No it’s not because the boosters ruin it. Texas has money and facilities and in a great state for recruiting and an amazing brand. But the boosters scare off the good coach’s so they have to settle for guys like Sark or Strong who should only ever be an OC or DC and aren’t qualified for head coach. Also SEC has taken over Texas and now that Texas is in SEC it will get worse. Texas can’t win in the weak Big 12. They will get destroyed in the SEC. Be lucky to win 4 games a season.
when i didn't even speak English i picked longhorns during game because logo xD loved them for past 15 yrs and hearing this was amazing. hope they do well yrs to come.
Look. Texas v. Oklahoma is bar none the best rivalry in football. Michigan v. Ohio State, Alabama v. Auburn, Cowboys v. Redskins etc. They can't hold a candle to this rivalry. What other rivalry has two teams meet half way every year, during the Texas State Fair, and split the stadium exactly down the middle with crimson and orange? None. What other rivalry do you completely throw out any statistical analysis whatsoever to determine who might win? None. It's the Red River Rivalry folks. Get that Iron Bowl stuff out of here.
Aslan lol you joking right... Ohio State vs Michigan is by far the best rivalry in college football... Both teams pack in over 105,000 every single game. Our rivalry is older and came from a real WAR your two teams combined have 11 national championships my two teams combine for 19 more Heisman winners more NFL draft picks and more overall WINS!!! This past weekend should have proved that.. Nobody outside of your two states watches the Red River Rivalry the entire country watches ours... WHY because people HATE Alabama Ohio State Auburn and Michigan..When people say whats the best rivalry in collage football you guys are not even in the discussion for first place Ohio State vs Michigan or Alabama Vs Auburn are the rivalries people discuss...
I think that I must agree with this one. A true rivalry should be played on a neutral field like OU and Texas with the stands split 50-50. As an FSU fan, we have a great rivalry with a few schools, but the OU and Texas rivalry is truly more traditional.
As a Texas fan I agree and I would give Charlie strong one more year. He has recruited greatly and I think he need one more year and Florida is the only state to challenge in recruiting, don't give me the California bs
Enrique Ybarra maybe since I'm an Aggie fan I'm biased but I did think it was a little early to proclaim that Texas was back. Notre Dame is a good team but perennially overrated (as is the case yet again this year). I think Charlie is a good coach and one year and a few defensive recruits away from a powerhouse team. But it seems like he's fallen victim to the (misplaced or mistimed) hype. His identity is with the defense, and since they're not at the level of Bama or Ohio State, or even A&M, he doesn't have anything to rest his cap on. At least Will Muschamp when he was at Florida made one of the best defenses in the country that year. I think Texas has fallen a step behind a lot of the other schools it used to dominate in terms of in state recruiting. A&M, Houston, TCU, Baylor can all viably get a recruit they desire even when Texas offers.
Man, I think it would be short sighted to let Strong go at the end of this year. Next year is year I was expecting TX to make run. They are young in a lot of positions right now.
that Vince Young line is garbage. Texas had a stretch where they won 10+ games every year for about a decade. they went to Lincoln and beat Nebraska back when it was an accomplishment. won the Fiesta bowl with colt Mccoy
I'm in Texas and I would agree. There is a good argument there. The recruiting for the Longhorns has been poor since around 2010 or so. Many Texas recruits have left the state.
Louisiana has some talent but Texas' depth of talent blows Louisiana out of the water just by the population density of the state. You have to realize that there are 5-6 major texas universities the state feeds. The 2 Oklahoma schools. much of the SEC and Big 10 comes to Texas. Teams like Oregon and Bama (and LSU btw) are loaded with Texas talent.
DrWeeWe......You mean 'PETE THE CHEAT'.....I guess you can recruit when you hand a kid cash and a townhouse, and he doesn't even have to go to class to pass in school. LOL
Hum South Florida is the best recruiting area in the country. Just look the number of Nfl players from Dade County, it's insane. Go Canes by the way 🙌🏽
Florida's good. Behind Texas. Texas is #1 in every expert and analysts books. The problem with Florida is that their high school coaching is pathetic compared to the development Texas HS coaches bring. Best HS football in the country by a wide margin.
