Hairstylist here extensions only damage your hair if you don’t get them installed properly or you don’t properly take care of them! I’ve had extensions in my hair for years straight with no breaks and I’ve never experienced any damage to my natural hair. If anything it has allowed my natural hair to grow super long and healthy!!
Clip ins are fine as long as your not pulling at your natural hair🥰 if it feels uncomfortable it’s because it’s pulling. Just make sure you apply them carefully and take them out every night too
Plus the images shown would not be considered traction hair loss. Those are like breakage, which are totally different. You won’t be able to really see traction hair loss until it’s severe.
Yes and improper install impacts this! But the right extention method for your hair type installed properly shouldn't cause issues. I have extremely fine hair with nano bead extentions that are sectioned using triangles with lots of hair (all hair is vertical, never forced over and not too close to the scalp) so no hair is being pulled into the bead. I've been wearing them for 1 year, 4 months (with maintenance every 8 weeks) and my hair has grown almost 4 inches! The photo looks like a really bad install of k-tip extentions.. the hair is visibly being pulled and it is far to close to the root 😳
Agreed! I have weft extensions and have worn them for 1.5 years with no issues. I make sure to not go longer than 8 weeks between maintenance appts and my hair stylist does a complete reinstall every other service. With the reinstall the wefts are placed on slightly different sections of hair, which naturally gives the previous section a “break” from traction. I also think proper care at home needs to be factored in too. So many people get extensions and don’t take proper care with brushing daily and tying it up to sleep.
@@zzzzera I used to average about half an inch a year because of breakage from hot tools to try and make my hair look "better". I have had extentions for 1 year and 4 months to be exact so 4 inches is a huge stretch for me
@@natashaadamson353 it seems your hair can’t keep the length but is probably growing as normal due to brittle mids and ends, you should try k18, saved my hair and allowed me to keep changing hair color with minimal damage
Ive done hair extensions for 10 years and I have seen so many peoples hair damaged from traction alopecia. If you have them, make sure you have the correct method and the bonds should not be that close to the scalp.. so many terrible technicians out there. If you go to the right person however, they can be amazing.
There are several other forms of adding hair extensions. The extension method mentioned is only one of many. However, every aspect of the installation is important and can factor if it damages the wearer's hair. The install, the maintenance and the take down all play vital roles. Usually it is the wearer's error. They usually leave them in too long or take them down on their own. I was a DIYer in high school and messed hair up with every step of the process.
Yes girl same! I have a terrible habit of picking my spit ends and pulling on my hair too much and the extensions helped to deter that and my hair is growing starting better now!
Clips ins gave me bald spots. They’re not as safe as everyone says. I now wear halos or tape ins. I’ve heard a lot of crap about tapes but they seem to be gentle for me and no damage.
It’s actually a combination of frequent colour changes and heat styling, extensions don’t damage hair when done properly and maintained correctly at home and in salon. Guarantee they jump from salon to salon for a “colab” with who ever does it for free for them too
All stylists say they dont ruin your hair. I call bs. And when I spend $1500-2k and $550/600 per month--- you BET I'm taking care of them!!!!!! I'm 38. Started extensions age 16. Clip ins, tape in 1x, and then sewn in. I rarely gave my hair breaks, and now it's THIN.
It’s the combination of all of those wrong methods for your hair type. Clip ins and sew ins and you’re bleach blonde aswell? Tapes and keratin bonds are safest methods for fine or compromised hair
@@kelsykrueger7690 the struggle is real and once you start it’s so hard to stop. Ktips I’ve had no troubles but in the early days of tapes I had similar situation as yours, the adhesive was like superglue and just so chunky
I have a fine hair and not a lot of it, went for a invisible bead extensions and lost so much hair. Honestly for women with very fine hair texture it’s not a viable option.
Me it was ME!!! I stopped getting my hair done at her salon 6 months ago.. when I first started going there I had the longest healthiest hair!! I have maybe shoulder length hair now and I am struggling trying to bring it back to life! 😭😭 I have so much breakage that my hair looks like a mullet! I’m not joking..
I had keratin bonded hair extensions for 5 straight years. Never took them out, just added more. During that time my hair never grew at all. It was thin and damaged when I took them out.
Hello I have a quick question when I'm asleep and I wake up my hair gets very weird and it's kind of wavy and I have it mostly straight when I wake up all the time my hair gets really wavy and weird and I try to brush it but it just gets very frizzy if you have any advice please let me know thank you.
where I live it's much more humid/damp at night. my hair is always a mess in the morning because of it! not sure, but do you think that could be the reason?
@@cocobellatrainingacademy thank you I've tried that and it still doesn't work My hair is all curly and frizzy I don't really know what to do lol thank you for your suggestion
Not true, my niece wears extensions for like 2 years and it got thicker, it holds your hair so its doesnt falls out it has some benefits, but its not that bad AT ALL, its just your hair that is bad 🤣
One of the biggest issues w hair extensions is the length being installed. Having shoulder length hair, then applying extensions that go to your bootie is just begging for hair loss.
