30 mpg out of the king coyote is just crazy. You got an engine that has gone 7s factory sealed but it can also get the mileage of a Kia soul. Incredible 🤙
I have had my DH Premium since April and LOVE the screens. I've owned a 96 GT and an 03 Cobra Terminator. I really enjoy being able to change the gauge clusters and they recently updated it with the 99-01 SVT Cobra cluster [which also happens to be the 03-04 cluster] and love it. The second screen provides PLENTY of visual landscape to finally make everything usable instead of a calculator screen.
Great review, Tommy, as always! I've always been a Mustang fan, nothing sounds like that 5.0 Coyote V8, what a great engine. But 30 MPG with 486 HP? WOW!

The 5.0 is a real gem, the 486 HP is just amazing. It's one of the very best automotive engines ever.
I bought a base GT grabber blue in 2023 for $40k. It was just as the 2024 was coming out, and I hated the interior screens and some of the exterior design, so I got one of the last new S550s. It’s an awesome car, does what I want it to do, which is be a fast, comfortable cruiser.
Twice in the video you recommend skipping the "big brakes" yet at 12:13, in a non-controlled test admittedly, it looks like the Dark Horse stopped a good 25-40 feet shorter than your base GT w/o the performance brakes. That is not insignificant, and even at more normal speeds a few feet or inches could make the difference in avoiding a collision. The performance brakes are a separate option and seem like a valid choice by way of safety to consider. (Acknowledging that quicker braking may increase the risk of the guy behind you not reacting fast enough...can't have everything.) 😀
Enjoyed the review Tommy and Case. As always, your straight to the points you want to make, no razzle dazzle or wasted time. I appreciate that in your videos.
This country is in a sad state where $42,000 was the cheapest mustang and next year it’s going up another 12 grand it’s no longer going to be the economical affordable fun sports car but something that you’re gonna have to be pretty well off to own.
Hey Tommy, how about doing a video teaching all the TFL staff how to drive a manual transmission I think that video would be a success. We need to start teaching this young generation so we could still have manual transmission option on sports cars.
Hey TFL, I wish you kept this Mustang for at least a year or 12,000 miles, just to see if any other issues come up, especially being a new design. I know a lot of the chassis is carry over, but still like to see how it does over a longer period of time. Sorry to see it go, I am Happy Ford still has a great V8 Mustang. It will be a sad day when the Mustang becomes electric or a four cylinder hybrid. Also, Great job to Ford for offering a powerful V8 that can get 30 miles per gallon on a trip, that ten speed really seems to finally be tuned in with the engine well.
I was thinking the same thing, that a "long term test" is probably 10-12k miles and/or 12-18 months of use. Ashame. I am sure there is a cost/benefit calc involved for the RU-vid auto channels i.e. the review value of keeping the car around longer versus flipping the asset before it depreciates too much.
Great mileage. A few more MPG than my 6.2 2SS Camaro. But DO NOT waste your money on the exhaust. You'll put it in track mode and never change it. If you don't want to be loud keep your foot off the floor. Bought it on my Camaro and it hasn't been out of track mode since it drove off the lot.
I have a base Gt I only added a sway bar and it made a huge difference around corners. Base is louder inside than a premium. Everyday or main car get a premium. 2nd car or weekend car get the base. I can fit camping chairs in the back and full fishing poles.
the interior was the top reason. I was surprised I get so many nice car hell yeah and what year is that every time I drive. I mean every time and it just a base.
I if buying a new car would prefer one without all the extra gadgets. Only features I need are heat and AC, cruise control, large seats, and a real shifter not a dial or tap shifter. Either in a full size sedan or crossover. The extra gadgets are something else to go wrong and a way for them to spy on you one way or another.
Other than the 2 wide screen monitors this would be a great cruiser. 18 in. rubber is better so it doesn't kill the ride quality. 19 and 20 in. rims are meant for the track not the street.
I’ll stick to my 2022 S550 I like that interior way more than the new one, also the plastic greyish shit at the back bumper is ugly as h*ll. By the way I have driven almost 500 miles on a tank and I have the 5.0.
