I didnt do even half of that for my dot exam. I got my ears an throat looked at. Got my bp an heart rate, they checked my urine, and eyes. My kneck was measured talked about how i sleep cause im 6”2 280lbs but i sleep like a rock the only thing wakes me up is me drooling😩 lmao. I didnt get my knee nocked on. Didnt do a push and pull test or leg test. My guess is she didnt want to be thrown around the room🤣 my legs and arms, even though i hardly use them, id definitely throw her across the room if she told me to push as hard as i could🤷♂️🤣
I was working on a forklift and in a freezer then I took my physical and passed with good bp, good hearing and vision. Then my doc said the government seems to be leaning toward not allowing CDLs past 70. Also he was looking at me weird and asked the same question twice. I wanted to punch him for that but he was looking for high drivers. I only use my class A once in a while and it's mostly out of boredom. But take your tests, get it done. Pass your BP vision hearing and don't be colorblind. You'll be fine. Get er done. I ain't near 70 yet but I know an 80 year old who hauls apples with doubles and he gets along fine. Depends on the driver I suppose.
Taking dot physicals for 30 years. The doctor never does half of what you did. It’s a nurse that does the majority of it. They use a blood pressure machine which I don’t like.
I do not know why they still have the wisper test, the DOT got sued over that and a federal judge ruled it was discrimination and they had to approve like 40 deaf people. I hear some truckers have problems with the wisper test and I find it completely useless.
If a driver doesn’t pass the whisper test they can still pass this exam with specialized hearing testing. The whisper test just makes it easier on the driver by not making them automatically jump through this hoop.
don't know if this is for the acting or not, but don't they require a gown to be worn and isn't there a genital exam during physicals as well as other tests?
I love those, Im so temped to whisper my answers back, I'd whisper something to the nurse like "your husband is gay but it's okay, it's with a 🐴 horse, but you have to whisper so that their mind tries to hear it but only picks up bits. 😷
My Right eye was scratch by my small dog that left a small scare but only have Half the vision like a grey shadow facing my nose but i see fine on the right half of my eye and my left eye is perfect will this stop me from passing the exam?
I'm insulin dependent i have been turned away from 2 companies is it possible to drive being insulin dependent? A1c is 7.0. I'm working hard to get it down to 5.5 so maybe I can get off insulin.
Excellent video very informative! I have a question based on two dislocated disc in my lower back and I've taken pain meds for it. Would that automatically disqualify me? Thanks
It depends on the medication and the effects the medication has on you. If your medication makes you tired it can be disqualifying (even if it's legally prescribed). The FMSCA says anything that will make you lose consciousness or cause you to fall asleep is disqualifying. Suboxone if legally prescribed isn't disqualifying but methadone is because of the medication side effects of causing loss of consciousness and hallucinations. Neurontin isn't disqualifying when prescribed legally but it's always good to have a doctor's note saying the patient is tolerating the medications.
We would be able to tell if blood sugars are not under control via the urinalysis (sugar in the urine). We would not be asking for blood so we wouldn't know you are diabetic if numbers are controlled. Of course my recommendation has to be to disclose all pertinent medical information on your intake paperwork.
We require a letter from your doctor only if you are taking meds for these conditions. Otherwise, it would be handled in a case by case basis. See my video on clearance letters.
Hello doctor, I have a big problem with physical exams because of white coat sindrom if its called like that. I work as a Yardmaster in my country for 15 years, have my medical exams because of work sertificate every year and always have high BP going to from 80/130 to 90/140 that's highest peak, and BPMs sometimes going to 120 but when I tell that to doctors thay understand. Every other test is ok. I function normaly and have no problems outside the medical clinics exept during the tests. My question is because I work in USA every year on H2B visa on season works if I decide to take CDL DOT exam would I pass if I tell of this condition to examiner?? Best of luck to you and much apreciated!!
I will usually take blood pressure several times during the exam for exactly this reason. Just let the doctor know that you are nervous and they should accommodate you.
Medical examiners are allowed to check the blood pressure up to 3 times. We are ONLY allowed to do the test in the seated position. So a medical examiner may lay you down for 15 minutes and then come into the office, sit you up and check you. Medical examiners are supposed average the 3 checks. So if you get 145/93, 138/89, and 135/88 then the average of all 3 is 139/90. This number should be written down and recorded on the FMCSA paperwork along with the other numbers. While performing a resting blood pressure check the medical examiner should hold the patients arm at heart level to get a more accurate blood pressure reading.
Not automatically. If in my clinic I would want a note from your doctor as to why you have it. If it is deemed safe for you to drive then you should be ok.
Doing my DOT physical this morning. I’ve done this 5X already, 46yrs old in September, exercise 5-6 days a week, HARD, and am I n better physical condition than most 25yr olds. Tell me why I am nervous 😂.. Thanks for this video. I feel alot better now
It's important to remember to bring all medical paperwork to support your ability to drive. Go to the heart doctor you see and them to write you a short letter explaining the meds you're on and how with the meds they believe you are able to perform all functions of your work even with the heart failure. This will help you pass....at least for up to a year at a time.
