watched this video on my Fold3. The only reason i felt like getting a folding phone was a good idea was because ive been hyped for folding displays for years, and because i have a history of being really gentle with my phones in the past. if you have a history of dropping phones, cracked glass and whatnot, a folding phone is a terrible idea for you. but being able to carry around a small folding tablet in your pocket is probably the most cyberpunk thing you can do.
@@falcy2889 how old is he i will suggest if you are of this budget then go with s22. Since it will give 4 yrs. of Android update + 5 yrs. Security patches. So yeah this is my suggestion 🙂.
As a repair technician, I approve of this video! Thank you for taking the time and showing us how to repair these phones. Personally, I think Samsung made these simply to show how ahead of the curb they are. I don’t see these lasting more than a year or two.
The first version was a piece of sh*t! My screen broke within a month and they refuse to fix it!! My second version has been amazing! I've had it 6 months and it is still perfect! Heck if you could replace the broken screen I could sell it and make back my money!
Foldables are too cutting edge for what they're worth right now. Unless if display tech evolves to the point that resilient, self-healing OLEDs are a thing, I'd pass on this for now.
They’re pretty cool but definitely not for your average consumer. You have to take care of these phones, and with parts costing $700+ tax and labour, it’s quite the gamble. Of course samsung does offer a discounted replacement for your first repair.
It's not as much the OLED, it's the material used for the screen. Right now it's plastic because, well what else is bendable and transparent? And as we can see, a tiny layer of glass under the plastic really isn't enough to change anything, in fact it might have just made the issue worse as now it can crack. Only special meta materials can really solve these issues, but meta materials require atom bases precision to produce so don't expect it for decades to really take off.
@@ethanol1586 the best thing is that everyone criticised Samsung for making foldable but now that they've seen that foldable are actually useful, every other phone company is trying to make their own foldable.
@@jusalii I don't worry tho, say tomorrow it breaks due to it folding, samsung will fix it and I have multiple backup phones as I don't trade old phones in
I'm a somewhat new tech. I've been a small engine mechanic for years and years but my disability has progressed much. I can't do that career so I started working doing cellphone and other electronics repair. Your videos teach, inspire and motivate me to keep going. I love my new skill set and career. Thank you for your videos. Please keep up the good work
I bought the first-gen Z Flip in 2019 (not even the 5G revision oof) and it still works perfectly. A good screen protector is a must though, and I wish I knew that sooner. Screen is pretty dang scratched up.
Foldables have the same lifespan as any other phone. There's a construction youtuber that's been using the original fold since release with no issue lol. Love how people drop their phones or jam their thumbs into the displays expecting stuff not to take a hit. month 8 with my razr, not a scratch
@@zethloveless7238 luckily, very few phones use foldable glass. Motorola, Huawei, some of Samsung, Xiaomi and others use plastic which is never gonna crack. Even then, 90% of foldable glass cracks are the user's fault.
Shoot. I just picked up a flip3 for $550 used. It still has the warranty and will trade + promo when the flip 4 comes out. I agree with a previous comment. I would trade these every 1-2 years. BUT there is another YT video of a flip3 doing 500K folds with no problem. Crazy.....
Personally, I don't have any issues with the durability. I have the Z flip 3 since the release. I don't have a single scratch on my phone. Samsung really upgraded the durability of the foldables. The only problem is still the price of the z fold 3. But that's my experience. Maybe because I don't treat my phone like shit. But still good video.
Been working in phone repair for about 5 years now. Got the z flip 3 in November of last year. The novelty were off pretty quick. The battery life is terrible.
I don't care what anyone says, a phone with a thin plastic screen that can get scratched by your fingernail, has a crease in the middle, has a flipping mechanism which increases overall points of failures and huge repair cost makes this one of the worst phones in the world in my book. The 2 things keeping foldables afloat is the novelty and huge amounts of post purchase rationalizations.
I have S10+ replacing the front glass is 250€ (because it is the display and frame in a mabule). I don't think that is cheap at all either. Back glass is like 90€ with work, about same also is battery. Idk if the screen is due to the curvature and or the under the screen US-fp-reader
I look forward to the day when robust foldable screen technology leads to screens with pressable virtual buttons that rise up and are tactile. So that you can hold it firmly like a feature phone with physical buttons, while enjoying the flexibility of a smartphone but without worrying about accidentally activating things.