Babahoe_ You're delusional,Texas is known for having more recruits than any other state. If you don't know something that is a fact you need to keep opinion to yourself.
Tom Herman to Texas. It just makes sense. Charlie Strong is a great coach, just not a great recruiter. Herman was able to get a top 3 player nationally to come to Houston. Herman can get it done at Texas.
What I'm saying is Texas is arguably the best job in CF. And Texas has a ton of talent within the state. Charlie has had top 10, top 15 classes. Sure that's good. But is it great? no. Look what Urban Meyer is doing with Ohio St and look what Jim Harbaugh is doing with Michigan. Those guys are great recruiters.
I have to say California when it come to best Athlete in the country. I may be wrong but havn't Long Beach Poly high school produce more NFL athletes than any highschool in the country? If were talking about born and raised athletes within there state base on you comment I think California is at the top. Florida have produce more NFL players by only 6 more players. Florida at 193 Cali at 187. But top player in the NFL from Cali is Tom Brady I think there will be a good arguement based on preference and numbers by who make the best athletes in the country. Cali isn't really talked about cause we're not the south
Recruits only go so far. I don't think Strong understood how different the Big 12 was compared to the ACC. Keep in mind the big teams in the ACC right now are Clemson and Louisville. Strong's best years at Louisville didn't have Clemson on the schedule.
+jeoh93 Dude the state of Texas produce a lot of top high school players itself. Strong did 2 years alone with Mack Brown trash! Espeacialy that one sorry as Black QB they had, I forgot The brother name.
Texas should be in title hunt Every year with all the in-state talent ..they aren't ...it's not just Charlie Strong not producing ...they have more flash than anything
People think Alabama is OP wait till a top recruiter gets to Texas. It's too hard to keep the players in state so you get a lot of watered down programs like TCU, Baylor, Houston, Texas AnM, Oklahoma, Oklahoma St, and Texas.
As long as Texas remains in the big XII then there will always be top recruits that will want to leave to go to the premier conferences like the SEC and Big Ten East division.
Most of the military is comprised of service members from Texas and Ohio. And most service members would say they joined to get out of their state. What does that say about Texas and Ohio?
Florida Texas California are the best but ohio is 4th best top north of the missippi. Ohio dosnet have to compete with other Ohio schools for kids. Half of Michigan & Michigan state kids are far from Ohio. Texas has Texas a& m Baylor Texas tech and so many others to compete with & Oklahoma & state as well. Ohio dosnet have this problem. Florida has fl state Florida Miami lots of competion. Texas isn't consistent Bama is 1 Buckeyes 2 last decade But osu is the most consistent program since the 1930s
There is no one particular job that is the best. Texas is one of the elite jobs, but I would not say it is clearly the best. But definitely as good as any other.
I'm sure Alabama and Ohio State can pull just about any player over Texas. Any player. Conference is trash and their the 3rd best team in Texas. Haven't won anything in years. What makes that the best job?
It really is. I mean the potential has and always will be there. Not to mention the very cushy paycheck from the richest university in the country. If you are the right man for the job, it absolutely is one of the best places to be as a career in sports.
The Texas football network was the biggest enemy of the Longhorns. Houston is the largest recruiting area and they had only one weak FM radio station broadcasting the games there. You could not even hear it in most of the city. LSU had three radio stations broadcasting their games in Houston. LSU ripped Texas in recruiting. Tom Herman fixed that. He made sure they were on a strong AM station there like they were for the years before Charley Strong.
Why didn't Shannon Sharpe bring up Jimbo Fisher, the coach of FSU, because Florida State has had a top 5 recruiting class for the last four or five years. I know that Florida State isn't very good this year, especially their defense, but their still better than Texas.
its crazy how these sports shows talked about how bad of a job Miami was and before last year was over Mark Richt was named HC. keep on disrespecting that U, but sooner or later you'll be praising it again!
