I bought the same car new in 2013 and it still in great shape 10 years later. No issues and I get 330 miles per tank. One of the best cars I've ever owned.
@Ess Sleeter, I drive these vehicles a full week before doing the reviews... so my comments on the day of the shoot have been developed over the week... not on the spot, thank you - Dave
Dave got biased the on Soul right up front. He said "the car didn't feel secure", feels flimsy", "uncomfortable when a semi-truck passes"...alluding that KIA cut corners on the body and build quality of the Soul! Hey Dave, the Soul gets top ratings in the Federal crash Testing, and a perfect score in the stricter European crash tests. If the car is lite it's due to the large amounts of ultra Lite & expensive High Tensile Strength Steel used in the body! Class leading safety features too! Relax!
Compared to the Nissan Cube and Scion XB... The Kia Soul is the better looking IMO. I know its not that big, but 2.0L in such a small car, I was surprised how quick it takes off. Mind you that 0-60 is around 9.2sec... It feels fast when inside. Plus with some aftermarket parts so easy to bolt on (SSD Strut Tower Braces/Chassis Braces, K&N Cold Air Typhoon Intake), the car holds it own, and does so very well.
AWESOME, DUDE! We too, get way better MPG than the review claimed. We live in West-by-God-Virginia and mountain raods and highways slip past with 33+ mpg. You tell 'em!
Ok. My wife, (51) and I, (59) LOVE this car! Yeah, we fit the demographics as a "target" market. We bought ours, (in color, DUNE) back in March. 8500 miles later, NOTHING has changed our minds on the SOUL. We bought the "+" body style only because our local dealer didn't have an "!" on the lot and we were HUNGRY to own this car. The 6 speed auto transmission is flat out awesome. Hey you two...NO comment on the Infinity sound system? The sub-woofer is a THUMP-THUMP-THUMP wonder!
Apparently, you guys didn't bother the read the sticker inside the driver's door jamb, which states that the "dry" or "curb weight" is 3300 lbs...There's nothing "light" about these cars. I own two of them.
Great review guys! completely agree with you in some facts like huge under steering, completely unstable at highway speed, specially in windy areas like were I live, and something I really hate is that you can't adjuste the seat height, but something I have to say is I love all the standard features in this car no other car has it all on that price range, good legs room and great head room
Very poor unprofessional/bias review - both reviewers. I love the front clip of this vehicle and the overall stance. So tired of the hundreds of mold-stamped sedans and SUVs. I went and looked over the options and prices - not bad. You guys shouldn't be such tools about a car that may be the next Mini/Fiat fad. Truth is, the masses are plain fed up and sick of the over-priced sameness in the Pilots, Corollas, Civics, etc. I think you may have sold me. I'm look'n at an "Alien" model tomorrow.
I bought a 2013 Soul + about 2 months ago and I absolutely love it. I'm a big guy, 6'2" 325lbs & I have no complaints about leg or head room & the seats are very comfy, at least for me. I would definitely recommend this car to anyone, not just someone on a budget. You get so much car for the money it's ridiculous. I avg 27 mpg combined driving, no complaints there. Also, get the upgraded stereo, it ROCKS!
Good point Simone.. You cant find one with better for the price.. seems to be a certain push to trash this car... but its not working.. theres a lot of them on the road now.. and I haven't spoken to anyone who owns one who isn't happy with their choice.
As for being safe our 2013 ! model was rear ended by an 18 wheeler hard enough to push the tailgate up to the back seats and into another car in front of her. She basically was able to walk away.
Well... I also think you got it wrong. I have driving a soul for 3 years and actually it feels perfect at hwy speeds... 120 m/h passing trucks and it feels perfec. cheers!
I have the same car, the same color. I love it, very roomy inside but at the same time very compact outside. My favorite part is car stereo, great quality, great beats!!!
Do you use the speaker lights with the music? I get a real kick outta that feature. :) I didn't know about it until after having the car for a few days either. lol oops
was looking to buy 2015 Kia soul from exterior...took one look inside and loved the interior too.....great on gas and spacious for a hatchback...the engines a little louder but I guess it is supposed to be "sporty"...I enjoy it anyways
Would love to get your take of this car (the Soul) vs. the Civic once you have it. Especially Dave's take on the Soul in the handling on the freeway. I feel pretty secure with our '12 Civic on the freeway, but I know that the Soul sits higher, etc.
