Unfortunately at time I couldn't vent my unit to the outside, that's one reason why I purchased an OTR convection microwave, I raised the cabinet all the way to the ceiling then installed it the correct way, luck for me the original electrical wire had extra length within the wall which allowed me to installed the OTRCM to the correct height.👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

well if inside the cabinet in top there is not vent to outside do not matter if you buy a hood vent. will not work. and if you house have a vent for the microwave inside the top cabinet you just need to connect that vent to the microwave. read your microwave manual

My galley is quite small. The only way I can fit Chef Mike in there is OTR.

I could care less about the air quality of the kitchen. I had a house one time with OTR microwave. I hated it because I can’t reach the microwave. Taking something hot out was risking live and limb. When I shop for a home, I don’t even want to see houses with this type of set up. I’d rather have no microwave than one that is dangerous for me to use.

So where am I supposed to put the microwave now? Sacrifice countertop space? That isnt an option. Buy a built in special order cabinet? Also not an option. Stick it on a little stand? That would look great for resale.

Three thoughts: 1.) You don't have to follow this tip. It's for people who want cleaner air. 2.) Who says you need a microwave? It's healthier to heat things stovetop. 3.) If you did stick the microwave on a stand, how would that hurt resale? Just remove the stand before showing the home.

Hi, Amanda! Every homeowner's needs are different. We get lots of emails about over-the-top microwaves, and our recommendation is to replace them. It's the best-case scenario because you don't want that air recirculating in your kitchen. But different strokes for different folks. Do you. :)

I think losing a cabinet next to the stove is going to be my plan. My builder put in an over the stove microwave with no outside vent. 😑 every time I use the cook top, my microwave above steams up, and cabinets get wet as well. This is not good.
