I love the format of this video and narration! Can you provide some insight on stem length and handlebars for fatbikes? I run super short stems on my mtb but navigating snow is a lot different.

@sebmour 2 года назад
Thanx Yeah navigation in loose snow is something else but that’s more to do with tire pressure and experience. I run a 50mm stem on my fatbike compared to 35mm on my MTB. I run 800 bars cut down to 780 compared to full size 800 on my mtb. This way I feel at home since I sized down on my fatbike (medium instead of large) to keep more manoeuvrability because of the size and responsiveness of the tires. Cheers

Schrader or Presta valve?@@sebmour
@sebmour
@sebmour 9 месяцев назад
@@manFromPeterborough my Rocky Mountain was Schradder. My new fatbike is presta valve. Why?
@manFromPeterborough
@manFromPeterborough 9 месяцев назад
We don't see much of them in Australia except for thin tyre bikes, I don't like Presta for the fact there's not many gauges for them, fat bikes do well with Schrader valves, the only thing a core remover is needed for deflation and patching punctures. I remove core after water test to locate slow leak, it's not good to patch stretched rubber and I use patch roller to stitch the patch down@@sebmour

Brand of tire. Tubeless or tube I'd think matters also. It's a fun learning experience trying different pressure as I go. Becomes to much really

Yeah they do have influences. I am riding a new Fatbike now and ut came with Gnarwhals. Super grip at low pressure but only ok at mid pressures. I really really loves my Nrth45 Dillinger5

Great video! I am from Kyiv, Ukraine and I have a fatbike TREK farley 7 2017. That kind of bike is not obvious for our region. I see You are very experienced in winter riding. Would You be so kind to give me some advise for tire pressure setup in case of slippery snow, packed snow and icy packed snow. My weight is 190 - 198 lb, my tires is 26" 4.7" , I use tubes. I look forward for Your advice. Thanks a lot.
@sebmour

At your weight and tire size, I would start with 5psi front and 6 psi rear. Are your tires studded? Mine are and they grip very well
@yurimarusiy1510
@yurimarusiy1510 3 года назад
@@sebmour Thanks a lot. I have not a studded tires. My tires is a bontrager barbagazzi 26" 4.7" with tubes filled with hermetic. So on slippery and icy snow I have a problems with turns and with sliding down of my tires on the walls of the fire roads in the forest. May be this issue links with my tires pressure - 7 psi front and 8 psi rear. What do You think ? Your advice will be very important for me.

@@yurimarusiy1510 If you loose front wheel traction when cornering, more weight on front wheel and less tire pressure. I also ride with tubes since I have schrader valves and I sometimes ride at 3.5 front and 4 back. On ice, studs make all of the difference.

Im getting my 1st fat bike on order soon, what about tire pressure on pavement, gravel or dirt trails in summer? You fill those suckers up or still keep them low?
@sebmour
@sebmour 2 года назад
Nice and congratulations!!! Pavement I run about about 12-15 psi with Maxxis FBR and FBF but it will depend on tire type. When I used Vee tires slick, I was running about 20 psi which is rock hard on a fatbike. Gravel about 10-12 Sand like a soft beach around 5psi Cheers
