Very much appreciate the video brother. Finally a good in-depth and structured break down of each field. I've gotten into the SWE field without a degree but decided to go back to school and finish my CS degree. Been trying to decide if I want my concentration to be SWE or a change to CyberS. This was very helpful, thank you again bro

thanks for making the decision even harder. i really wanna go for cyber security but the lack of jobs has me questioning. seems like it’s so much easier to get a job for software developers

Cybersecurity wins the race with emerging Gen AI 😎 knowledge on how to utilize Gen AI in cybersecurity and how to secure AI in more responsible way will be the deal breaker in future tech! Also cybersecurity domains are vast continuous learning and upskilling is the key

Hey Jono, I really want to do Software Development so I bought a course "boot camp" and I'm currently learning how to code. However I am a Veteran and I get to go to college for free so I thought it would be cool to go ahead and get my degree in either Computer Science or Cyber Security. But all I've been hearing is that a Computer Science degree doesn't make or break whether you get a job (only knowing what your doing/experience does) so I thought maybe it would be better to get a Cyber Security Degree instead and work in Sofwtware Development with my coding boot camp experience. The reason I was considering Cyber Security degree over Computer Science degree is because I'm not naturally great at math (not to say I can't develop the skill) but I don't really like it (like most people lol). But I would like to have the most opportunities available to me when I graduate while also being realistic. Please let me know your thoughts. Thanks in advance!

Hey there, I would recommend CompSci over Cyber Security degree as you can definitely get more opportunities. CompSci degree are useful in cyber security jobs, but Cyber security degree isn't really useful in CompSci jobs. Alternatively, a CompSci degree may offer Cyber security major. Hope that helps!

Wow, I am in the exact same spot right now! I am also a veteran in a career transition. I am thinking of using my GI bill for an Information Systems Technology degree. I noticed (at least at my local university) the comp sci degree was almost entirely physics, engineering, and calculus, with a few computer classes thrown in. Whereas the IST degree is all security, networks, coding, etc seems more well rounded to me. I'm no expert but seeing as software development is mainly about practical experiences, it seems getting a computer related degree of any kind would help get a boost in the hiring company's HR department and the actual coding experiences/portfolio will give you the experience to get in as a jr developer. Plus, with the IST/cyber degree you can always fall back on a more basic IT support job to gain industry experience and continue building your skills.

Hey there, thanks for the feedback. I've personally studied Computer Science and it focuses more on theoretical understanding about data structures and algorithms which is highly sought after in many career fields. Software Engineer overlaps with CompSci in some areas but are generally more technical. Hope that helps!

@@TechwithJono Awesome, and thank you for the feedback. Just one more question. I’m sorry. I know you’re very busy. What are your thoughts on a cybersecurity degree vs. CS? The whole reason I was thinking of CS is because I want to go into cyberspace after I graduate.

Bro is explaining difference between a data engineer and a cyber security analyst
@zojirushi1

Cyber security analyst interview process is more conventional and less technical. Where you sell yourself to the interviewer. You have to have good general understanding of the current cves, common vulnerabilities and exposures, and your SIEM knowledge, and other networking and infrastructure knowledge and experiences. Cybersecurity jobs: ICT security.
