The best bike you could buy for your money. Right now mt-09 is the best bike you can buy in this segment and no other manufacturer is offering such a good performance package. Good choice mate.
I was riding 600cc 4cyl and I wouldnt choose 4cyl for the city anymore, its suffering for the byke and rider….I ride in NYC and this new MT09 its just the best i already cross 800mil and after first service i could finally open throttle and its 🔥
Anyone who hasn't rode a triple whether its an mt09 or a speed triple really need a test ride, the low down power and torque is something else and when you jump back on an inline 4 do you realise the triple is a superb engine for real world riding.
Good choice bro. Can’t beat the value. Been wanting to test ride this one to see how how the transmission, quick shifter, and rider ergonomics have changed. Im glad Yamaha refined it even more!
Just watching the drive scenery is worth the watch really. The bike looks gorgeous ngl. I seem to be watching more and more of your videos. You keep reeling me in. Keep it safe and keep it slow. No need to get crazy on a bike. It's all about taking in the scenery. Nice.
Been considering the Cb/Cbr650r when they finally upgraded the dash, but after test riding the MT09sp 23 and they finally updated the front I would buy the 2024 in a heartbeat.
I've road dirtbikes my whole life but have been looking into getting a street bike. Last few years the SP has been my number 1 pick but anymore the base model MT-09 may be just right for me. The tech and safety settings alone is a huge for me so I don't go out there and hurt myself lol
MT07 is perfect. But the MT09 is better, due to more power and electronics. I had an mt07 before, loved that bike. I ride my buddies XSR900 and it is a sweet ride and got all the tech someone needs. But I just couldn’t buy it because I love a parallel twin sound, so I got the Triumph Speed Twin 1200. If it had a cruise control, it would be perfect. Heated grips are a must as well.
Great review Kurt, I have mine on order, should get it later this month. Just some advice for you, you really aught to ride on the blocker side of your lanes, just something that caught my eye. Stay safe!
I used to have a Fiat Spider in that color, kind of a seafoam green but with a touch of aqua mixed in. I think I saw it on some Bianchi bicycles a lot too.
Make sure you ride both... if you like performance and torque, you are really going to dig the 09. That's what I much preferred anyway. Looks? I wasn't very keen on the 09 at first but after you ride it, you start seeing it in a totally different light... then it starts to look badass and continues to really grow on you.
Nice choice! Wondering if you looked at Triumphs too - and did the maintenance schedules of the bike options also play a factor? Been wondering about Yamaha’s listed fuel injection/throttle body synchronization adjustment requirement at 4K mi intervals…
I've owned a 2022 Yamaha xsr900 and now I have a 2023 mt09sp. The CP3 is my favorite engine on sale. I love it so much. I can't think of a bike. More fun than an mt-09 or a Super Duke. I've been watching your channel for a long time, I'm so stoked to see a car RU-vidr ride!!! And to do it on what I consider one of the goat bikes for sure!
Solid choice, but I do find it curious that the Triumph Street triple didn't warrant consideration. If I got my history correct Triumph produced among the first mass-produced 3 cylinder motorcycles and the street triple of today popularized the segment to the point that the mt-09 probably wouldn't exist without its presence. Mt-09 is your choice for the slightest Edge in power and electronic aids. Street triple is your choice if you want the superior suspension and fit and finish. And yes I am the owner of an older street triple but I am also considering the mt-09's brother the xsr 900.
I tested the ST RS, really loved it and was going to buy it until I tested the 09 SP (23 model) The ST RS was better looking had a better finish, bit more premium with Stylemas etc but I found the 09 SP's torque to be what swayed me after testing it. ST RS 's more peaky power delivery better for track days while the 09's more torquey delivery suits the street more. Both are great bikes though... wish I could own both!