K. dot and klatt has the audacity to say miami isnt the flagship program in Florida? talk about miami hate lmao we're the equivalent to Texas and usc in their respective states
Dear Santa, please have the Longhorns hire Brett Venables, you don't have to bring those twins or that skeeter Bass boat. Venables and Santa bringing dignity back to the big 12 one coach at a time
If I was a football player, I would go to the school that gives me the best chance at winning, which is Alabama. I would also look at the school that gives me the best perks. I know they can't give things that cost money straight up but you're stupid if you think they don't circumvent those rules by hiring and overpaying some of your family members, offering you access to girls, luxurious facilities etc.
I disagree, I dont think anyone can help the longhorns...the damage has been done: nick saban via lsu and now alabama, urban meyer, ttu, baylor, tamu, tcu, ok state, ou, etc. thus the reason why they fired the great mack brown.
Mack Brown got fired because he couldn't keep his recruits in his state. Texas can easily bounce back because of the history, the faculties, the TV deal, the location- capital of Texas, and the brand. Texas football is iconic. And the big 12 is a winnable conference. there's no Ohio St or Alabama in the big 12.
+Matthew Crawford I sure do hope so...it feels like my childhood is gone. I remember the days of ricky williams, cedric benson, roy williams, and major appelwhite. Still got love for tamu though...
Matthew Crawford you sound uneducated Charlie strongs past two recruiting classes have been in the top ten plus this year Texas got a lot of Baylis players after signing day. Texas is coming I give them another year until they're dangerous
I think the Longhorns will be discouraged heading into this game because they have lost to two unranked teams and now have to face a ranked rival at the biggest stage of the UT program, The Red River Rivalry! I wish Swoopes can learn how to throw the ball and he'll be at least a hand-me-down VY lol This is not good but... 🤘Hook'em Horns🤘
The problem with Charlie Strong at Texas is that he does not know use or in better term utilize his player he's in Texas the Holy Mecca of football theres no excuse why he's doesn't have success absolutely no excuse
Texas can't get the top players??? I know this is old but now that we have Tom Herman we have 5/10 of the top recruits in Texas while A&M has 2 and BAMA 0 OSU 0 and we also have several 4 stars and a couple 5 star recruits
What top 10 NFL QB is from Texas? Just because you have great college talent that doesn't translate into NFL talent. Last time I checked Brady and Rodgers are from Cali, not Texas
Who cares? College ball has nothing to do with the NFL. And if you actually knew your facts, you'd realize half of the QBs in the NFL are from Texas. It's the best QB state by a wide margin. Citing a couple players like Brady and Rodgers is just that, a couple players. The NFL is boring and all about the money anyway, college is better in every facet of the game for real, knowledgeable fans. Unless you prefer the same thing on every team, the NFL sucks.
wctwctwctwct are you serious? College football is dogshit and I will never watch it because the defenses are absolutely horrendous. Every time a receiver catches a pass, there is not a single d back near him. NFL is the best of the best
SAS is more entertaining that's why first take is better. You forget sometimes that all they say is their opinions and this is a show not a news program so you got to entertaining too.
The Spurs and the UT women's basketball team are the only teams keeping Texas relevant Ias far as success in sports. The more notable names Dallas and Longhorns haven't done shit since the 90's and 2005 respectively. I'm going to start calling The UT Cowboys.
If texas was the best job they would have more than 1 national championship in the last 47 years (1970). The best job is the one where you can consistently win championships. Alabama has 8 national championships since 1970. More than any other school.
35 years,do you know basic math? You are right about Alabama though....they have been fantastic!!! Oklahoma fans still think they have more national championships than bama.their fans are delusional!!!! By the way Texas has won 4 national championships 1963,1969,1970,2005.
