Nikki was John’s placeholder girlfriend. Fun, respectable, attractive, but not someone he wanted a family with for whatever reason. Men know who they want to marry & when. I agree with this. I think John didn't feel certain with Nikki that's why he didn't want to jump for her with kids and marriage. Also I doubt Nikki was an angel towards John. After about 7 or so years of dating and Nikki pleading John to marry her, he finally proposed to her! After doing some soul searching and realizing that John only proposed and agreed to have kids with her to shut her up, she decided to end things off with him so she can find someone who truly loves her.
