I have the 2012 Camry 3.5L and has a torque converter studder due to a computer software module glitch i brought the car in with 64k miles and was told it had to be under 60k to be repaired. Im now at 110k miles and was quoted 5,600 cars only worth 9000 what should I do? I still owe 12000 on it.
Congrats. Similar with my situation. I come back to this video every once in a while.. my car still drive like new money. I paid cash for it about 5k with 135 highway miles. Car still drive smooth
I’ve had a 2012 Camry since 2012. Honestly been the best car I’ve ever owned. Only had to replace a brake light switch once but other than that no issues whatsoever!
Have you had any oil leaks ? I’ve been trying to do some research on a new car since my infinity caught on fire and all im really seeing as an issue is common/not so common oil leaks
Good to hear as I just bought one with 150k here in 2024. My co worker who is also a mechanic and autobody person looked it over for an hour and a half and test drove it cold and warm before I bought it, said it was good to go. Looking for it to last. It was well taken care of
For clarification - this 2.5 with the 6-speed continued past the 2012 model until the 2017 model. 2018 and newer use the new dynamic force 2.5 and 8-speed transmission
My 2010 Camry had this one. It was the first year with the 2AR-FE and the 6 speed transmission. Good engine! The original engine of my car was flooded and I replaced with a 2012 2AR. 💪
I have a 2013 Camry SE 2.5 L and I absolutely love it!! I bought it brand new and after 7 years and 8 months I only replaced the brake pads. I haven't seen my mechanic since then..😂👍. Toyota Camry 2013 is bad for mechanics but good for drivers.
@@30-06 Yes I bought a 2011 tC for an amazing price but apparently people who drive tC's are statistically some of the worst drivers... I pay $200/month for insurance
Never owned a Toyota but I've noticed Toyota owners have more than one in the drive way. Seems like where I live Toyota owners always has at least two.
2AR-FE rocks, plenty of power, Scotty is right, good economy, 6 speed has enough gears and is reliable. I have the slightly re-styled 2015 Camry, easily the best car I've ever owned!
Hey Bunk, I just bought at 2009 Camry XLE with the 6 cyl. (2GR-FE), 6-speed auto trans, two months ago with 102,000 miles, and yep, full clean CarFax. Question for you, do you hear a bit of a chatter (faint diesel-like sound) when you accelerate up to about 35-40mph until the engine is fully warm? I've been researching this engine sound since I got the car, most say it's a normal characteristic of the 2GR-FE but I'm not sure. Once the engine is fully warm the sound goes away. Man I do love the performance and smooth power of this Camry.
@@kennethwilliams4874 thats a piston slap. Same on my 09 venza v6 like yours. Bought it used 9 yrs ago. No change. Its just a noise when engine is warming up. Not worry anymore. Very durable engine
I still have my 2013. It's a badass car, has never failed me. I've had lube guys state that they have NEVER seen an undercarriage that was as clean. No leaks whatsoever.
I’ve got a 2013 XLE with the 2.5L. Bought it 2 years ago. I hate how boring it is, but love how dependable it is and the great gas mileage. All I have had to do besides tires and oil change was a new windshield and tinted the windows.
I’m about to buy my grandmas one owner 2012 Camry SE only has 68k miles garage kept. Buying it from her this week and I always watch your videos so I found this gem and now I’m even more glad 🙌🏻🙌🏻.
I've got a 2012 le with the 6 speed and it's had shifting issues from the start. There was a recall on them, but I missed it by a couple weeks. It shifts fine from first to second, but throughout the rest of the gears it bucks and chatters as if it's slipping if driving normal. Now if you drive it kinda hard, it shifts beautifully. It's a little better if you shift it manually and let the rpms climb higher before shifting. Toyota said it was a programming issue on the transmission and it required a reflash. I bought the car used over 3 years ago, and seeing as I missed out on the recall, I can't see paying the outrageous price they want to do the programming on a 12 year old car, so I just drive it kinda hard.
Just updated my 2010 to a 2017 with the 2.5 litre, 6 speed automatic. I must say I am impressed, it's solidly built and the audio system is awesome for the base model. Hoping it lasts me a few years.
This man has personality ! 🤗 I'm supposed to be learning the big secret🤭, but instead I just listened to the character in the man . He seems like a cool old man. 😎💪🏽
I have a 2014 Toyota Camry SE with about 82K miles on it. Was thinking about selling it for a quarter mill, or trade it for a mansion. The buyer would obviously be getting the better deal.
Being driving many of these as Taxis since 2012 and they are super reliable and economical. Most taxis in Australia are these for good reason as Scotty pointed out -great engine, bullet proof transmission and economical with enough power to satisfy. I would go one step further and say the Hybrid is my favourite as its super quiet and has better fuel economy but the battery pack needs replacing every 250k. The transmission is definitely better and feels much stronger than the later models. This is definitely the best car second hand car you could buy and Scotty is the first to say it.
yeah, my friends own a vw, and he has own garage, his golf broke water pump and cost $600, meanwhile yaris or corolla only cost $80, and his friend dsg gearbox broke, even only change the mechatronix cost $2700, and dealership charge more for cost nearly $10,000
Went car shopping yesterday, new ones are stupidly priced. Wife and I decided after alot of research, found a camry just like this, same color. I know these are built better than the compitition . $11,500 with 130K miles. About as perfect condition like new,
Happiest driver in the world, 2013 Camry XLE, I bought it new, 98k miles now, not a SINGLE PROBLEM, maintenance done by myself, I change the transmission fluid every 30k (genuine Toyota WS) and use Idemitsu or Eneos synthetic engine oil only.
