So… nothing wrong with the Gladiator at all just preferences and a need for a full size truck. Gotcha! Gladiator is a much better purchase for me than a Wrangler simply for the bed (which saves cab space in overland/off-road adventures). It is still just as capable of not more due to its power and wheelbase. However longer it may be creating a little more struggle in rocky environments. The Gladiator nails every possible need into the wood for me and many others. I can see the seats being an area of concern. However there are plenty things you can change, and why purchase a Rubicon model if you have any intention to actually modify a vehicle or make it functional in the way you need it? Seems like a bad decision and it’s good you decided to get something different. If you had got the base model it would be well worth your money to have modified to fit your needs, except the tow capacity which does lack compared to a full sized truck.
The Gladiator is actually a decent vehicle. Don’t let hoovie scare you away. My grandpa bought one 1 year ago. He was 2 months away from retirement and wanted a vehicle that would “last him the next 25 years or so of his life”. He previously owned a 2004 chevy trailblazer “north face package” he bought for $42,000 brand new. Gladiator ownership, he puts 15,000 or so miles a year on it. He never off roads, just occasional gravel roads in southern indiana. He uses it to go camping, perfectly fine pulls a 3,000 pound tiny 10ft camper. He loves the many features. He keeps it in mint condition, he baby’s it for sure. Honestly over half the features he never uses, but it’s still “cool quirks” as doug demuro would say. I was “eh” on the purchase at first. I’m like hoovie, I love vehicles that are unique from 1985-2005. New vehicles? Not often my thing. But the Gladiator proved its point for me personally. FOR WHAT MY GRANDPA USE’S it for, it’s a perfect purchase. Hoovie? He bought a vehicle that wasn’t ment for what he needed it for. Not a bad vehicle, just wrong type of guy. That’s like saying a Dodge Dakota convertible would be bad for a lumber company. Why? simply because that’s not what it’s intended to do
Reliability wise, probably won't last 25 years. Jeep is notorious for being unreliable. Should have went with a 4 runner that would out live him and you
I have had great longevity with my jeeps and I purchased this as a retirement vehicle also. I love the personality and function. I have had a Ford F250 in the past, 4wd, and to compare mid size trucks to the full size is unfair. Yea it is more money, and honestly I got a cheap used Outland package with low mileage so most of the dislikes mentioned are void due to the deal I got. No midsized truck can compare. I intentionally went smaller for urban life. It is a fun car that can do pick up truck basics. I think it is a great truck.
They're not selling because they're too expensive. When you see the price, it just makes more sense to buy a regular pickup. Plus I don't see jeeps as work vehicles as much as just for fun.
I rented one of these. I liked it overall. Accepting that it is "light duty" 4WD as opposed to a Diesel Pick Up, with surprisingly good gas mileage, it is definitely on my list as a possible replacement vehicle :)
As I have a career in business and have been browsing my next vehicle I must say I didn’t care about the Jeep review. Instead, I focused on your attention to your working Colleague. That was a wonderful video to demonstrate more of what we need across the country- appreciation for those that work hard. That’s the most important message in this video - love it!
@@crispindry2815 FIXED IT! Thanks so much for pointing that out to me. This is what happens when I use words they never taught in my school. Granted, my country has 11 official languages and French is not even one of them! LOL
Haha, I mean, they are depreciated, some are Camry money, but they don't have Camry maintenance. The only one of his fleet I really could afford is the CL65, if I sold my current daily, and that's only because I've been able to work on and maintain a V12 Mercedes before! I hope he doesn't sell that one, it's a very unique and amazing car.
I agree with you on the seats. Especially the back seats. The a wrangler is not comfortable on long road trips. It’s a fun toy, but if you’re not using it for it’s intended purpose, it’s an awefull lot of money to spend just for the rugged looks.
I ❤ my Gladiator Rubicon!!! We own a farm and it's perfect for hauling and getting around old logging roads to check and repair fences. Plus parking is a piece of cake compared to a full size truck.
Really great to hear some Cons as well as pros. Love the comments about wind buffeting and fit for purpose (off road fit, towing feel).) How much did your jeep + trailer weigh? (Numbers are always useful.)
