How To Make Money With Your Street Photography Skills?
It's a myth that you can't make money with your street photography skills.
I will explain how I've been able to go from corporate slave to full-time photographer and how you can too.
Hope you enjoy.
Peace,
JP

Just the fact you went from a corporate slave to a full time photographer is inspiring enough to push us all to follow our passions! Thanks for sharing. Ps. the French accent was hilarious 😂

I couldn’t agree more, as I’ve been in photography for nearly fifty years, and these elements of understanding are key to enabling work in and around photography, and as you say provide access to areas and people you would not otherwise have. Work and art are not necessarily the same thing, unless you are being employed for who you are, and not what you can do. Love the video, keep going, always interesting to say the least. G

Great value! Totally agree with everything you said, especially the part where you have to understand what the client wants to convey not what you want to show with your photography. I'd also add to the ego part the fact that some photographers, myself included, can't get over their ego to work with other photographers. In the beginning I wouldn't really feel comfortable working with others and that can put you in disadvantage lots of times. Btw step one is a pretty great description for a CV ahah

Some great point’s.8 years ago I started shooting motorsport as a passion,mainly motocross.I got really good at it,photographing the best riders in Britain then stepped to GP level photographing the best in the world home and abroad,followed by top brands,oil companies,bike brands etc and getting paid for it.Living the dream….then my passion started turning into hard work as demand grew and the passion left me and ultimately last year I stopped photographing motocross.It really is a fine line and a balancing act between pleasure and work.

Completely agree with what you've said - Which makes me even happier that I don't make money directly from the sale of Street Photography images, which is the thing I find most joy from. What do you photograph now?

I read your comment and I can relate to this as I was a musician for 40yrs playing on stage, I always said it was no different to the guy outside digging a hole, it was just a job and you got paid for it. Now retired I don't play any instruments and took up photography instead.

what do you mean by agencies? Like marketing/branding agencies?
@JamesParsons1

Exactly that, these companies have access to many clients. So once you are in, you might get called up for a bunch of different work

Not everyone can afford to work for free. People need to eat. PAY ARTISTS
@JamesParsons1
@JamesParsons1 8 месяцев назад
I'd say you've misinterpreted my point. Work for free to get opportunities that are likely to progress your career, and perhaps you won't get if you were to charge. These are 99% of the time opportunities you've found/ want in on. But if someone asks you to work for free, and it's not an incredible opp, always say no. 99% of the time people who pay you in ‘exposure’ don't have a network of paying clients.
@BraveNewWorldAH
@BraveNewWorldAH 8 месяцев назад
@@JamesParsons1 While offering work for free might occasionally unlock opportunities, it's not a feasible strategy for many artists who depend on their craft for a living. Your comment suggests a selective approach, which is reasonable, but the industry's over-reliance on unpaid work can unfairly benefit those who can afford to volunteer their services, leading to a skewed representation in the art world. This practice can undermine the value of creative work and make it difficult for all artists to achieve fair compensation and recognition.
@JamesParsons1
@JamesParsons1 8 месяцев назад
Very interesting perspective! I think as people get into the business, exposure/ promised future work is often falsely-sold by clients in order to get free work, which is really poor behaviour. Whether I have been in a lucky position where i've been able to consume a lot of business podcasts and books, i've found that as my skills increased as an artist, these offers very quickly disappeared and I don't think i've received a cowboy business offer in a lonnnng time. I still stand by getting brands on your portfolio, shows other brands you are trust-worthy and worth working with.
