Elliot Smith was born to a man with one of the greatest hearts I've ever known. While certain governors wouldn't bat an eye, you took every measure possible to save that calf. He was loved every minute he was alive and not every animal gets that. RIP Elliot!

It’s really upsetting me so much at this beautiful calfI die . Die because you cut off his production of hormones ! you can’t do this to anyone particular such a small calf, he needs hormone to grown to his own size before you can do such a thing !!! you know you just kill him because of this careless stupidity. Do not do this to the other boy calf!!!Pleas educates U self. It just kills me to watch this beautiful boy calf suffered of wickedness and such a pain. I’m sorry I have to say that to you but it is true and this is the reality and consequences of it.

Morgan, I saw it in a comment on the last video, but I think its a good idea to keep some colostrum on hand and give each newborn calf a bottle full just to make sure they get it in case they miss their chance from mom.

I don't think Elliott went without. Cows produce colostrum for a few days after birth. It starts thick and slowly thins out, but it won't start thinning until it's been drunk. Since Elliott was the first calf, unless one of the adult cows drank first he definitely got it. (The first drink being the most important.) It's definitely good advice to have some on hand though, especially with there being multiple calves around you can't be 100% sure that the newborn got the first drink.

Oldie time farmers literally shared their homes with their animals living above the animal quarters. Maybe that was before Farm dog protection. 😊 or when losing their one or two animals meant starvation. Eliot gets the oldie traditions. Love your heart of hearts. ❤

Yeah dude! Have some compassion! If you watch Morgan you’ll see he’s always taking the best care of his animals and giving them a good life, even though they’re just a stake in the end! Very sorry to hear about baby Elliot. You did all you could. Sometimes farm animals just don’t make it. It’s a sad fact all farmers experience. Stay strong and carry on. Watching the healthy baby calves run around is good medicine.

It's the reality of farm life. We have to let go as much as we open up. Painful but isn't it better in a way that they finally had that peace we wished for them to have. The only thing we can do is to do our best to make things comfortable for them before they go.

After each calving season it would be good to check the udders of the cows; mastitis is a thing. "Bovine mastitis is a condition typified by the persistent and inflammatory reaction of the udder tissue due to either physical trauma or infections caused by microorganisms. It is a potentially fatal mammary gland infection."

RIP Elliot also, once the cattle go to pasture, you should look into getting a cemented into the ground cow brush for their winter area. Sorry to hear that Elliott did not survive but you made sure the life he had was as comfortable as possible. I think he also appreciated you made sure his last moments outside in the sun. Additionally you are a responsible farmer for waiting until you have all the results from Elliott's necropsy before sending the rest to pasture. You're doing what you can for the health of the herd. Totally understandable that you want to save Betty White for a Charlet Calf. Might I resubmit my suggestion of Bea Arthur or Blanche Devereux.

There are a lot of farmers who would not have done this for their animals so it’s really heartwarming to see a farmer care so deeply for his animals.