50k for a crappy truck. Uncomfortable, unreliable, underpowered. There’s literally tons of alternatives that are cheaper and better at everything. But if you want as close as you can get to a gladiator but much better would be the Tacoma Trd pro
So let me get this straight: you went from a luxury full size pick up to a bare bones mid size truck. One that's a limo in the inside and one that you can take apart like Lego. Wtf were you expecting? Like going from Bentley to Ford and you're complaining about it. 😆
I'm not talking about price when saying "bare bones". I'm not saying Rubicon is an off-road vehicle either. I'm saying that a full size (luxury) pickup has a lot of NON ELECTRONIC features that a jeep doesn't. Sound proofing for one. Comfortable ride for another. Better seating in the front, much better seating in the back, larger bed, bigger towing and payload, better wind drag...shall I go on?
I love that you did this! What a generous move. The Gladiator review is appreciated as well. When I first saw them, I had my doubts on it handling switchbacks such as the hairpin one in Ouray Pass.
What i noticed is: those who dont like the Gladiator really should have baught either a Wrangler or a Power Wagon. Mid-sized pickups ARE a compromize. Thats what the whole segment is.
'Every vehicle' is a compromise if you also factor initial cost, depreciation, and fuel economy. It just depends what your personal prioritizations are...
I can't tell you how much I appreciated seeing the Freddy's side of what you do. I have heard you mention it in passing, but this was great. Thank you again sir.
Have had a Wrangler JKU for years. Wanted a truck and the Gladiator was a solid option. After a test drive of the 21 Rubicon, I liked it, so I bought it. I don’t need, nor wanted a full size truck. My family takes the truck everywhere and the wife drives the Wrangler to work. My boys love trucks and Jeeps. My youngest calls the Gladiator the “monster truck Jeep”. My wife was more than willing to let the Pilot go for this truck, God love her. In the end, it’s just a vehicle but the memories are where it’s at for me, and I love it.
I drove a 2011 Jeep Wrangler Sport to 300 miles out of warranty. Then everything self destructed. 3 months and $3000 later nobody could sort the electrical gremlins out. Thank Gawd it behaved long enough to trade it in.
I’m so disappointed too, I’m not someone who can currently afford it but I was hopeful it would be better so that I could buy one. But seeing everything going the way it is I’m so disappointed. I’d sooner spend my money on the untested Bronco than this
When we bought the wife's Jeep she insisted on a two-door. It stickered for 41K but thanks to being a holdover and typical FCA incentives it ended up being 34K. It seemed like a lot for a toy, but looking at it realistically that's not a bad deal for a capable 4x4 convertible. The 50-60K these Gladiators demand is a lot harder to swallow given they're not particularly good at either of the things they're supposed to be.
@@hippiebits2071 Everybody is entitled to their opinion. From my perspective, it will never look like an Italian sportscar, and a set of bigger, more aggressive tires makes even a Rubicon or a TRD Taco look better.
I bought a 2021 from a dealership and did all my research before hand. Its a soft top so I got what I have always wanted. A Jeep wrangler, truck for hauling and a convertible. I bought this because I could afford it and it met my desires. A new tacoma or other truck - 60k or more. Mine - 46k with good packages. Major reason I bought it - as tall as I am I fit into it comfortable, my wife can drive it without needing a ladder to get in and its' small enough to be driveable but not like a full size truck like I have had a few times before. With a full size truck I was the only one to drive it in the family of 6. Is it perfect - no, but if you do your research for all the things that you want out of it, then you make the decision. It does off road great, runs good, and has enough room in the back truck bed for most anything that I need to haul. It also has towing capacity that I needed - just enough but not to much like a full size truck. My biggest suggestion is to see these videos on their driving styles and desires, do your own research and test drive, then make your decision. With the market that has changed these Gladiators are hardly ever on the dealer lots anymore. So some folks are buying them and loving them. After many years rebuilding cars, driving lots of types of cars over 40 plus years, this is the happiest I have been in 30 years driving. So best luck on what you get.
