@@Diaphataoc is meant for protecting people 18 and under. The supreme court over saw it used against a teen who was 18 and his gf was 17. He was sent to jail over it for a few years. The supreme court said it was never meant to be used that way

The boyfriend was black he was headed to ncaa and scouted for NFL but spent all potential years in jail. Age of consent is a great protection when used correctly. Aoc is generally a protection here though someone mentioned England being 16. I think the biggest difference is.. Aoc generally doesn't mean a 30 yr old can start having sex with a 16 yr old in America but in England that's absolutely the case.
@@FFmaxxx Damn I'm English and I didn't even realise our AoC laws were that messed up - like I knew the age of consent but I didn't realise there was no age limit at 16. Just did a double check and yeah - a 16 year old can have legally have sex with anyone (even your 1st cousin which is another way our country is messed up), but can't legally sext anyone because... Yeah no these laws do not make any sense. I do wonder how depraved our politicians are behind closed doors that they can look at 16 year olds getting groomed by pensioners and people marrying 1st cousins and think it's okay. Ngl though if you're 20 or over and even just platonically dating a 16 year old, most normal people in the UK will think you're a nonce and many will not keep it to themselves. Hell, when I was 17/18 dating a 16/17 year old the age gap felt a little weird to me; now I'm 25 I can't imagine dating anyone younger than 21. If I found out any of my friends were, I don't think I could stay friends with them.
Age of consent is lower in a lot of countries. This is with Nuance ofcourse, where I'm from it's 14, but if you're below 18 it can't be with someone of three or more years older. Almost all countries in Europe have it somewhere between 17 and 14. Criminalising it only hurts those teenagers and it's barely enforced anyway. This doesn't mean that predatory behaviour is legal, ofcourse not. But if two consenting teens want to do a little friendly fire, the state isn't going to interfere. We also can drink at 16 and we get driver's licences from 18 or older. In cities a lot of students don't have them because they're often not extremely necesary. Driving licences are also very hard to get, the tests require you to read up on a crap ton of rules. In my family, older women are not uncommon partners, my brother met his partner of 27 at 17. He studies law and she teaches art. He's a very organised, handsome and reserved guy.Both my other two brothers have slightly older girlfriends and my father is kind of a wildcard ranging from students who stayed at their home, to apparantly a teacher once, and two of my grandma's friends (they were younger than her but still...).