FlowDisaster? Really? The hollow and cheap sounding exhaust manufacturer? Know what, you're right! There is nothing that sounds quite like flowdumpster. Cars with that brand exhaust are always very distinct, I can always accurately pick them out when I hear a muscle car that sounds like distinct trash!
We love our 2022 Mustang. We purchased it with the four cylinder eco-boost, but as a convertible. It's a great summer driving enjoyment. BTW.... The 2022 dashboard is a lot better looking!
Had a 2020 GT with the Performance Pack, MagneRide and 10 speed automatic. I can vouch that it was a legit corner carver in the north GA, NC, TN and VA mountain roads!
You need to drive a real sports car if you think a Mustang is a corner carver lol. I’ve had PP GTs and they suck in the corners. The only Mustang that can handle with anything is the GT350
@@OceanicMaestro 😂 why would he lie? Mustang sucks ass on corners. The only mustang that’s decent is the pp2 but that’s because it have 305 front tires to save it from under steering.
I have drove both Mustang and Cameros. My 18 SS Is my forever car! And you’re right about ride quality, the Camero is built on GMs Alfa platform. As for cheap interiors and rattles, the Mustang has always been lacking from a quality standpoint. One more fun fact, go to your local Ford dealership and see how many of the mechanics drive Mustangs. Not a whole lot as you will see.

The Mustang has a cheap looking interior compared to a Camaro? That's funny.
When I had a '19 gt premium, it was a really good daily driver. Easily high 20mpg on road trips and low 20mpg daily. Once the new car market cools down, you'll find huge discounts on these.
I, for one, am not tired of looking at this Mustang. I'm still baffled by the two screens in the base models. It's the same information. Doesn't it cost more to make two screen enclosures instead of one?
The interior does not bother me , I had an 05 GT. The screens are horrendous! Why can’t they integrate them better? They look like somebody JBWelded them on the dash . One of the reasons , there were a few , I had to let it go after about Ten years, was a bad left knee, and the clutch in traffic was getting to be too much, if it had been an automatic I might not have let it go. But it certainly didn’t get that good of gas mileage 😂
It’s hilarious how reviewers complain about the interior, but at the same time complain about price tag, you get the cheap you get cheap buddy common sense
They complain because the cheap interior on a “cheap” car is is not the same. If the mustang was $25k, the cheap interior would be fine. But $47k and you get the cheap interior. That is what the complaint is about
The exterior of this generation of Mustang is by far the worst in Mustang’s history. This car should have been Mustang’s high water mark. It is likely to be the very last gasoline-powered Mustang, the last Mustang with an available manual transmission, truly the end of an era and Ford phoned its design in. I will never forgive them for that. I’ve loved Mustangs since I was a kid, have owned a 65 coupe with a 289, a 68 coupe with a 289 and an 88 X-Florida Highway Patrol LX 5.0 SSP and I have absolutely 0 interest in owning the current Mustang.
If you are trying to sell it, probably not a good idea to talk about drag racing it incessantly. And a $42,000 GT is not going to have a premium interior when the Average price of a new vehicle is close to $50,000.
@@mowcowbell I had no idea.. I grew up in California, and I’ve lived in Texas, Nevada, and now Georgia, and I’ve never seen 85 octane before. Interesting how the elevation affects things. 👍🏼
30 MPG is very unrealistic. 21-23 is what you should expect with daily driving the GT, and if you happen to live in a very flat area you could realistically see upwards of 25.
TFL could get more good content if they added a supercharger to this Mustang. Particularly if they detailed the installation and costs, then ran it up against more expensive vehicles. I will miss it.
Who the heck are talking too that thinks a Mustang is the size of a GR86??? Mustangs and Camaros are everywhere, so people know what size they are. Mustangs have never been that small, except for maybe the Mustang II. You're audience here are car people, and know they're cars. So if you're talking about non car people, they wouldn't know what a GR86 is anyway.