Well too bad. I love mine. Coolest vehicle I've ever owned. The ride quality is fantastic. Everything is easy to reach and I think the seats are very comfortable. Now keep in mind I'm only 5"4. I came from a full size 2015 Chevy truck to the Gladiator. The Chevy was nice, but I really didn't have use for a full size truck. It was also too roomy for me. Had to lean forward to reach the hvac/audio controls. My Gladiator didn't cost me $60k. Cost around 43k. A Jeep is a fun vehicle, not a work vehicle. The Jeep truck is for someone who wants the fun factor of a Jeep, but still needs a vehicle to do some "truck stuff". Obviously if you do alot of heavy truck stuff, then you get an actual "truck" truck.
I have the same exact jeep as the guy in the video I love it I have 57k miles on got it brad new and have never had any issues only thing I hate is trying to go fast because this thing is slow asf 😂
He keeps comparing the gladiator to other vehicles but it's not those vehicles its it's own thing, it's like an all terrain tire, it's not great at anything but it's good at everything.
If youre passionate about offroading and need to tow a little, this truck is PERFECTION. I have a launch edition on 37’ with a 2.5” lift and synergy upgrade sll around. I can confirm it will do nearly any offroad trail, and tow my RV. So to each their own i guess.
You made me feel better about my new bought truck, I freaking love it, it’s not like using it for work, it’s a damn jeep, a wrangler with a truck bed, I feel amazing driving around south Florida with it 😎
Exactly!!! These aren’t for everyone. I love mine. Mine has a 4 inch lift on 40’s and 2.5 ton steering,5:13 gears, truss, antirock sway bar and other upgrades. Really fun building it and experiencing the capabilities on the rocks.
I dont think it looks right I think it should be a 2 door not a full 4 door (if executed right, would cut the wheelbase down) Also I think the way the back of the 'cab' ends and the way the bed starts doesn't transition right It looks like they just dropped a regular wrangler on a Ram frame and added a bed I think there were alot of poor choices in execution
@@MsArjun1111 Not sure what you mean. Why on Earth WOULDN'T a brand-new 4x4 vehicle be capable of driving along a dirt-road, and how would that damage it's ECU and camera systems?
@@SiCrewe There's always a break in period for motor vehicles, my last car dealer specifically barred me from going offroad for a good 500 kms. It was a toyota too, something about the sensors calibrating to normal levels and the diesel being 'broken in'. Or maybe they just had a mile wide streak of bad luck.
If they’d allow you to fold down the back cabin area so you could put longer items into the cabin it might have been worth it. However the storage is just too small to be useful for my needs. It would have been cool if you could fit 8’ items in the back utilizing the rear seat space.
One of my clients bought one this year... after fighting with FCA, he finally got them to do a buy back due to the lemon law. He had less than 1500 miles and it was back at dealer 8 times
My boss does that Gives us meal money so we know what other restaurants are serving and quality of their food. its a great way to know what your competition is doing.
Turbo diesel gladiator is definitely desirable it’s an amazing truck. My only complaint is small cabin because I’m 6’4. Also you can buy a brand new diesel without a 10k markup or buy a used one with 20k+ miles for Msrp
The only ‘wish’ I have for my ‘20 Gladiator is 1 ft more of length in the bed. Other than that, I’ve put 8k road and off-road miles on it in 4 months and couldn’t be happier with it. It drives and handles really well, and the interior is very comfortable.
@@jasonmacneil2256 That works in some cases, but I’m putting a cap on it for camping and the extra foot of bed length would give me more room to stretch out for sleeping
It's like comparing apples, and I would say a mango. Two totally different vehicles. Just like I told the old lady when I got my 2021 gladiator rubicon, don't expect to go on a 400-mile trip on this thing, but if you are up for an off road adventure hop on in! I love mine..
Teered up a bit, when he talked on how tough this year has been on everyone in terms of isolation. Protecting the elderly from this virus while maintaining mental health.
