The Slim was my first Sony Console - Got it for Uncharted 3. It's still got a prominent place in the entertainment unit.

Still have my PS3 slim and play on it a lot! Specially without BC, the PS3 still is a great system to own. So many exclusives and great games.

The fact the ps3 had a logo change must drive ocd people crazy since the games have two different label styles.

Had a 60 gig fat PS3. That thing was a beast, also flipping hot. But in 2006, having a system that was also a blu ray player, could output 1080, and was also a PS2 was pretty sweet.

PS3 Slim 2001 is the very best because you can install full Rebug. My baby was just sitting gathering dust until PS3Xploit came out a few years ago and luckily I did not update it for a long time. So now it has a 500 GB SSD filled with titles and I cleaned the insides and applied new paste. Interestingly enough my PS3 Slim is 11 years old but the paste underneath the IHS is fine. I only applied paste on top of the heat spreader and I used MX4 compound. My temps are 55 Celsius on both CPU and GPU. I wonder if my Slim is a unicorn? I hear a lot of people say they get bad temps without delidding. I only cleaned it and applied new paste once in 11 years because the fan was slightly louder and now it is almost completely silent.

I love the design of the PS3 Slim and how reliable it is. I have this model since 2010, and I got also the Super Slim brand new in 2016. I would love to see the teardown of this model too.

This is perfect timing. I just delidded the IHS on my fat PS3 60GB and changed the thermal paste underneath. Now I just need a PS5 and I'll have the two best backwards compatible consoles!

PS3 was a beast at the time, imagine if console nowadays still use cell processor

I had a PS3 slim. Great console. Would of liked if you had a side-by-side comparison of the fat PS3 to the PS3 slim - like you did with the PS1. Easier to see the difference as to how they made the PS3 smaller. Just seems they reduced the transistor size to have less cooling and power supply to make it work. Right?

They took the PS2 components out and made the CPU and GPU smaller. Boom, saved you 15+ minutes of filler.

I like the PS3 Super Slim better and I own one. I like the Super Slim's old-fashioned disc-loader because the automatic slot-loading disc drives from and the original PS3 Fat and original PS3 Slim are junky and they can eat up your discs as time goes by.

Hard to believe that they made it even smaller towards the end of the cycle

Earlier this year my friend gave away his overheating PS3 slim. The overheating was pretty bad, 30 minutes of playing and it turns off. I took it apart, changed the thermal paste between the heat spreader and the heat sink. It helped slightly, I could play as long as I need, but the fan was roaring, driving everyone mad. I took it apart again, the new thermal paste was already dry after a few months of work! Checked the RU-vid, learned that you need to remove the heat spreaders and changed the thermal paste underneath. So I did, but instead of using thermal paste, I’ve applied gallium. Unfortunately you can only use it between the chips and the heat spreaders, because the heat sink is made of aluminum and gallium will corrode it. Now it works so silent, I can hardly hear the fan under the full load.

Welp I have a Wii and an original PS3. Coincidence? Idk don't ask me.

They removed the ps2 backward compatibility was a mistake and I know they have to removed it for reasons

I bought the model 2 ps3 this year Because I wanted to get the model 2 ps3 originally in 2020 and I ended getting the ps3 top loader which this year the top loader stopped working and decided to get the model 2 ps3 because why I'm going to waste money on getting another ps3 top loader where I can get the model 2 ps3 instead

Really don’t understand why consoles are so big. Any average person can build an itx gaming pc which smaller and more powerful than console.

I’ve had all of them at one point but my dad just gave me his from 2006 it’s bc and the fat version even if it wasn’t bc I still like the original Spider-Man font so the launch look is my favorite plus having the guts of a ps2 in my ps3 is way better then when they removed bc all together for ps2

Cell processors get hot??? not on my book. My ps3 stays very silent (yes I can still hear the fan, but its super silent) even after 6 hours of playing COD or any other graphically impressive game. I don't know man :D

The PS3 looks like a engine to a supercar when you take the top off, they did a cool redesign. I would love to see a prototype of the slim someday, just to see the path they took in the redesign.

The 3000 slim model have some differences (based on my model, 3000A NTSC-J): - Disc (Blu-ray) drive now use ribbon cables - Most components are changed (not the same model), though layout still the same - RSX and Cell are smaller in size (as far as I remember its between 40 and 30 something nanometers) - Any type of CFW is not compatible, only PS3HEN - Reduced power consumption and reduced PSU wattage (around 200 instead of 250ish) - Heatsink (and cooling solutions) are slightly different, although works the same

The Slim model wasn't my favourite console design wise. By the time I could afford a PS3, the only option was the Slim 250GB. I really wanted the PlayStation 3 Fat model back then. But I really love my slim model now. It's been reliable ever since I bought it back in December of 2009.

My PS3 slim is the CECH-2501A where the drive PCB is actually integrated into the motherboard. So replacing the drive is actually a little easier since you don't have to swap PCBs.

The PS3 2500 series is my favourite version, I use two of them as my primary media players even though I have newer devices attached to the TVs. The 3000 series may be a bit quieter, but it looks and feels cheaper plus I recall it removes the indicator LEDs.

I will take the Fat over the slim any day of the year, as I personally think it's the best looking console ever produced! Besides 3 Fat PS3's, two of which are the backwards compatible model, I do also have an Ultra slim in my collection, which is also a beautiful little system! (I just don't like the slim's aesthetics!)

Bought my slim in june of 2010. Its been shipped to alaska and back, dropped on a hardwood floor twice, and has hundreds of thousands of hours of playtime on it and its still running strong today. Ive even gone through 2 controllers since ive had it. Played it so much the joysticks wore out. A beast of a system.

This is a game bro. The first model was not profitable. That's the reason they made two other systems to catch up with the profit by removing features. And the CPU problem got fixed too.

I’ve still got my original phat I bought new in 2008. Never opened and it’s loud as hell but I recently got a Slim CECH-2504b that I plan to repaste and put a 1T ssd. Gonna retire that phat before it finally conks out on me.

My 320gb 3001B slim is way louder than my 160gb phat ever was, so I don't really agree with the statement that it's the quietest PS3 lol. I've cleaned it thoroughly and it only hits about 68c but the fan has a high pitched sound like a gaming laptop, where the phat just sounded like a rush of air. The Blu-ray drive is also a lot louder, almost sounds like the Xbox 360's horrible DVD drive.

Still use my ps3 slim today. Fucking best console ever. Online is free and it has tons of awesome exclusives. COD games are very populated. I own all cod titles on PS3 and all have players constantly. My favorite and most populated game being black ops 2. Still has a huge community.

I really miss my PS3 Fat it was a stunning looking machine but once the blu-ray died I figured it was cheaper to sell and buy a super slim at that point, I do regret it now.

I am really enjoying this slim series of videos. I do prefer Sony later models that is really superior, and always prefer to wait a few years to get better and smaller systems from them.

Just out of curiosity, the Cell chip that we see in this footage is mounted with the backside upwards right? So what we are looking at is the silicon substrate of the chip, while all the pads are located on the chip frontside, which is not visible. If yes, then I am also wondering if anybody was able to physically remove the Cell chip from the motherboard to have a look at its frontside pads metallization. It would be for me more interesting than looking at the backside of a chip.