Because you have zero taste? Coming from a former MT-09 owner, yeah... Hilariously fugly design ever since the 3rd generation, it was canceled in record time because negative feedback, 4th generation looks like an Ali Express special - more fugly color schemes, still horrible stock suspension, budget everything, except the engine. Only the SP version would make sense with the Öhlins suspension, but the paintjob is simply unbearable.
Shame they gave it such a horrendous styling refresh. Looks like one of those 150cc scooters you see in Thailand and China now... the gen 1-3 had a mean supermoto look that was timeless but this... this is awful.
Great bike! Coming from a Grom, you are still in rain mode and keeping it bellow 6k.... I cant wait until you are over 600 miles and can properly open it up in mode1/2... its gonna really shock you . Please video that first time full throttle pull using the QS, it will make a great reaction vid. 😂 Make sure you hang on... but try and keep your arms loose because the front end gets a bit flighty otherwise.
Oh trust me this bike can scare you if you want it to. Ride twisty's in the power band on sport mode take off and you'll be wheelieing over every Hill. Lift control on this bike is absolutely incredible. It's basically wheelie assist if you want it to be. Just scoot back in the seat, smash the throttle in first gear and it will hold that wheelie all the way through first and then you can quick shift up into second. Wow! The wheel's in the air and at that point you'll be hitting a 75 mph wheelie. Every time I think I'm used to this bike, I pull that move and It makes me laugh hysterically like a hyena
I think you made a good choice. I didn't realize the MT09 got a refresh. That usb-c charger is gonna be clutch for when you get a chinese made phone holder (get the JOYROOM). I'm on a Tracer 7 but I'm 5'11 and 175lbs. I've ridden the MT07 and I thought the suspension was fine.
“Not gone past 7k rpm”: From my (positive) experience riding the 2020 SP for the last 36k fuss-free miles, I recommend to follow Yamaha’s instructions in the manual to brake in the CP3 engine for the first 600 miles (1st service) and then again for the next 400 miles before applying full throttle 😅✌️
The difference between rain mode and the rest of them is huge, I would like to see your face, the first time you will go to standard. Also try riding it a bit harder on the brake in, change gears and RPM it's a sport bike, riding it around 5k RPM is optimal for the main bearings etc. by riding it so down in the rev range your putting a lot more load on the engine.
I think you also would have loved an adventure bike ..like a Honda Transalp. You get a nice upright seating position, windscreen, cruise control, and easy on the highway. They seem perfect to me.
NO WAY.. I watch this channel for discovering new models of Toyota (im in sales for Yota in Canada) And I just got my 2024 MT-09 like two weeks ago. I never thought I would see a review of it here 🤣
The seat might not look as good as the 24 model but as a 23 owner who tested 24 model, its hella lot more comfortable. Also the 23 model had mounting points for bags where this new model does not which makes the 23 also sport tourer which i use it for.
Got a new 2021 MT07 as my first motorcycle, ~8900 miles on it today. I wanted a 100% analog bike as my first motorcycle personally as that is the approach I have taken with sports cars - didn't want a quickshifter/traction control/etc. I want to be able to go anywhere in the world, rent a motorcycle, and be comfortable riding it without relying on rider aids. I do want the MT09SP now (I track my 911 Turbo and M3, hence the SP) but it looks like I won't be able to find them here in Miami until much later this year - based on some Reddit threads, maybe September if I'm lucky. I'm 100% happy with the MT07, but I'm on the highway a bit with it and I wouldnt mind some more guts at the top end for a motorcycle that has basically the same dimensions and only +20lbs weight. I helped a friend buy a new Triumph Triple 660 here after he saw how much fun I was having with my bike - the Triumph is great and seems to be a more refined product, but I found my MT07 simply more FUN, so the 09SP is next. I also did NOT want a retro-styled motorcycle... for me the styling of the new 07/09 are exactly what I want. I have plenty of retro things my life, I didn't want the motorcycle to be one of them 👍
@@TrizerFlame the 2023 and 2024 are chalk and cheese, ride the 24 model and I guarantee you’ll buy one, it’s that good. My only complaint is why oh why did they fit rubber brake hoses and not braided like everyone else, the heated grips don’t look great either, but that’s a personal thing.