The area where I live must be the only place that didn't really change that much when it comes to Covid-19 other than the limited indoor dining and stuff.. We had no isolation and life continued as close to normal as possible..I feel bad for all of the people that had there lives significantly changed and in some cases destroyed even when they followed the guidelines
@@rme5596 i actually enjoy the look of it. Same way some people like blonde, some like brunette. Its a personal judgment call. Glad you're not too opinionated.
That, and also when people actually went and looked at them and realized the build quality was on par with Mattel Toys (OK, not even that good sorry Mattel), they decided to look elsewhere.
@@williamparker7823 its worse, its a well known fact that the pickup manufacturers build in a much larger profit margin on trucks. Take the F150 from Ford, the Silverado/Sierra from GM and the Ram from.... Chry,, wait Dia, no FCA or whatever they are nowadays and each company would struggle to survive.
When this was pitched as a two door short bed, I was all for it. Over night, that concept art went away, and we got this big pig, supposedly geared toward buyers concerned with towing. (But not enough where it was actually good at towing...) That, matched with price bloat, and thesis what you get...
My first job was at Freddy's in Lenexa Kansas in high school. Believe it or not, I worked with Tyler, Phil, and JC for the majority of my time there. I remember when I got my first car, a 1990 Buick Reatta, Tyler was super excited to see it and talk about it. I had absolutely no idea he ran a RU-vid channel back then. Wish I did. So good to see you're doing well man! Now I want a patty melt 🤤
I’m thinking of getting one for work and fun. I need a small pick up for work. I live in California so I want a convertible and I hike and camp so a once in a while 4x4 works for me. I also don’t care how ugly it is.
Hey there! I also reviewed the Jeep Gladiator in my channel, and I must say it did feel under-equipped. I love the design idea and it does resemble those 4x4 you see in action movies at jungles. But it did have a high price too! Greetings from Belgium
Dude it's an overpriced Wrangler with a bed of course it's not worth the hype lol, and now it's even more worthless with the Bronco coming out. Sell it and buy 10 more hoopties
I think it's better as a base model and not expect to do any real off roading. Most people just wanna tow a camper or a boat to the next state with some shit in the bed, not a full weight car across the country. I think it needs a little more power and is overpriced but its a great option instead of a taco which is also overpriced. Taking the roof off does look like it sucks but it's not a breeze on a wrangler either. I haven't driven one but it seems like it'd be more practical/comfortable than a wrangler.
@@caseyman97 but with the Taco at least you're getting a solid car that you know will last a lifetime. We had two Grand Caravans and a 300C, they're not the greatest quality. Especially when talking about the FCA era
Thanks for your video. I have one of the first out in 2020 and having it that long I still love it and fits my needs perfectly. So your video gives good example to do research on a vehicle that fits your needs before you buy. Maybe lease first. Thanks again for your info and input 😊
You're right about us losing one of the greatest generations. I'm a sophomore in Highschool and my health teacher is up there in age, around 70-80 years old. He still worked at my school because he was passionate about his job, he taught us life lessons and told us so many storys in class. He has type 1 diabetes and he wasnt supposed to live past 40 years old but yet he made it. Sadly he's having heart issues, he was supposed to have heart surgery because the valves on his heart are shot. He needs a new heart. Because of his diabetes and some kidney issues he has no immune system and he cant have the surgery. He's home from the hospital and in the end of life care. The doctors gave him 24-48 hours left. 2020 has taken so many things and now it's taking my favorite teacher away. He hasn't passed yet but it's coming soon.
If you can, maybe phone him and thank him for being your favorite teacher. Don't talk to him "like he's already dead", just talk. He may not be in any shape to listen or talk so you might not be able to speak to him. don't regret anything if you can't talk to him, but worth a shot.

@@juliogonzo2718 His family put out a statement giving their phone number for us to send video messages but by the time I saw it and was getting ready to make one he had already passed away
I think the diesel would be more worth it because it's much torquier. That or Jeep needs to fit the 5.7L Hemi in it. That being said it does what it's designed to do, biggest issue for me is price, they want 60k for the Rubicon which is probably the most desirable trim level and it's insane. I could buy a truck cheaper and do some pretty nice aftermarket stuff to it for that price.