I have an autoimmune disease that's manageable with biologics and stretching/exercise. It mainly affects my back and it has limited some range of mobility. Would this disqualify me?
I would be interested in the medications. Do they work? What side effects? I would check your horizontal field of vision if you had a hard time turning your neck. Normal neck range of motion is 80-90 degree on both sides. Right being more important than your left. Mirrors on the trucks. The FMCSA is very concern about drivers who can't hear and have issues passing out or falling asleep or vision issues.
Wow that was a great explanation and example however if you decide that someone is unable to drive then now you have taken away the livelihood of a man or woman who possibly needs to take care of their families I think it's absolutely ridiculous that this exam even exist.
99% fof the time drivers aren't disqualified from driving forever. Most just need to be checked and treated before we can pass them. It's important to understand that. If you have high blood pressure (HTN) all we need is to know you saw an MD for the HTN (medical note) and have meds (medical note) that work to control it and then you can pass the CDL physical after a re-exam. This can often happen in a just a few days. People act like we stolen their jobs and livelihoods. Not true. In reality, the driver is often times ignoring the serious signs and symptoms of various medical issues. Sleep apnea, diabetes, heart problems, high blood pressure, kidney disease, etc. We find these issues before there's any serious repercussions.
If this is done in the same clinic then no: Technically one part of the sample must be in a very specific urine collection cup (specific drug testing cup) and must be the correct internal temperature and up to a measured line. The CDL urine specimen should be in a different cup and there doesn't have to be as much in that cup. Less of a sample is needed to test for blood sugar protein and specific gravity.
I wanted to get my cdl but I’m scared they won’t pass I was born with a lazy eye and I didn’t get to join the military cause of it. I went to the eye doctor and they did say I should pass and that they will do a wavier if need be. Just nervous don’t want another dream job destroyed.
Please watch my vision exam video. The FMCSA has very specific standards for vision. If you pass the vision portion of the exam you should not have a problem with a lazy eye. At the end of the day, however, this is all up to the discretion of the doctor performing the exam.
@@EasyDOTPhysicals so if I don’t pass just a sliver of the eye test due to my lazy eye I will not get my cdl. Cause it’s blurry but I can still see objects in it and if I have a eye doctor say he will sign me a waiver. I just want to be a truck drive local I’m a yard driver right now and I don’t have any issues backing up a trailer and driving it.
And thank you for answering my questions I really do appreciate and I hope just because a slightly blurry eye doesn’t smash another dream of mine to become a local truck driver.
@@bubblezgonecrazy The standards for the vision component are set by the FMCSA. There is a waiver program you can ask about if you do not pass however.
I have a question, after an injury in my hip, a plate was installed on the bone, and the knee does not have full bending amplitude (approximately 90 degrees). Otherwise, the leg works well, the nerves are intact. Could this be a barrier to getting a CDL? Thanks
they will not have access to your medical history but you could possibly have your certification revoked if it was found out that you were not honest during the exam.
@@EasyDOTPhysicals lastly, if i am on disability insurance for an injury out of work am i able to still pass a dot physical? Doc said i have lumbar radiculopathy/lumbargo, i have made great progress in recovering and feel like it should pose no threat in operating a CMV, should i mention im on disability?
@@HardcoreGangsta8 I would have to advise you to mention all medical conditions during the exam. The doctor doing the exam has to make the determination of if it is safe for you to drive.
Hello i have a question, i have MS and was going to study to get my cdls class A. Would it be a automatic fail because of it. I use to drive single axle Hydraulic brake dump trucks but wanted to get the cdl class A to drive tri axle dump trucks air brakes.
I think EVERYONE should have to take a physical for their jobs. that way, it puts everyone on the edge of you not being able to pay your bills or feed yourself and your family or make your rent or house payment ect ect. Could you imagine? Millions of Americans are obese 42%? How many would be homeless in 2 months, 120 million or more? Or hanging from a noose. Just imagine someone says you can't be a doctor for 30 days, no money coming in. and if your blood pressure isn't right when you come back, you won't be able to work at all in the medical field. "We're sorry, not really!!!, but Donalds is hiring", even though it's a fraction of what you were being paid, just start over. It's easy. we know you're 57 years old. You were making around 100 grand or more, but now it's gonna be 30 grand. You should be able to live the same. GOOD LUCK. "I've seen it happen" F'ing heart breaking... Wheres the nut hug part?? pull your pants down. So, a hernia can be detected.. weird, that's how mine goes or is it a little crunch for women and pants down for men. Would you like a witness in here? Yeah, more people, please invite the whole lobby in here.
Great video. I have a question for you. I shattered my talus April 2021, 10 pins and 2 plates. I walk fine if I wear any boots or shoes with good ankle support. Should I be worried about failing?
Thanks so much. In our office the standard would be that if it is safe for you to drive and you are able to perform the duties of a commercial driver then you should pass.