Its so sad seeing all these people in the comments saying the auto is better because its faster. The death of the drivers car must be studied. Nobody lives on track or street races their car everyday, so being the fastest does not matter. Only if you care about being able to say your 0-60 time is this. Its about the driving experience, the base gt auto feels so soulless. Its about the driving experience, how connected you are to the vehicle.
At 12:25 you were talking about price. The first new vehicle I bought was a '74 Ford Courier in '75. It cost $3,300. For a two year loan at $104 a month. Times were better back then. 🤑🤔 Now 🤔🤢🤮😭
They're not Jay Leno bud. Nobody can afford to keep cars for 10 years reviewing them on a RU-vid channel. Not unless they start with a bunch of money in the first place
The biggest issue with this car is that it didn't really improve on the performance numbers or handling from the 550. The digital dash is fun but is that really worth the upgrade if you have a S550? I like it but still prefer my gen 6 camaro with tremec/ head up display but to each their own. Thankful Ford didn't kill the Mustang like Chevy did ;(
It might be time to send the videographers to driver training so they can learn how to drive stick. Every time there is an option to get a manual you guys get the automatic and say that some of the people on the TFL team can't drive a manual. Your job is to review cars, trucks, and motorbikes so to give viewers a proper review you must include manual transmission vehicles. I learned to drive a manual transmission truck when I was in elementary school so it isn't difficult. To get my driver's license I took a driver training course with "Young Drivers" and decided to choose a manual transmission car so they could show me the proper way to drive a manual. I was even shown that you can shift gears without touching the gas pedal. The most important thing I learned was clutch control. Learning from a professional is better than learning from a friend or relative that might teach you some bad driving habits.
@DV-ou1yu Not everyone on the planet. But if your job is to review cars and trucks, then it is part of your job. It doesn't matter if you are in front of the camera or behind it. If you don't choose to buy or review a manual transmission vehicle because some of the people on the staff didn't bother to learn how to shift gears and operate a clutch then you're not giving your viewers a full review of all the options available. If they reviewed boats but didn't leave the dock because the videographers can't swim, that would be a horrible boat review. They recently bought an old analog army truck that would have been perfect with a manual, but once again had to get an automatic transmission because some people can't operate a vehicle with 3 pedals.
@@aerynlovell4754 I get what you're saying, but look at it like this....more people on the team drive automatics than manual so why not go the direction that increases the overall efficiency of the company and maintains team morale. Just because they review cars doesn't mean they are obligated to test manuals. Although you feel owed as a viewer, you don't pay their salary. Alsk that boat-swimming analogy is pretty bad as it doesn't refer to operating a boat in general at all. Lol Not trying being a smart ass, just pointing it out.
@DV-ou1yu The point of the boat analogy is that you can't review how the boat works when it is at the dock. I have seen countless videos on RU-vid that are car/truck reviews that take place in a parking lot. Many of these "reviews" are nothing more than starting the vehicle, quoting the stats that you can get from the manufacturer's website, flipping switches, and opening & closing doors. I don't feel that the guys at TFL owe me anything. But if they don't want to compare the pros and cons of the manual transmission vs the automatic on a particular model of vehicle then it's not a proper "impartial" review.
I always enjoy laughing at these ridiculous UTube videos whether intentional or otherwise. Let's buy the cheapest V8 mustang we can find and then complain about the interior because we didn't want to pay for the premium package. Then complain about the 10 speed auto after beating everything else on the road that has a manual. Thanks for the laughs, truly entertaining. And no, I'm not going to buy a car from the dealership that paid you to post this commercial.
If you’re saying fun is more important than the extra performance parts, that sounds like the perfect argument for the manual transmission. The money you save on skipping the automatic would pay for the, just for fun, switchable exhaust.
I like the base. It’s a mustang. A muscle car. Seeing a luxurious interior in one of those is kind of weird to me. Like a poser kid in high school trying to be something they aren’t
Exactly. Premium in a Mustang isn't Premium to the rest of the world, it just means slightly less cheapo and better audio to drown out the rattles that pop up after 3 months.
@19hundoc47 here's another way to look at it, some just prefer less hassle with autos. You can still control the gears so at least that part is still available