I found myself in Broken Arrow OK on business. I saw a Freddy's right by the venue. Thanks to Tyler I had to give it a try. I was NOT DISAPPOINTED! Great burgers, onion rings etc. Thanks Tyler. I will be eating here again. 😃👍
When he traded that Jimmy for the Gladiator, I was sure he was going to regret it. For the same or less money, you can get a super nice F150, Ram or Tundra thats a whole lot more truck in so many ways.
It all comes down to what you're needs are honestly, there isn't a Truck that competes with the Gladiator on what it offers. If you are complaining about the towing capacity on a mid-size truck that's purpose isn't primary focus on then it's your fault for not doing the research. The Gladiator is running the same engine out of the Jeep Wrangler so don't expect it too pull 7,000LBS comfortably. If you are looking to tow then you shouldn't even been thinking about the Gladiator...Go for a 1/2 and above lol.
@@ricelife6336 That goes for offroading too, it's offroading truck, so it will be long truck off road, on the other hand look what "The Story Till Now" puts his Gladiator through,...However the engine lineup needs 5.7 in the list, at least finally the small diesel is on it's way, but especially for truck, it would not hurt to have another at least 4L or bigger diesel
I have 55k miles on my Gladiator Mojave. absolutely love it but I did my research, had 2 wranglers prior and bought it to fill my requirements. research is your friend. work smarter, not harder.
The H3T wasn’t a success for the same reasons the hummers as a brand died. And none of it had to do with performance. A recession with climbing gas prices, absolute nonstop negative media coverage and attacking are what killed the hummer brand. Of all the hummer models the H3T retains a lot of its value, even ten years after the last one was produced. Most these days still sell for over 20k when they retailed for 40k.
dmoney8766 the Alpha models came with the larger V8, it’s a common misconception that the H3s were built off the Colorado chassis. The Colorado chassis is only 5% parts compatible with the H3 chassis. The Hummers was enlarged and reinforced. And even if it were the case that the H3 was just a Chevy Colorado. That would still be preferable to the jeep gladiator.
Hell, I'd take that atlas 5 cylinder over that jeep V6 anyday. That 5 banger is plenty torquey, and fairly fuel efficient, my old man's h3 netted 20 mpg with it. Meanwhile that V6 might be more efficient, but it's not exactly torquey.
Really appreciate the detailed seat comments for tall/long legged folks. Thigh support in the form of seat cushion length and/or tilt adjustability is a huge concern for me as well. Also, now I want some frozen custard, thanks.
@@MikeCris couldn’t agree more, I feel like the manual thigh extension option used to be more widespread in the late 80s/early 90’s in sport seats. Toyota/Lexus continue to offer them in power form but in fewer vehicles. They were removed from the latest gen of the Avalon, but I think still can be had in certain trims of the Tundra and Highlander and in the Ultimate trim of the ES. The Ford/Lincoln implementation is pretty drastic and pricey option-wise. I’d be happy with a manual cushion just like the BMW
@@juniorjohnson9509 definitely, they were pretty rock solid back in the day. Jeep is definitely not a Jeep anymore, just a Jeep badged Chrysler. Chrysler destroyed Jeep. Very sad and embarrassing.
@@trplpwr1038 Nah Chrysler was still the butt of reliability jokes even before they were bought by Fiat. They really started to decline in the early 90s after Iacocca left.
Fiat built it what did you expect. I towed with a overweight trailer about 1500 miles I had to run fog lights at night in order to keep people from flashing high beams at me. Did all types of terrain and it survived. I agree about the length compared to the older Jeep. I got 14 miles to the gallon which was decent. The cab noise is loud I had soft top. I am a tall individual as well and did have some comfort issues. Great video
Tommy mentioned all the negatives Tyler brought up even though he likes it more just for it's off road capability. For 10k in upgrades it should be off road capable!
Yes the two main negatives they had, otherwise they like it quite a lot. Hopefully they can correct soon. It's actually odd they messed up the seats lol, usually they are pretty good at em.