Hey Doc quick question. My license says I wear corrective lenses. I got my license at the age of 17 in FL. I moved to CT got my license changed over. The DMV made me do another eye exam, which I passed without wearing any contacts. Thing is my license still has it listed that I wear contacts. I haven’t worn contacts in over 20 years. Should I take my DOT without contacts or should I wear a pair? Appreciate the video it was very informative
If someone has a history of seizures but has been seizure free for 5 years with medications well under control, can they get a DOT medical card? Not looking for a CDL just a DOT medical card
@@EasyDOTPhysicals this ain’t a commercial driving job. I’m talking about a non dot physical I’m having to get for a laborer position and didn’t know if it’s the exact same thing with the BMI since I’m not gonna be driving a commercial vehicle I’m kind of worried about it tbh.
got it. the standards for a regular physical will not follow the DOT guidelines and will be up to the doctor performing the exam to determine fitness for duty.
@@EasyDOTPhysicals so just so I know I’m understanding correctly a non dot physical or when someone says there getting a non dot physical it’s basically just another saying and same thing as anyone getting a yearly physical?
The FMCSA doesn't recognize any body weight or neck size and doesn't have guidance or regulations on either. You, the driver, are allow to be as old, as fat, as you want to be as long as you are in good medical health. Being morbidly obese has it's downsides and will eventually take it's toll on your body. It's important to understand just because you are obese does not mean you have automatically have sleep apnea and or should be tested. Same goes for neck size. Medical examiners need to know because you have an 18" neck doesn't mean you have any other signs or symptoms of sleep apnea. The FMCSA suggests asking questions and looking for other telltale signs and symptoms before you send someone for sleep apnea testing. There are many sleep apnea companies out there hoping you send patient after patient to their facility to be tested and diagnosed. $$$$$$ I have sent hundreds of drivers for sleep testing and all of them had 5 or more risk factors for sleep apnea. Only about 25% of those drivers (with 5 + risk factors) ever come back having sleep apnea.
I got my dot medical card last year and im on suboxone and i gave them a letter from the prescribing doctor, i have to get my med card renewed, do you think i need another letter if im going to the same doctor?
Great video very informative! what are other test that are done ? is there any cat scans, ekg? Any actual brain scan/cognitive test, tedious tests like that or is it all pretty quick like the video ? Also would those just be unnecessary if you don’t have any pre existing conditions ?
Hey Doc , I had 3 shoulder surgeries, 1 on the left , 2 on the right . The right shoulder is pretty bad but I would definitely pass this particular exam that’s shown in this video (arm strength) but would I be disqualified because of my surgery history ?
Medical examiners care about your physical ability to perform the job. FMSCA mandates this examination as a fit-to-drive exam. Is the person able to drive? If you are having issues with the shoulder and are having trouble driving a truck, then getting s SPE is the only way to get you back to work. It takes quite months to get the SPE done. So don't be in a hurry. Once it is and you have all the paperwork bring it in to the medical examiner and they can pass you for at least a year.
I was told verbatim "you have sleep apnea but dont" after aseep study in the millitary my AHI was 6 and they said I don't need a CPAP so I never got one. Should I get on one before my DOT physical?? I'm scared I take this job and get sent home because I have to wait 30 days. Please help! 🙏🏾
If you report a history of sleep apnea the medical examiner is most likely going to require evidence that you comply with treatment (CPAP). If you can rule out that you have sleep apnea (get a sleep study performed) before you go in to get your physical that would likely help. Make sure you take in the report when you get your physical performed.
Sugar, blood, protein, and specific gravity. If any of this is out of order or doesn't look right it's an instant disqualifier. You will need to be checked and treated before you can pass. Short story: Patient has ALOT OF BLOOD in their urine. I can not pass them and tell them so. Everything else was good and he's 27yo. He goes to MD, MD diagnoses him with UTI, patient comes back taking the meds with the medical note from MD and I passed him for 2 years. He's being treated, he has a note, and retested his urine because I had to do a whole new re-exam and no blood in his urine. PASS
Hello… I am getting ready to open my own practice and will be adding CDL physicals. Could you please tell me where your exam table from???? Thanks and awesome video
One more thing i broke my wrist at work an had yo go out on comp when i was ready to come back to work the doc said if you cant do ten push ups you cant come back to work i did the 10 push ups to go back to work then the compay doc called workers comp to report 0 disability which canceled my comp claim am i bitter you bet
Question, I will be doing a dot test soon if I get this job I interviewed for. Will I have to wear a hospital gown while I’m there? Also, do they check for hernias? The only reason I ask is because I’m unfortunately crotching some clean urine because I have marijuana in my system. I know that sounds horrible but this job just sprung up and didn’t have time to get system clean. I’m in the clear if I do urinalysis first
I have lung sarcoidosis, it's well controlled, and i get a yearly lung function test. ( wich i have good lung function) my results say asthma. I can run, jump, and walk for miles. Will this be a disqualification? I currently drive a school bus, and the company does their own physicals... It's not a real dot one. I would like to eventually upgrade to a class A and do otr in the future.