In Italia the z flip in ebay is its very very With dirt cheap, you can buy the same z-flip one for 350 euros on eBay or z-flip 2 for 450 euros, because Italy has ninety in a hundred iPhone users and ten in a hundred Samsung users, but only versions of it, and because I have a Samsung company, its carrier. If you have a bank card, you can take z flip Every month they withdraw 60 euros from a bank for a period of four months, calculating it, and six months fold 2
Foldables are just a gimmick. If you ask me AR is the future in terms of where we need to head and focus on with technology going forward. There's only so much you can do with a smartphone before it loses its luster and even becomes less efficient.
I mean it's a interesting design with definitely good points, that we would definitely consider as essential if we were not used to dealing with those problems. If they released this in the very first iterations of the smartphones this would be the default Omho.
So my review of the Flip 3 after 6 months: - Battery sucks 🙄 - screen shows cracks - Hinge will not go fully open anymore (banana phone) - a lot of connection problems with wifi and mobile data - camera quality is not the best
I had a Flip 3 for about 5 months, always with a case, paying attention where I put it, etc, when two deep scratches appeared in the crease and then a white hole in the crease (all pixels were white/backlight colored). I thought okay that sucks but it's Samsung, I'm sure they'll do it properly. In Benelux the normal procedure is to let it be picked up and you get it back in 3 days. So I do it and they declare my phone not repairable right after they got it. I ask what's next, they say they'll send me an "offer" for a replacement and I'll get a brand new Flip within 2-3 weeks (so about a month after it broke). I said wait what but what do I do without a phone? They said not their problem. Still waiting for the alternative "offer", I've been ghosted already for about 2 weeks. I don't know if the customer service is better in the US or Asia but this is simply inexcusable.
Some other hapless dude on the forums sent his phone in for a screen protector replacement and he got the exact same treatment, he got a brand new phone 3-4 weeks after sending it in lol
Hello repair guru please make a videos on galaxy mobile. I have a z flip it can be turn on only when charger is connected. I tried to replace the battery but the problem seems not with the battery. And i have no idea what to do next i repair my own phones for i got motivated by you. Please help me🙏🏼🙏🏼
Im almost like vagu curious what you could do with like a shell for one of these in like regards to maybe putting a different set of internals in it and like superglueing it into the open position. I mean its a stupid idea yes cause at that rate just go buy a normal phone, but it would be funny.
That's the problem with every samsung flagship phone Even the display of an S7 edge costs about 15k rupees (233 cad) With less thn half of the cost i can the same phone second hand fully working
It is so cool that phone has no part that sterilize to another part, you can transfer motherboard from one phone to another , without dealing with face ID, screen, battery, camera and other annoing error messages like in IPHONE
@@Mong_Man yes, each part is serialized with the own motherboard in apple... If you change the battery, you have to re-programm it and change some battery parts...
Was really really interesting to watch this video, always love when you repair other phones, really love watching when you repair iPhones because as I’m watching those videos I feel like maybe I too could do it but then when I look at my iPhone, I know that I probably should damn well not be the person tinkering with the insides 😬. Another great video from U Phone Repair Guru !!!!! 💕 Lots of love and support from Winnipeg,Manitoba,Canada (PS; I have a couple devices that I need repaired lol an iPad 7th gen, and an iPhone 7) 💕 😃
If you want to try repairing one of your devices yourself, definitely do not go with the iPad. iPads are extremely difficult to repair if you don't have a good idea of what you are doing. Older iPhones, like the 7, are much more forgiving.
I have this same model and it came with a 2 year samsung care + Last year I splashed by accident a ton of water on it and got soaked, it stopped working properly (screen would do weird things) and they repaired it That said it didnt cost me 2k I like the phone but I do know that a lot of people have no idea how to take care of it and they mess with the screen protector the first month, the screen protector gets air in the middle and they proceed to complain that their screen broke within a week because they were treating it with the same not having care as they did with their old flip phones With care and knowing how to use it I think is a really cool phone to have and the 2 year samsung care + makes up for how expensive it is to get it repaired
Have a Flip3 and did a very light drop. After that, the area where the fold is turned into a black blotch. It has a case and protective films. This phone is VERY fragile and the repair costs are crazy. Asked for a quotes from different places: $400+ - $600. Might as well buy a new phone. The phone is 4 months old.