Are you guys driving the same car I drive..? This car gets great mileage.. I get 34mpg on the highway. I stay a steady 60 mph. and rarely get under 34 mpg... round town a few miles less as more stop and start..I have never gotten under 30 mpg in this car. The room inside is amazing.. and it hugs the road..All the bells and whistles.. It even has strobe lights that change colors at nite as you drive.. Read what Ess Sleeter says, He's done his homework. The 10 year warranty is the best overal.
just brought home 2days ago a soul 2013 CPO after seeing all the reviews, and compared with scion xB and nissan cube. it works for ME based on (1) budget (2) safety (3) practicality. been seeing many of these on the roads so asked few owners too. the feedback's been great so far. bottom line : price is very reasonable for the (pretty good) materials quality.
Yup, just bought a 2013 Soul Exclaim myself about a week ago. It is the coolest little car I have ever owned. I have read Consumer Reports, watched many RU-vid videos and heard from other drivers too. All of which have nothing but rave reviews. Yes, they do have, in their size range, some of the safest features in the market. I bought mine with a little over 40,000 miles on it at the sticker price of about $12000.
I don't understand the market segment for a car like this. This past summer I bought a 1 year used 2012 GTI with DSG transmission for $21,000. The Soul shown here is 23 grand! Granted the stock GTI is moderately fast(0-60 in about 6.3 sec) and blows the Soul out of the water in terms of handling. I still spent about 2 grand on tune, exhaust, and some really good summer tires and now the car has almost 280hp to the wheels and 320ib/ft of torque and STILL GET BETTER GAS MILEAGE THAN THE SOUL?!
I have a 2013 Base stick shift around 29 to 33 miles per gallon have the small engine. I love it is simple cheap and works. No power no problem is to take me from point A to B. I had a Cor rolla and before that a Civic I like to keep my cars for 11 to 12 years and put over 200k miles I think this KIA has to go in 3 years or it will break down lol
ugh....After viewing this I am still confused!! I own a photo booth business and need a car with some cargo space SUV ish to carry things around, I was considering this car or a Jeep Patriot =) What would you suggest?
cont.... o and you really can't throw the practicality argument at me either since my car is a hatchback. GTIs are quite practical. Amazing rear hatch space, foldable rear seats etc. O and I can go 400 miles in between pumps and get to 60 mph in 5 seconds... Only down side is I have to use 93 oct. gas.
It`s so funny , you know when you guys sit in the front row together while he is driving, you guys are like stick together- shoulder next to the shoulder. the space is that small inside... lolzzzzzz thanks for proving that!
NO WAY! They musta been leaning together for the camera! My wife and I have LOTZA elbow room. We both commented on that aspect of the video and said the same thing....Whoa!
cont... This is where it just doesn't make sense. My car is faster, handles better, has better build quality, has better mileage yet it costs the same as a fully loaded KIA Soul!?!? I'm just curious Soul owner... What made you want to buy this car when there are so many other BETTER options in the same price segment? I know many do not care about how fast their car goes but no one should ignore how a car handles. Remember, a great handling car is a safe car.
Ita great looking car, powerful, lots of options and not expensive at all.....Scion Xb has no comparison against this car,I own one(same color and trim level) posted a video about the car on RU-vid
Ugly? Was that really called for not everyone had the same taste/liking as you do. That's very unprofessional. That's one thing I like about Kyle from saabkyle04 on RU-vid he doesn't say he's personal thought of the car like if he thinks its "ugly" or if he thinks its the car everyone should be driving he just makes a very well organized video about them
Loooovvveeeee this car,i owe one for about 1 year already and its been nothing but just good to me,great on gas,fun to drive, funky and cool!!.......hello!!,speakers light up,how cool can you get...lol,have a video on it in my channel ;)
Absolute False Representation of this Car.. Two Adults have more than Adequate Elbow room.. and then some and then some more... having owned an SUV before this car.. there is no difference in space for driver and passangers. both front and back seat drivers...
can you explain why those cars are built for luxury, performance and handleing also there way up in the 50+ range. This is a small engine,ok fuel economy and luxary is not what it is. Im not trying to be rude but why would you pick this overs ,other than you actually dont own those cars and your getting old.
I find these quite funky, and I like the look of them! What's UGLY though, and very badly designed, is the Chevy HHR. My grandmother owns one, and I cringe every time I get in that thing!
I'm a fan of boxy car and coming from an art student, this car shape is just plain ugly and has no coolness factor. The XB maybe ugly to some people too but the XB can look cool if it's souped up right and has that coolness factor. Name branding is part of people's decision in buying a car and "KIA" is the band kids in high school.
LOLOLOL my MK6 GTI with a stage two tune has almost 300 hp and 317Ib/ft of torque yet has better gas mileage with (around 28 mpg mixed) than this piece of crap car. Why would anyone buy this car?