L Bednar yep and after losing to ou regardless of score record shows different. They should’ve let Charlie stay another year because it’s like he never left. Their either barely winning or barely losing to mediocre teams aka the big 12. They act like every other team in the big 12 is that much better than Texas when they all suck lol
And in 2005 they upset usc they didn’t beat them usc beat themselves. And all kids from California went to 3 straight national championships. Kids from Texas not Florida have done that. Most winning high shook footballs teams are from California. Universities with most national championships of all sport 1. UCLA 2. Stanford 3. USC lol
"There is no greater recruiting base" lol California and Florida would disagree. USC and any Florida job (Miami, UF, Florida State) is better than Texas.
Mack Brown missed on way better Qbs than Mayfield. JT Barrett wanted to be a Longhorn, as did Johnny Manziel, as did RG III, as well as Jameis Winston. All wanted to go to Texas. I also forgot Bryce Petty and a few others.
In 2005 Texas was running what Ohio St. basically runs under Meyer. The shotgun spread. Definitely was not pro style, in fact after the 2009 loss Mack Brown tried to switch to pro style because of the loss, which really hurt the program offensively. I mean, we lost our amazing QB, there was just no reason for it.
This line of thinking that Texas has the best players is why Texas will never win. You need to be creative and open up your eyes...states like PA and NJ have top talent, i.e.: Jabrel peppers- Michigan and Minka fitzpatrick- Alabama, both from NJ. Michigan and Alabama are better than Texas because they are willing to recruit the best players from any state.
This is not true. This USED to be true. This SHOULD be true. On paper this is theoretically accurate but actuality is a whole different story. Texas can no longer get those players like they had in 2005 to win the Natty. The reason being is that The SEC trumps the Big 12 coming and going. Kids are picking anyplace in the SEC over playing for Texas because Texas does not win anymore. They don't attract guys in numbers anymore. Without players you lose.
SEC so good cause all the talent go to like 3 schools. Literally everyone recruits from Texas. OU, OK St, Missouri, Nebraska, Texas A&M, UH, TCU, and Baylor. Those schools are. always top 25 ranked every year. If they decided to go to like just 3 schools they would dominate the SEC
According to the polls, witch I do not remember the article, it said that texas a&m makes up for 22% of the college fans in texas and 20% of the fans are longhorns... Texas a&m also has very nice and new facilities. the one thing texas has going for them is their history. oh and longhorns network is failing badly so I simply do not understand why people think the longhorns are so dominant. if I am wrong please correct me
Texas does not recruit the same way when A&M, Baylor, and TCU were all bad football schools in the state of Texas. The Vince Young of the city of Houston would rather go to Texas A&M or LSU than go to UT.
If you told me that last year I would have absolutely agreed with you. I have a feeling though, with the constant failings of both Baylor(not to mention scandals) and TCU, the hype of those schools are gone to a degree. A&M and Oklahoma will always get good recruits but it might be a little more slim pickings than previous years for them. Now that Herman is the head coach of Texas and has great recruiting skills and has great relationships and contacts with high schools all over Texas, expect a massive change in Texas's favor over the next few years. They are going to start siphoning off players that would usually go to some other schools.
Chris S. you nailed that right on point. I've seen Texas football and there facilities first hand and up close and not only are they gonna be the best in the country but Herman is gonna take back the state of Texas in recruiting and other parts of the country as well. Money 💰 talks and Texas has a ton of it more than any other college football team in the country. They will get the best talent in the country ahead of Bama, Ohio State and Michigan. Herman is already proving it right now and it will only get better when he starts going to BCS bowl games
Ugh, I never met or heard of an athlete at UT Austin. It's an ugly color as well, so it gets confusing when Austin has such a high cost of living compared to other locations in Texas.
Texas is a great job, but they have only one national championship since 1970 and have hired some bad head coaches like Mackovic and Strong, even Mack Brown was overrated. The people at the top need to make better choices, because great job or not, Longhorn football has become a joke on the field.
