Simplicity and cost it's just cheaper to run a 12 valve. We've done a couple now and would love to do another! A ppumped 24 valve would be cool too but it would cost a lot more money is all.

The thing about is people will say man that’s a lot of money , you could just have put a used common rail back in, well they are right but the end of the day the cost to maintain and the reliability is not comparable, and I still run a common rail so just saying the truth....

I drive a 6.7 common rail in a 2007.5 3/4 ton, the engine has 1 mill 325 thousand only had to replace injectors once. Maybe I am just lucky my engine must have been built on a Wednesday. I enjoy the videos just don't understand the hating on the common rail. Granted just my experience not general knowledge.
@CPSteveMiller
@CPSteveMiller 2 года назад
I don't hate the commonrail. They just won't do what a 12 valve will. I've driven in the 10s of thousands of miles on waste oil. That's free miles. Can't do that in a commonrail. You also need to run an ELD as a commercial vehicle. Those are my 2 biggest reasons right now for liking the older engine. I hate electronic logs. That white truck I bought had a low mileage engine in it and the injectors melted cylinder 5. Completely stock engine. 130,000 miles. I had 2 6.7's with engine failures. One dropped a valve just out of warranty and the other had a wee bit of water in fuel and welded the number 6 piston to the block

I’m sure your going to run the wire from the third brake light under the headliner around the rear window out the bottom of the cab, then up to the lights. It seems like it would be easier to use the wiring that came with the lights so you don’t run so much power thru the dash switch. You could use the dash switch to trigger the relay and control the lights. I hope your not going to just run a wire out the side of the third brake light to those pods

When you dont have parts to work on things you move on to the next thing on the list or another project that you have parts for... Now for putting them light pods on that switch I dont think that switch can handle both pod lights with out burning or melting the switch or wires.. Dont quote me on that as I have not tried that.. This is just my ideas on this part...

Just Curious, why would you want to put an older heavy, gutless 12 valve into a newer truck. It would be like putting a carburetor on a C7 LS Corvette. The technology is what is so awesome about it. For that P-pump 12 valve to make the kind of power the Common Rail makes, you would have turn up the pump. But then that's smokes more, smells more, and sounds like a trash truck coming down the street. Nothing wrong with a 12 valve, but so is neither a 24 valve, common rail. What happened to the hotshoting. Fuel prices scared you that much. Thats weak. My dad has a dedicated route, from Cali to Texas, and from Lousiana back. His fuel cost went up $900 dollars, per round trip. But guess he is toughing it out, like a man. And that's dealing with California regulations and taxes. No bitching, just hustling, GRINDING. That's all we know to do, is grind it out. By the way, as you can see, your 12 valve did not survive, they are not the "Holy Grail" of diesel. I know, I have bern fixing them for 22 years. They are like the 7.3's. "Indistructable", no gutless, can't make enough power to destroy itsrlf. Heck the 6.0 is way more superior. Good luck bro, hope it goes well.

12 valve is far from gutless. Mine pulls so much better than my Commonrail ever did. More power, better fuel mileage, etc. Mine doesn't smoke very much now that it's tuned properly. My Commonrail smoked like a freight train on the tow tune and broke a ring for no reason. 12 valve's can handle about 800 horse before requiring bottom end upgrades. Mine is a 330,000 mile engine that is forced to haul 17,000 pounds on the norm with a vgt turbo and a lot of fueling. It's doing very well for an engine that puts out 32psi of boost at 1600 rpms. Just because it has a little bit of blowby doesn't mean it is close to being done. On top of all that it lives on waste oil a lot of the time. I've ran it on coolant, atf, oil, gasoline, and many other garbage fluids. Still runs and does its' job every day. Do that in a 6.0 once. A 7.3 will do it but the 7.3 is a gutless engine if you keep the bottom end stock. They barely support 400hp. As for hotshot there's no point in running hotshot right now. Why would I go out and lose money? I'm making $95 an hour in a shop. My net in the shop is higher than my gross in hotshot. That's why I'm not running. I'm working on getting a 40ft flatbed. My Kaufman should be leaving early next week. Just because your definition of grinding is different than others doesn't make yours superior or "better". I'm still out here grinding every day. Best of luck, man. Just change that mindset. We're all doing what we can to survive and grow. Safe travels!

@CPSteveMiller
@CPSteveMiller 2 года назад
Price, paper logs on commercial vehicles, never have injector failures again, you can run waste oil instead of diesel, they get better mileage, etc. There's pros and cons to both. The commonrail gets expensive when it breaks. You can buy a used 12 valve for less than you can buy new injectors for a commonrail. It took me a weekend to do the swap when I did it on my truck. I also only paid 1500 for the engine. This one just had a bunch of missing stuff from the previous owner. It's sad that it would've saved him almost 3 grand had the previous owner not kept the parts he needed including the pcm.
@jasonwandzura6922

@CPSteveMiller
@CPSteveMiller 2 года назад
If you pay someone absolutely it costs more. In my case I slapped a motor in. Cost me 1500 bucks. The motor mounts I made from my welding table and the commonrail I sold made me 1500 bucks so it paid off the new engine. Definitely has saved me so much over the years. Running waste oil allowed me to run thousands of miles for free. It's definitely not for everybody though. This guy just happened to buy the truck with the engine already sitting in place

@@mrmotofy Right. Not a chance in hell will you get 500K out of a 12V with "minimal maintenance". I guess Steve's 12V must have been a lemon, since it's only been in his truck for 3 years and needs work? Nothing will last that long if you don't take care of it. I don't care what it is. I've had 2 Cummins ISX, one in a 2006 Volvo 670 and one in my 2018 Pete 587. I had to do an inframe at 450K miles on the Volvo, and that never missed a service. Ever.
