This guy is correct. I have tried everything on my accord to no avail for a couple years now. The oil consumption has begun to increase. Now I have to check and add a quart weekly. This will foul the catalytic which has begun to shoot me the CE light and turn off and on giving me the code for a bad catalytic. Cats for my accord run from 1500 to 2500 installed. Honda really is screwing with their reputation. I will not buy another Honda again.

This is really bad for them they need to step up and fix the issue and recall on this oil consumption and the catalytic issue every single honda that comes to me is a problem

Using thicker oil is just a bandaid for oil consumption, plus poor advice. We always use the oil viscosity that the owners manual says. 95% of vehicles on the road today have low drag aka low tension piston rings. Better fuel economy but at a cost of oil consumption. Plus faulty oil control rings. Older vehicles had and use high tension piston rings, they seal better but those types of vehicles get far less fuel economy.

Bull shit man honda said my 2013 honda accord which burns oil, said i missed the mileage allowed have 70k on it, they said 65k max to do the piston rings. Its their fault plus they knew about it and tried to lie and act like nothing was wrong!!!! No more Honda for me

Today’s engine are more likely to burn oil than older engines, because automaker put smaller and low friction piston oil ring to reduce a little bit the fuel consumption (Because less friction on the cylinder wall = less resistance and better fuel economy). If a car owner neglect to make oil change at the correct interval, those tiny low friction oil piston rings will clog up and the engine starts to burn oil. I had a Buick 3800 Supercharged in the past, 200 000km and that engine never ever burnt a tear of oil... Those older engine were better built than the crappy plastic parts engine we have today...

4:40 $50 in California lol my girls Accord is burning oil and I followed the PCV valve instructions in your previous video, and I think you (recall) & CarCareNut Ahmed (change ever 5,000 miles, 10,000 will damage the cylinder walls) is right.

I changed the PVC valve and it (2017 I4 2.4L sport) continued burning oil, I was also using ECO mode. I Recently stopped using ECO mode, been driving awhile/drove round trip from Orange County to Vegas (500 miles) and no oil burning. Another RU-vidr mentioned his Honda stopped burning oil once he stopped ECO mode. Gas mileage is the same if you keep the fuel economy trying (around speedometer) in the green.

What about changing the viscosity of the oil from 0-20 to 5-20? I spoke to the dealer and they said my 60k accord needs a ring job for 8K. my 2014 accord isn't worth 5K. i think the Honda engineers designed the engine wrong and is using the consumers as guiney pigs. Honda was caught with a design flaw law suite on the 2005 Honda Odyssey engines which used the VCM system and caused the engine to burn oil prematurely; front engine mount failures. So Honda extended the warranty to allow customers to get a free ring job. The trick was to turn off the VCM via a resister. That solved the engine oil burning problem to extend the life of the engine at the expense of lower gas mileage. Gas mileage went down from 27 to 21 mpg.

My theory on this is that you should not be following the manufacturers recommendation on oil change intervals. You should be doing your oil changes every 5000 miles and due to the extended services. It is also causing this issue. Also, I’m not trying to side with the dealership but more than the dealership. It is the manufacturer that is at fault. The dealership can only do what the manufacturer allows them in order to get something covered under warranty change your oil, more frequently from the beginning.

I'd never switch from regular oil to synthetic oil after regular oil been used for lots of miles, I believe it super cleans and unseats the piston rings causing blow by also.
@MrCuckoobox
@MrCuckoobox 2 года назад
I hear you and you have a point. And it was true that if you have an older engine and you have been using Conventional, you should NOT Switch. But now it is almost impossible to do. If you look at the oil that is being sold - "Conventional" Oil is no longer sold. I do not know if this just a "Marketing Ploy" or it is actually true. The "Lower End Oils" are now "Synthetic Blends" which "would" be Synthetic and Convention Oils blended. I am sure, one can split hairs here. But in reality, with the "Blend" you are still putting Synthetic in your engine. And it is pretty much accepted if an engine has a leak (internal or external) putting Synthetic in after using Conventional Oil it will make it worse - which is your point and I believe to be true. But at this point in time all one can do is use the "Blended" if you have been using "Conventional" Oil.
@salsuginusrex5196

You can't unseat piston rings without pulling the piston out of the engine.
@EricVonZipper
@EricVonZipper Год назад
I use full synthetics since my first turbo in late 80's. My conventional oil engines were in good shape, synthetics caused no problems for me. After the turbos were gone, I still use full synthetics, no problems. If you engine is dirty due to lack of oil changes, if sludge is preventing a leak, synthetics have a better detergent package, so ya, it will slowly clean out the sludge and bad seals or gaskets will leak.
@salsuginusrex5196

Castrol GTX is NOT a high-performance oil, and it is NOT used in racing, except by people that want to replace engines. The Castrol GTX claim to fame is low "viscosity and thermal breakdown;" i.e., they formulate/additize the oil with the particular goal in mind of reducing volatility. It's great at that, for a conventional oil, so much so that it beats many cheaper synthetics on that measure. But it certainly isn't a high-performance oil.