@@Darranna Ugh damn that's pretty much the end of the riding season unfortunately. When I put my deposit down in February they told me May. Guess September is more realistic then.
Another thing to mention Kirk at 1:10 -- with the key in and ignition "on" but the bike set to "off", the fan isn't really doing anything -- your water pump isn't active and flowing fluid through the radiator, so having the radiator fan is really just wasting your battery.
Great choice, Kirk! I've been a sub for years back before you rebranded your channel, loyal Toyota owner for 20+ years! I'm glad you got the 2024, it has pretty much every improvement I would've wanted over my current 2017 FZ09--slightly bigger/more powerful engine, back-slip regulator, cruise control, TFT screen, separate seat. ONLY thing I prefer on mine: the colour scheme (grey body/hi-vis yellow wheels). My suggestions: get new adjustable levers and a tail tidy. If you're doing longer distance rides on the highway, consider a windscreen that will reduce the buffeting (makes it less tiring). You are absolutely right, once you break that baby in and start pulling over 6-7K rpms, hold on tight and watch the smiles explode on your face!!!
Really good to see the perspective of someone who isn't a super-experienced rider and/or hooligan, to be honest. Full disclosure, I've been riding for multiple decades and have ridden many, many bikes in around 20 countries across three continents. I just bought a 2024 MT09 because my preferred style of riding has always been "rocket-powered BMX": I had a Duke 690 in Singapore and I've had an MT07 until recently. I didn't want anything bigger because I don't enjoy the inside of prison cells. I really think you'd have gotten on well with the MT07. Even more than the MT09, it's possible to ride slow and enjoy, but it's happiest being a clown. I think it would have been more than enough to keep you happy. I'm far from convinced that the MT09 is a safer bike than an MT07; the rider aids are there to save you from the extra gobs of power that the MT09 has, and I don't think you'd miss them on the MT07. Anyway, not knocking your choice, I made the same one. Happy riding!
lol the comment about being in your 20s... I agree. I'm 31 now, over the last 10 years I had 3 GSXRs and my last bike was a street bob. Street bob was comfortable but boring, and in my older age LOL, the super sports were starting to get really uncomfortable to ride for any period of time. Hard on the back and wrists. These naked bikes look like a good mix of super sport performance but a more upright and comfortable ride. Appreciate the video!
I thougt about the gsx8s but its only looks good when you take at lest the evo edition and then i can pay 1k more and have a mt09 24 now you can asume what i ordered
Loved this review! I found myself agreeing with so much of what you said. My previous bike was a 2006 CB600f which is what I learned on. I told myself I’d never really need to upgrade it UNTIL I saw the release of this one. I was sold immediately. This bike offers so much at such a great price point. I’d recommend it to anyone even new riders as long as they kept it in rain mode until they were confident enough to bump it up. If you’re undecided about exhausts still I’d recommend Kelpi Customs. I went with their stainless full system with the Flanker pipe. Couldn’t be happier with the sound! Cheers!
youtube compression curbstomped this video. had to watch it in 4k just to make it look like 720p. nice bike though! if i had the balls id get a MT-07, but i just dont trust people in cars not seeing me.
sorry, i meant the mt-03. id rather ring out all the power in a bike than have a bunch of extra headroom i can never use- much like a miata. groms on the other hand just look silly to me.
Yes, especially if you have some prior experience. Being a taller, heavier, stronger person will help too in handling it's weight. Rain mode is very chill. Almost too chill because it doesn't like to give you much throttle on takeoff.
@KirkKreifels i don't have priror experience but I'm going to driving school right now.. I also a pretty big guy, 182cm and 110kg. I think mt09 is better choice then mt07, it is stronger but also have a lot of safety features on 2024. Model
