some time on my hands... And maybe get a hold of a range finder.
A crossbow bolt release must be pretty noisy, relative to recurve or longbows. Do crossbow hunters notice more " drop" or flinch, on the part if the deer, when their bow is fired...especially on close shots?
It is difficult but it isn’t unreasonable do not let people hype you up or get nervous about it I filled 5 tags my very first year archery hunting knock on wood I’ve recovered every deer I’ve shot just know your ranges and be comfortable in your shot and you’ll do just fine my man
If your really new to crossbow hunting Aim about 4" down from where he hit just in case the deer tries to jump the string. He hit a double lung shot which is great. If you aim for the Heart and the deer dont move youll have a Heart & Double lung shot and if it tries to jump the string youll still get the double lung shot
Traditional stick bow baby... I shot 70# compound then went to trad bow. Takes skill and patience... had lots of does blow me. Not in a good way either... good luck brothers and sisters...
Do not worry about shot placement yet! First you have to FIND the Deer 🦌! Next you need LEGAL access to the Deer! Remember there are ZERO Deer where you can Legally hunt them and there are OCEANS of Deer where it is illegal for you to hunt! Enjoy!
I feel crossbows are the squatted trucks of hunting.. but only if you are capable of shooting a bow.. If it's due to age or health then by all means I totally agree with them. But if you can draw a bow back then........... Eehhhh come on
Lol if you can hold more that 10lbs at full draw then you also shouldn't be allowed to use a compound with all that let-off and a release strapped to your arm. My 10 yr old holds more weight at full draw on his #30 recurve than any grown man shooting a #70 compound holds at full draw. Plus he uses fingers and no release aid. So if a 10 yr old can do it. No grown man capable should resort to a super easy compound !!!
@matthunter1667 Ahhhh this guy gets it. I use a vertical bow in rifle season because I like the challenge. My brother uses a xbow because he doesn't care and wants backstraps but the area is firearm restricted. As long as I hunt in an ethical manner anyone who complains about what I use can buzz off

I've been trying to teach myself how to use a crossbow and hunt with it. Me and my friend are going to just leave life, leaving all electronics behind and we'll just start walking off to North Carolina, After that we're just gonna head West. So, knowing how to hunt with a crossbow will be very important if we want to be able to eat.
Here’s a tip to anyone new to crossbow hunting: unless you are physically, handicapped or old as hell, go be a man and practice all summer with a regular bow.
Recurve I’m assuming? That’s a “regular” bow. You’re not one of those compound guys with a 90% letoff compound, carbon fiber adjustable sights, front and rear stabilizers, trigger releases and think you’re holier than though shooting a technologically advanced piece of engineering and calling it “bow hunting” Oh wait, that’s how all broken down compound guys are. Carry on.

Soooo pretty much the exact same as when you use a gun. Who would have thought to aim for lungs and heart? Glad I saw this before I went hunting I might have aimed at the back leg or something.
@@DDHONLINE Very good point 😂 As someone that has recurves, longbows, compounds, a lever action and a crossbow, I completely agree with you. They're all different forms of archery and I enjoy them all. I didn't understand the hate of one over the others just like I didn't hate gun hunters just because I'm an archer. To each their own!
Compound bow hunting isnt bow hunting, if you arent using a recurve or a traditional long bow then you cant argue otherwise, i say this because of all the updated tech and cams in them
I would agree, studying vitals and knowing deer anatomy plays a major role in effective shot placement this was my first season with a crossbow and I got a doe at 20 yards perfect beards shot thru and thru tan about 15-20 yards and dropped, to my suprise not much blood loss lol but she ain’t run far