i bought my z flip 4 as a treat to myself, 6 months later 1 small drop (after 3 other small drops) the hinge was hit and my top screen doesnt work and dead pixels becoming larger only on the top screen, I am having a hard time finding someone to fix it EVEN WITH MY WARRENTY because it wont open flat...turns out that not opening flat after a hinge breaking is common and I dont want to make it a loss so im debating paying for a third party repair
I had the Z fold 2 and Z fold 3 when they came out, I loved them both, after using my z fold 2 for 1 year, I have zero scratches. So far on the z fold 3 too, only problem is the battery that really doesn't last.. I recommend it if you change your phone every year, with the resale of the old phone + Promo code you generally lose less than 20% of its initial value. Btw nice video
Bro that’s my biggest issue with android as a whole is the battery otherwise it’s definitely better than iPhone the iPhone just does better with battery but then with iPhone you can’t emulate certain systems like 3ds
*yet* But how's it going though? I hope its still fine since it does still wow me 3 years later. Cool concept! (I own a S21 and I'm personally happy with a boring slab)
I bought one of those open box from best buy for pretty cheap and loved it, ended up trading It in for the newer version for as much as I paid at best buy for it, the newer version is much more durable, the screen is harder so it actually feels like glass and not like a crappy screen protector
I have a Samsung galaxy z flip 3.. I love it.. Hope you have a chance to look at the improvements they made since the first one.. Fan from Vancouver Island 👍
I will soon! This was just the one that I got sent. I'm sure they've made great improvements but I personally would probably break this within a few months. Samsung does offer a discounted screen replacement for the first repair but after that you're screwed. All I'm saying is its still a little too early.
@@smasheduptoaster9186 the only thing that can break in this phone is the back glass while the front screen is made of plastic so the chances of the screen breaking are very low
When you were booting it up and it wasn't powering on I was nervous 😆 This was awesome! Although I use Samsung as a daily driver.. it sucks that buying a 2nd Z Flip to repair the Z Flip was the cheapest option 🙃 BTW.. I don't see the point in a phone that flips open. But it's a sweet concept. Awesome video!!! Loved it
The concept is because it’s “cool” I’m not sure how old you are but back in the what late 90’s early 2000’s when you first saw flip phones, you were cool if you had one. (Unless you had a Nokia at which point people feared your power) I remember the Razor having the button on the side to flip it and it was just really cool at the time.
@@mike64411 interesting take- I catch your drift. With the price tag I do not feel like trying the technology for the price. I've always been on a Galaxy Note since the 8. Will probably switch to iPhone- cost of OEM Android parts are going insane. Too expensive to repair
Thank you for showing this phone. Someone told me it was the best phone, which you just showed it is obviously Not. You just saved me a bunch of money and aggravation.
This is the Z Flip 2 the 3 is much more durable I personally have the Z Fold 3 and I am loving it, my screen hasn't had any issues and I have dropped this phone alot. But I guess I'm not a good source for durable phones because I've never broken any of my phones screens and I've dropped them alot I'm pretty lucky with not breaking phones that's why I got this one and trust I'm not gonna damage it.
@@chrikke there's a flip, flip 5g and flip 3. The flip 5g is almost the same as the regular flip but with a better processor and an updated design. They decided to call it the 3 to have it be in line with the fold series
opening and closing the flip like hundreds of times a day (not realistic) would still mean you could use it for like 10 years. The durability has gotten good enough in the recent versions and it even costs the same as a new iPhone (1000 USD) so there's really no reason to avoid the flip if you already used to buy new iPhones unless you're broke or something
I never cared much for foldable phones except for their gimmick value. This video taught me what blacklisted phones are (actually never heard of them before), how I can open my S20 Ultra (never buy a flagship, it's not worth it. This one is my first and last), and how a Z Flip looks from the inside, aswell as teaching me about problems in its design in more detail than most other RU-vidrs. Great video! Thank you for the educational content!
buying flagships is worth it, just not right after launch. according to some statistics (can't link them, don't know where i learned about it), an average Android flagship gets 20% cheaper after the first year of being on the market. combine that with how samsung gives you 4 years of android updates and 5 years of security updates, and you're good to go.
I have the z flip 3. I feel it's the first foldable that is worth it. Have had it for 6 months now with no issues so far. Aldo am not been a android user for long ether. My daily driver before this was an iPhone 11. It amazes me at how far android has come since the early days.
I love my z flip3. It's way more durable, water resistant, has a much more useful external screen and wasn't that expensive. Mine was $700 brand new from my carrier.
