Here are my thoughts on my Lotus Emira V6 after covering 2500 miles and visiting Milan Pagani, Ferrari and Firenze. On the way back to the UK we headed to a derestricted Autobahn, to see how the Emira behaved at 150mph+

I think I'd take this over a 911. It's smaller, it's more interesting and it looks more special to me. It also seems to be less compromised as a sports car. I doubt I'd miss the extra 911 practicality, even the roof rack capability.

That's right, the journalists are all top mates with the car manufacturers and shill out 5 star reviews for them whereas real people reviewing cars will tell you the truth. Journalists are just 3rd party marketing department. That's why they always give cars glowing reviews, then when they drive them a few years later as a used car or something they say how bad they are. Happens all the time.

@kaio37k

So true. Honestly, as a petrol-head from day one, I find automotive journalism to be a lot like political journalism... absolute rubbish, spoken by people who don't really have any idea what they're talking about, promoting someone else's product, repeating the same annoying, often times meaningless points made by someone else because they're incapable of producing their own thoughts. Harry is so different though, he LIVES with the cars, and gives honest, and fair reviews. He doesn't review a Fiat 500 and complain about its 0-60, or review an Ariel Atom and complain about luggage space... can't say the same about most other 'journalists'. Luckily, I think most manufacturers fully see this, I mean who else gets a limited-edition Bugatti Chiron to reviews for 1,000 miles lol Harry's the tip-top of this food chain as far as I'm concerned, no one else really comes close.

with respect Owen - it's not that difficult with the plethora of info on YT these days - but Yes, I understand that having Harry's experience could be an appeal. The only time I took my ol' Porsche around Europe I would get to a hotel of an evening - then search out wiggly roads around the area. This resulted in some epic memories, very hot brakes and ridiculously low MPG figures!! I used the same principle when I took out a Alfa Stelvio demo. Swindon to Brecon night one, then £40 fuel in the first three hours on the next morning (and that was at 2019 prices) . Don't give your power away to others
@ChipCabot
@ChipCabot 10 месяцев назад
@@CosmicSeeker69 With respect Graham - first hand knowledge of these roads is valuable as some of the "wiggly roads" are littered with potholes, bad tarmac, and other hazards that won't be shown on a map. Even with the wind noise, good engine and supercharger sounds in this video. I like how you can also see the mechanical action of the throttle linkage right behind the rear glass. It must feel very nice to have driven this brand-new car, gotten so much pleasure out of it, and at the end of the trip you don't have to return it to the manufacturer because it's all yours and not a press car like your usual videos. Harry, I hope that you will do another video on the Mille Miglia next summer, your video a few years back in the Alfa Spider was great. Thanks for this series of videos, well done! 👍

Although I've never been a huge Lotus fan, I'm really pleased that they've finally built a car that stands-up to the ubiquitous Porsche Cayman/Boxster; it's better looking, too. I suppose it says something about how far Lotus have come in terms of reliability when the only initially problems are sticky wipers and a fiddly key, although not having auto dimmable lights is unforgivable at this price point; overall, it makes you proud to be British.

Leonard Setright would of course agree with you about the benefit of an engine driven supercharger, rather than a turbo charger, because the former is a linear machine and the latter is a square law machine.

These are my favourite videos from Harry - love them! Regarding the Emira, fantastic value for money definitely but is it only me who wishes that there was a nicer tune from the 3.5l v6? They're not alone of course, the McLaren 570s with it's 3.8l v8 has the same 'problem'. Just for me, the sound of the car is a big part of the ownership experience. I have to admit though, the sound of the Emira sounds better from the outside than it seems to from inside the cab.

a lot of the sound is down to the latest EU drive by noise and emission regulations which are mandatory and nothing Lotus can do about.

There is a point in this video that stands out. After doing 2500 miles in a week in most cars most people wouldn't want to look at the car again for a while. When you immediately want to take it down your favourite road you know thats going to be a car you're going to love long term. I agree about the performance too. Its enough to have a lot of fun without numbers being the whole point of the car. I would genuinely take this over a 296 even if they were the same price. To me it looks better, its got a more fun level of performance and it seems generally more enjoyable on the road. None of the nonsense buttons all over the wheel, a better driving position. It even sounds better - more sonorous and less try-hard. This series has made me think very hard about putting a deposit down and after seeing this I just might.

Seems to be a cracking car with superb balance, it looks great and sounds interesting too, surely 400 BHP is enough. It appears you got approx 26 mpg on your road trip considering that included the running in period maybe a touch thirsty, perhaps it will improve with time, though I suspect it won't really, lol. A real success I'd say and a bit of a bargain.

Harry I have found your videos about the Emira inspirational and informative. After watching I purchased one in Shanghai/ China (the AMG but here it has 400hp and 480nm of torque). I selected the touring chassis after watching your show. Apparently, if all goes well I will receive it next week. Thanks for the videos.

Do you think the fully ladened car might be the reason for so little under-steer compared to the Press Cars or do you think that they just tweaked the the calibration that last little bit since the Press Launch? It looks so good inside and out. You spec’ed it so well! It almost makes other junior supercars seem rather superfluous, in true Lotus style!
