You should really pony up for the belly pan at $2500 you've got the fuel tank exposed and if something bounces up off the road and punctures it you're now paying $13,750 for an engine out.
You definitely need the engine cover pan. This shouldn't even be a debate, especially with the oil cooler lines, gas tanks etc exposed. Surely you were just busting the Wizards balls on this one.
Rear tray is a must. Even at factory ride height, it's still a very low car, and there's many sensitives parts that could easily be damaged and worth way over the price of that tray. But even with the cost of this part, you made the deal of the century ! It makes no sense to me not to replace it. Also, full annual service. Again, you made the deal of the century, treat it well, and you will enjoy it for years.
Undertrays aren't for protecting It's for aerodynamics. Especially if those covers are plastic forget about any protection whatsoever. EDIT: Lmao and the wizard just said so himself
Except he's not going keep it for years. I suspect he will just fix what NEEDS to be fixed i.e no lights on the dashboard and just flip the car. It makes sense financially
@@TheMidnightNarwhal whilst those plastic aero covers may not provide much protection from 'impacts', they'll still provide protection from 'exposure' ie less road grime etc being flung up in to innards of the car. Plus they would still deflect things like small pieces of gravel etc. They still provide a 'mild' protective 'secondary' function.
Totally agree. The under tray, along with the aero function, protects all the pulleys that are facing the moving direction of the car. All road debris can be sent directly into it otherwise.
Congrats man! I would definitely spend the money on the belly pan. It makes the car much more stable, channels the air to the rear splitter, allows the car to not be a parachute in the back. Not to mention it definitely makes it more sellable later. With all the money saved already and its benefits its worth it and you can actually put it on yourself man! I wouldnt wanna hit something and it come up in the engine bay either such as an animal, something from another car or just a stick etc.
Never thought I’d see the day when hoovie totally cheaps out on a Ferrari in the wrong way, at the very least get the underbody engine cover put on, it’s madness not to
Exactly, I don't get it either. If it would be just preventing dirt getting in would be worth it not to mention at least some kind of protection from damage. Fixing the fuel tank dent seems to be not worth the money that I would agree on.
Not doing proper maintenance or fixing to spec is essentially a waste of investment. It will always be a cobbled salvage mess. Has to be trolling. Damn shame otherwise.
And the read defuser... come on, spends like 8k on a Mini and wont spend a couple on a 6digits Ferrari. Why not bring it back to mint, would probably get it all back and more...
Definitely gonna regret not getting the engine cover pan when you scrape and destroy the flywheel and oil cooler going over a bump! Also you can already see what’s happening to the fuel tanks!
I could live with a dent in the tank but the missing engine cover and broken diffusor should be fixed. I mean they do protect the car and improve it a lot aerodynamically.
Engine cover its a must! Come on man you're treating the 458 same as last owner did! Rocks will chip your flywheel, oil pan, fuel tank.. its not worthed to cheaped out that
I think fixing everything except dropping the engine for those fuel tanks was worth it. This car has always been an icon, God knows what state it's fluids and it's serviceable components are in.
Beautiful car, I do hope he was just kidding about passing on the Annual maintenance fluid change. Not knowing a ton of history on that car first thing would be all fluids/filters. $1500 is nothing.
@@vamosaltemacongabrielmende3965 Absolutely agree, you can’t change the past but moving forward that car deserves a full flush to give it a second chance.
100% need to get the engine under cover back on it. will stop any crap hitting your tanks and other costly stuff, and if the air gets hold the rear diffuser that will set you back 3k to 4k
Really enjoyed your video, great find. I would definitely replace the battery and also the body pan at the rear. The pan stops the rear bumper and difuser being torn off, plus it protects the exposed fly wheel. Also I think a body shop could pull out the fuel tank dent, like a paintless dent repair. Enjoy your channel, one of the best on RU-vid.
C'mon Hoovie, do the full service and the tray, - at least the tray. All it's gonna take is one big stone flicking up into the flywheel to grenade your engine. You really gonna save $2500 now only to spend the $15,000+ for an engine out and a flywheel replacement, as well as whatever other damage it's caused? You've already got a huge dent in the fuel tank from not having the tray on. You really wanna chance it again? Maybe the fuel tank won't be so lucky next time. The service is also gonna be important since you don't know the history of the car. As reliable as the 458 is, it's reliable *for a Ferrari*. It's not reliable enough to be cheaping on the services. It's still a Ferrari, not a Hilux. You haggled the original owner down $20,000 what he was asking for. You can afford to spend an extra $3000 to make sure the car's going to be good for years to come.
