In this video I give an update to the 1995 GMC Suburban that I've been working on for what seems like forever. I started this quest with the intent to refresh the steering and suspension system so I would likely not have to worry about them for a very long time. Unfortunately, for me, this work took much longer than anticipated. There were some shipping delays which didn't help but overall it was really just the size of the job that got me.
Now though, the job is done and the truck is aligned. Ready for the road. I hope you all enjoyed this build process and videos that were filmed along the way. This truck is by no means 'done' and will most likely be a forever project but it is fun!!
I do love these GMT400 trucks and plan to always have at least one in my garage. There are still plans for more fixing and modifying but for now at least I can enjoy it a bit.

Thats the cleanest 27 year old truck ive seen. Nice work and glad to see someone else who would rather keep a gem like this alive instead of getting in debt for a new truck.

Always think twice when the aftermarket claims better than 4 floors of GM Engineers and the longest-running model in US History (fans, shocks, lift kit, ......). Rule one: Bring it back to Factory New and then evaluate that before adding Billy Bob's go fast thingy.....

I always tell everyone that same thing. If you want to get even more crazy think about how much it would cost to turn an older truck into a desert runner style truck vs how much you can buy a Raptor or TRX for. Seriously probably costs less for the new well engineered vehicle.
@joewilber5833
@joewilber5833 Год назад
This is not always true. Manufactures are restrained by cost they need to make a whole vehicle fit a price point. They cut corners for profit. After market doesn’t need to do that

Hey Jimmy, I liked your video. Good sound advice. I had a '95 Silverado that I bought used. Due to the nature of my work, I would travel across America 4 times a year. Once a year, on my birthday month, I'd put it in the shop to fix, replace, & flush all fluids. This would cost about $1K a Yr, but it was worth it. Here's what I learned the hard way. Keep your truck stock. If you put custom parts on it & they break, you'll pay a custom price to get it fixed. The engineers who built the truck get paid more & are smarter than me & they know what the truck can/can not do. I drove the truck in 49 states & 2 foreign countries. Go to junkyards to pick & pull your parts. If you change tire sizes, recal. your speedometer. Thanks for sharing, Keep the shiny side up. Drive safe. 🤠

I have a GMT-400, a 1993 K3500, 1 ton diesel. I use it to tow cars (I'm a used car dealer, and the nearest auction to me is about 190 miles away, so about 380 miles round trip per car that I source). When I got it, I did pretty a similar work over as shown in the channel. Suspension & Steering (Ball Joints, Control Arm Bushings [Kept the actual control arms], Tie Rods, Gear Box, Idler Arm, Pitman Arm, Shock, Struts, etc... Brakes (Everything replaced except for the brake pedal, so from the booster all the way to the rotors & drums)... And all fluids. Holding up decent enough. With 190 horsepower, I won't win any races with a loaded trailer behind me, but even with 111F degree heat, it didn't break a sweat, even with the A/C on and a trailer weighing in at 8,500.

What I am doing on my '94 Suburban K2500, is keep most things stock, then add modern things to make new cars feel shame. Currently I installed a 15.6" touch screen, which fit perfect with 88-94 square dashboard. And on the screen, I can have map, music player, real-time weather, and ECU data(in future) at the same screen. For future, I will add rear camera, (or maybe 4-way camera system), backup radar, and other cool stuffs.

I'm the original owner of a '95 Chevy 4WD Suburban with only 157k miles. I do have a RC lift and yes, the ride is, well, rough. In the process now of swapping out the RC shocks for a set of Bilsteins as soon as the weather in Texas cools off. I take good care of the vehicle which is why it has lasted so long. And I sure don't have $80-$90k laying around for a new vehicle. Style-wise, its still a very good looking truck. Mine is used mainly for photography road trip outings and sleeping when I don't use a tent. Went with 33" tires, taught myself how to weld, and fabricated a new rear bumper with a swing arm to mount the spare (the 33" tire took up too much valuable interior space). Also repainted with raptor liner so the truck should last me many more years.

I applaud you for your honesty to your self and us. Many a times people do modifications that are costly, then when it isn't quite right or what they expected. They rationalize their selves into the idea that it obviously is better because they spent X amount of $$$$$. I spent $1300 on KW V1's for my car. While I can dial in ride height, and it does truly handle better. I gave up a whole lot of ride compliance. While the suspension does its job well, I couldn't help but think, " Man, should I have spent more and got adjustable rebound. Or just went with a cheaper brand with?" Looking back was it worth the money? For what I got, honestly no. A car that rides harsher, but has a little crisper steering. I most likely could have gone a cheaper route and got better results without the name brand bragging rights.

I guess you will end up keeping it with you forever. it's 95, still TBI system, not powerful, but reliable, diagnose and repair is simple, easy and cheap. 4:18 "this is no rock crawler, it's a suburban". Yup, totally agree. I've spent 2 years, and 30k miles on my '94 K2500. I drive it coast to coast with a car hauler and a Tundra(probably over 8klb over all) towing behind. 2 weeks, 3 snow storms, 8k miles, 2 oil changes. It's basiclly a semi tractor of SUV. It CAN TOW, and it can camping. In my opinion, unless you have 5th wheel towing and oversize hauling or other requirements that need to be accomplished by open bed, Suburban is better than a truck, especially when it's a 3/4 ton heavy suburban. My list for improving my Suburban, besides small things (more like gadgets) I've mentioned before, I will also try to utilize its roof and frame space with 100-200w solar charging system, 2-5kwh Li-ion battery pack, 2kw inverter, 2kw APU(make from portable generator), and light duty welder, air compressor, tool boxes, spare parts, make it not only a camping vehicle, but also a mobile supporting base vehicle for an offroad camping fleet.

Check out the Roadhouse roundhouse kick by Jimmy! You uh….rip anybody’s throat out lately? Lol. Ok so my To do list items are all almost here. Got new headlight and taillight lenses. New grille. All aluminum racing radiator. And power tow mirrors. Just waiting for a new power brake booster. But alas I’ve come to a point where I must take two steps back. I had installed cheap 3” suspension spacers in the front and rear. The height is perfect….but the front tires are cambered like a Honda. I’ve tried adjustable camber bolts. No luck. So now I’m thinking of removing all of the spacers and wait til later on to do a 3” body lift. What do you guys think? How did you guys overcome your camber issues? My truck is a ‘99 c1500 Burban. Yeah I’m lifting a 2wd. Not for off-roading (obviously) but purely for cosmetic appearance.
