Just had mine delivered to the UK. Whilst expensive, it’s just so simple to install and it ‘just works’. Completely replaced my SmartThings and Hubitat setup. Added the Starling and Aqara M2 and happy days. Even my old Xiaomi Sensors work perfectly which were hit and miss on ST. Wish I’d moved to HomeKit sooner!
Starling is one of the best things I have in my SmartHome. It's pretty amazing in HK. The package notification announcing a package is at the door on my AirPlay2 speakers is something we use everyday, thanks to my wife's spending habits. lol
Brian, What a brilliant workaround! So nice to see you dragging Google into the world of automations. I can’t wait for the day that this would actually work without a third-party bridge. I need to experiment and see what I can do to make things work with all of my Google and nest devices. Thanks for discovering this work around and making another excellent video. You probably should update your song to dream by Rush!
Yes, Google trails far behind most smart hub providers in terms of features. I think they aim to provide a smooth experience (which still is not always the case) and they might over-cook the development and testing because of this. It all takes time I guess. Looking forward to the Made by Google Launch on October 7th though😉
Do you have to have a Nest Subscription to record to Apple Homekit secure video? I'd like to just use the camera for alerts on the nest hub, but only record to HSV.
Any chance you could try to set up a 2 week on/off schedule for a nest thermostat based around icalendar with this for us? The Nest learning ‘stat by itself only allows a one week programme which is insufficient. Thanks!
I feeeeeeeeel like the way to do this is Shortcuts...at least that's my idea. So here's what I think will work: 1. Sunday or Monday (whichever day you want to start) - enable the set of automations that drive your weekly thermostat controls. 2. Next Sunday or Monday - disable that set of automations, enable the next set. Thoughts?
@@AutomateYourLife thanks! Yes, that sounds like exactly what I hope is possible, but the hub isn’t readily available in the UK and is quite costly to get here, so want to be sure it will work before I go down that road. Unless you can recommend alternative plug & play units which would achieve the same thing?
When viewing your Nest Camera in the Apple Home app, do you see a live view straight away or do you have a large Google 'G' logo in place? I have just set up Hoobs on a Pi4B for my Nest Indoor/Putdoor Battery Cameras, and have this experience, even when I have a Nest Aware account with 24/7 live recording. Im wondering if I should get a Starling Home Hub instead? Reading online they say it is due to the Google Device Access API.
If your cameras are turned on, then the camera shows a preview in the Apple Home App. If they're off, it's just grey. The preview is sometimes an older frame though. A few moments is all usually.
I've tried to predict that before and the fact is Google is entirely unpredictable. Some of the options have come available for it, and the bones are all there for this to happen. Why isn't it there I don't know, but I can't give you a timeline. Sorry!
Sadly I don't have the floodlight from nest. Given what I saw though, I bet it will. I'd just reach out to the folks that make the hub and ask about your specific use case!
@@AutomateYourLife That would be great. Thank you! It is great to set lights according to sunset (just the Google Home app does this) but it does not allow for darker, rainy days unfortunately. I have suggested a few additional routine starters to Google.
TSN 1200 Ottawa Radio @ 1:43? Nice - tells me you're a fellow Ottawan, or a fellow Senators fan, maybe both! Greetings from East End Ottawa! Great video BTW....
@@coreywalker2020 i in the same boat. The starling app says that i can add my battery-operated cameras to Komekit secure video. Did you manage to find anything on this. Just got myself the Nest cameras and the nest doorbell
I’ve largely ignoredNest Products because they didn’t work with HomeKit, but this is a great solution. I might have to look into the Nest Protect smoke detectors
I’d pay for a device like that to bring my Wyze cams into HomeKit without having to hack the Wyze firmware, it’s my only home tech I don’t have in HomeKit
I hope someone can help me as I'm running out of time, quickly. I have 4 Google nest wired cameras and the plan that's 12$ a month. What I need is to save footage/recording/clip that could be as long as an hour or 30 minutes. I did it once on my phone and for the life of me I cannot figure out how I did it. HELP....PLEASE! It's footage of my dog that died and I need it.
When you go into the camera, you should see history along the bottom. The events are little blue bars and you can scroll back and forth to find the event. Then hit event details and once you're in that screen you'll find an option to download the event up top right as an icon
Normally I'd say yeah I hear ya...except Thermostat won't get Matter Cameras don't get Matter Protect is still on Nest API Guard is at end of life Matter doesn't Matter here.
@@AutomateYourLife Yea I'm curious about the interaction between GAA. Nest thermostat may not get Matter. But It talks to Google Home which is Matter. So shouldnt Google home tell Alexa and Siri, hey I have a thermostat here you can control? As for camera's I stopped buying any camera that didn't support all three. My wyze cams are now watching the garage. I am using Eufy cams around the house as they support google amazon and apple systems.
@@AutomateYourLife I've been hunting for a way to get my nest hello to trigger Smartthings automations using the zones with no luck. The Smartthings integration that I've seen only allows triggering based on 'motion detected' anywhere... not zone specific. Any insights on how to do this? The HK integration you've shown is awesome. Thanks for the video!! I just can't believe I might have to switch to apple to full-utilize my google camera. Weird!
starling hub not recommended ...1st not apple authorised 2nd when live in europe they still send usa powerplug 3rd with cat 5 cable ....for this kind of money !! bad buy ....the connection in home app works...thats all!