Should still do the rear tray It runs air over the rear difuser improving grip Without it the rear bumper/diffuser just acts as an air damn holding thr car back like a parachute
So my takeaway is that you got a great deal on a car that needs a small bit of work but instead of making it right, you are going cheap, like the previous owner... Put the pan on it, get the service done right, pull the dent in the fuel tank, and then enjoy it worry free for the next 4 weeks until you flip it. :)
I wouldn't do the fuel tank personally, but everything else should be done. The cover pan and annual service are a complete must in my opinion. I highly doubt that this car has fresh fluids of the correct type in it.
For the Diablo, might be a longshot but the drone could be from a bad exhaust hanger, or damper. My Lexus had the same thing where it would whine on the highway (it did it always, but just more obvious when cruising at 65). I ended up adding some additional clamps and dampers on them and attached to my exhaust. I did 2 of them and it cleared the problem right up, I couldn't believe it. Not sure if this would help you, but I hope you see this and hopefully it can help.
From my experience with older Italian super cars, that Diablo could have been in an accident, received unseen damage and has been left that way for years. So many “cheap” 80s/90s super cars got into accidents that were never listed on insurance since the way things worked back then
I wouldn't have thought Hoovie would cheap out so much on it. I know it's salvage title but with a little more work it seems like it could be in pretty nice condition. I hope you get rid of those black badges and stuff, too.
It’s probably just a bit for the video. He’s gonna do most of those things that he said no to (probably not the tank cause he’s right it’s not needed). He spends thousands on fixing 5k cars so no way he’s gonna skip these items on a FERRARI.
For your Lamborghini “drone” I had a brake booster that made that noise. Found it by applying vacuum to the system without the engine running. Good luck!🍀👍
Why would you kick out the only knowledgable guy who noticed 3 more things the instant he was under the car? He was the most interesting part of the video.
it was kinda sad to see you say no to a lot of things for this repair..... like a full service. I would definitely have bought an rear belly pan - especially since the clutch is has an open hole. This way rocks and dirt would not go in and damage the transmission ..... personally I think you should do the full service since the repair bill was so low... the fuel tank replacement was definitely not necessary though. As for the moaning Diablo.... could it do something with back pressure in the exhaust somewhere..... as you said it gets louder the more you press the accelerator.... or it could just be an exterior weather stripping seal somewhere... those are my two best guesses...

Thanks for the Normal Guy Supercar shout out, it’s such an under appreciated channel. Also, I am so jealous that you got the driver’s car deal of the century.
Hoovie, I have a feeling that your glove box button is just fine. Leave it to the Italians, there is a setting in the menu on the left screen for the glove box. Make sure it’s turned on or the button doesn’t work. The pull string your currently using is a factory thing. It wasn’t put in by the previous owner.
Regarding your Diablo noise, I know it is a completely different animal...but my 1995 5.0L Mustang was making a similar noise. I tore the transmission out of it, replaced the throw out bearing and pilot bearing and the sound was still there. Took it to a buddy who found I actually had a leaking intake gasket and the increased vacuum was actually sucking air past the rear main seal making the noise. A shot in the dark perhaps, but thought I would share what I learned just in case it was relevant. Good luck!
At this point, I have to assume that Hoovie keeps buying shit "sight unseen" with no inspection because he makes more money off getting screwed and complaining about it than by actually buying decent vehicles and flipping them when he's done with them.
Yes you now understand the channel. It's not just a song and dance when he says it's "the dumbest automotive channel in all of RU-vid." It's a fact, that literally pays his bills. Welcome to the party🤝
This particular car is the epitome of "I can't afford this car" (the previous owner) and reminds me of all those Mercedes and BMW drivers I see rolling down the street rocking spare tires and taped up windows because they cant afford the maintenance... gotta look rich though!
I gotta say, I’d sure go ahead and do the annual service. I know I’ve heard of weird stuff specifically with the brake system if it’s not serviced. Especially since it had different brakes then stock I’d personally like the peace of mind that the fluid was inspected. And don’t forget there is a TSB on the 458 brake system that has no repair yet on the 458. It’s something to do with the Bosch components. I think I’d also do the under tray, though I think given this cars pedigree I’d try to source a used piece not new. And finally I think I’d repair the tub, specifically because that crack can and likely will get worse. I think I’d pass on the fuel tank issue unless it becomes a problem and while the diffuser is kinda important there’s no guarantee it won’t break again especially in Kansas and some of the roads here. I again might find a used one later if I broke the existing one more or worse. At the end of the day it’s a high mileage, salvage title Ferrari, with interesting modifications and ugly repairs on the front welded areas. It’s never going to be worth what a clean title car is worth. BUT it also is a running and driving 458 Spider that has minimal issues (except those noted) that you got for less then 100k. After these few repairs and the interior leather repairs and maybe a switch for the glove box your into this car for about half a non molested one. That’s a good purchase in my book. Likely anything that pops up would do so on any 458 and not attributed to the accident at this point so gold star for Tyler.
@@CrashRacknShoot incorrect, the rotors, calipers and pads are no longer stock, all of the internal lines, valves and electronics are still there, and the issue lies with a Bosch electronic valve.
That will smith joke was a great way to wake up this morning? especially since I'm in the hospital. Thank you... And look forward to watching the rest of the video
@@MarcoElkes you got a point, hell you can even buy two cars for that price, but a Ferrari which brand new would probably go for 200K to 300K. A 10k-15k bill at 86k miles is reasonable.
Ikr, this is probably the best car in his fleet (leaving the condition aside) imo. This car deserves to be brought back to its glory and not cheap out on !
After dumping tens of thousands of dollars into beater cars I can't believe the decision's been made to cheap out on a 458. It deserves better. And it definitely needs a bellypan, annual maintenance, and fiberglass repair at the bare minimum. Disappointed.
@@ebruceii whats that kind of argument, if you can't maintain a ferrari don't buy a ferrari. In europe we have alot of respect for expensive exotic cars, and take good care of them.
Chill out it’s just a bit for the video. He’s gonna do most of those things that he said no to (probably not the tank cause he’s right it’s not needed). He spends thousands on fixing 5k cars so no way he’s gonna skip these items on a FERRARI.
I feel so sorry for that Ferrari went from half assed owner to its new half assed owner. I didn’t mind the fuel tank dent, but all the rest of the stuff he skipped over just annoying. I think the missing bottom panel is important for ware and tare reasons on the exposed parts of the engine.
@@blueberrycobbler no when u buy a car who cost 200k+ brand new u don't do cheap repar like this , wrong brake , cheap tires and missing part.... actually this car lose matching number without original part and worth nothing like everything an american touch who come from Europe cuz u respect nothing ...
Dude that under engine tray is a must. The defuser is a must. And the front trunk crack is also a must with the increase in ride height. The full service too.
I am going to assume that the tin foil was because the previous owner was getting a "whine" in the aftermarket stereo components. Sometimes (most times not) this can help to insulate if you are having a ground loop issue.
in Australia you would suffer from what they call 'tall poppy syndrome" any Ferrari that wasnt hooned around, given the Ferris Bueller valet treatment, or had a timing belt with a mid engine are actually not stupid expensive to maintain compared to most cars that are not cheap brand new.
I know it's not the same car but my Mondeo V6 had a moan just like the Lambo. It was a defective EGR valve. Changed the valve and the moan was gone. I hope this helps.
Drive it with the dipstick removed. I have experienced strange whining sounds under acceleration due to failures in a PCV system. The next thing would be to check the intake system for a poor sealing gasket or similar.
Well it's a salvaged car. The original owner probably didn't want anything to do with it after the crash so it went to auction and was bought by someone who really wanted a 458 but could never afford one in working condition. The new owner then did almost all of the repairs himself in his garage and since he had no money left after buying the car, he cut corners wherever possible just to get it working. That's the most likely story that comes to mind.
Check your Air Oil Seperator / Crankcase ventilation system system on the Lambo... I've had a similar strange noise and turned out to be a bad oil separator causing the motor to pull a vacuum through the rear main seal, which creates a moaning/whistling sound~ Replaced the separator and put in a new rear main seal just to be sure and boom - noise was gone. Good luck!
Wild idea with the Diablo… could it be some kind of grounding/voltage issue making it’s way to a speaker in the cabin? If the RPM changes also make a change to the frequency of the sound, the charge put out by alternator may be causing it?
Tyler, tell David to check the idle air control valves. I have heard that several times before and it was almost always an IAC. Also there may be a helmtz resonator on the intakes between throttle body and air filters. A lot of domestic cars those sometimes crack and also make that noise.
I think the sound the Diablo makes , is a worn auxiliarybelt pulley... I had the EXACT same noise on my car, and also in any gear... Does the sound get louder when speeding ?