I have this exact car 2012 Camry 4 cylinder SE red. Bought it from original owner under $10k in 2016. Just make sure you get the torque converter replaced under the extended warranty. Bulletproof now, runs like a new car 126k on my way to 300k. I’m a truck guy at heart but this car is all I need. Got a class 2 hitch for pulling small trailer and I can rent a truck at Lowe’s for $20 if I need. Love driving this car. Plenty fast enough, maneuverable and great gas mileage. My wife loves driving it too. Can’t go wrong with these cars.
There are a lot of transmission issues with these cars but he doesnt mention that? I just bought one based off this video. Only 54000 miles but we started to notice shifting problems
Yea the 2012 to 2014 camry have the torque convertor problem in their transmission. I would immediately get rid of your car and buy a camry or a corolla that doesn't have transmission problems. I started to notice its when 2007 and above models all their camrys have problems. So I bought a 05 camry, it doesn't have any problems and im at 224k miles and still runs good.
Bought the same exact 2012 Toyota Camry SE 2.5L that was my Pop's in 2020 only had 47k miles such an Awesome car His other vehicle I bought from him in 2018 2005 Chevy Tahoe 5.3v8 LS 4x4 with trailer towing package 3rd row seat rear ac and heat & factory Bose sound system with just 25k miles garage kept : only thing had to buy was 5 new tires because the sidewalls all set rotted first warm day I drive it & the Firestone sidewalls literally were pealing off in big chunks The local mechanics all really enjoy maintenance and talk about how they are great vehicles as you do Scotty Always enjoy your videos & appreciate them a lot
Bought my 2010 Corolla in November 2011 when it had 24,000 miles on it. Just crossed 173,000. Have kept up on all the routine maintenance. It has only required 2 repairs, totaling less than $500 in the last 8 years. My only complaint is the front end is super cheap plastic. It cracks if you look at it funny.
@@s0129570 Mine is hanging on for dear life on the driver's side. It's basically like this Camry, but nothing to hold it when you pop it back in place. lol
Specs: 2012 Toyota Camry 4 cylinder, Engine 2AR-FE (replaces 2AR-AZ, pre-2012 which had bad rings and burned oil) Transmission: 6-speed; runs good. Don't get the 8-speed (after 2012); problems.
I had this exact same car but in black .. everything he says it's true ... You may have a slight problem with the PURGE VALVE which costs very little to fix If your car has over 100,00 miles don't bother messing with the transmission fluid, like I did ... you will ruin it .. If I had not done a transmission flush at 174,000 .. the car would not have started having issues at 184,000 ..... great car .... get one with high miles for your kid if they are gonna need a first car ... just make sure the brakes and alternator are in good shape
I have 2019 RAV4 8 spd automatic transmission I think it’s good... Otherwise why Toyota produced so many Toyota’s to have recall on transmissions.?? 6 spd can problems too as well like anything else
I had this generation also, but mine was a 2014 and was not reliable at all I traded it in and now have the 2018 Camry, I'll see how this one works out
I own this care in the xle version. Best car ever! Little to no maintenance, but I got to point something out really important. Sometimes this car comes w a faulty torque converter. Toyota will replace it if it has issues. Careful
I remember this model and year that was on one of Scottys top 10 reliable use cars to buy on a previous video he made. If anything seriously goes wrong with my 1995 Camry I think this will be my next used car purchase. 😃
I used to have a 2000 but some gaskets broke (repair was more than the car) so i got a 2012 camry hybrid. It's a very nice vehicle and gets 41 mpg in the city and 39 highway
Bought my 2014 Camry,BRAND NEW, and it’s paid off, NOT getting another brand new car for years to come, runs like a new car and looks great. (117,000 miles)
I bought a 2012 Camry hybrid LE with 90,000 mi and now I have over 200,000 mi. Never had a single problem. My only regret is that I should have got the XLE.
My moms 2012 Camry looks exactly like this. With 123k miles we just found out it has the shudder. Torque converter went bad and will cost around $2500 to 3k to fix. Careful with the 2012 to 2014 Camrys the torque converter issue has been described as a guaranteed failure. Toyota not as reliable as they used to be.
Fun fact: for people who don't know and are looking for a used car scion tc 2011+ have the exact same engine and transmission so they are basically camrys that u can get for a fraction of the price and isnt as boring
Oddly enough, I just happen to buy a camry recently. Athough not a great 2012, but more 1993. Big, stiff, and it's an LE. I'm still having to put some work in it, possible clog issue. But I love it, and lots love to modify these cars. Best car to have.
2012 Camry LE with 115k miles on it. Owner has all maintenance records. Good buy? I like to car and want to drive it a couple years and +/- another 75,000 miles.
Just bought a Camry 2012 SE 4 cylinders white with tinted windows, 113k miles, I put 4k miles in 2 months doing some uber and lyft! The car is amazing! Low maintenance, good gas mileage, a ton of room inside, nice sound system and leather seats, padels for shifting manual, bluetooth media, what else can you ask for? Probably the best used car in America!
Miko_Pure I drove a lot doing uber aswell so I couldn’t realize plus now I am focusing on another issue with burning oil! My consumption in 2 weeks 700 miles mixed highway and city it’s 26.2. 65% city 35% higway. The car has now 117k miles, I bought it 3 months ago.
Orllando Sabau if you do a lot driving what really made switch from 87 to 89 ??? // and you are experiencing gas leak ?? Must be a wear and tear item down there
He said that the Toyota changed to an 8-speed transmission on Camry models later than 2012 but doing research and it shows that didn't happen until 2018.
I enjoyed this video, I own a 2013 Toyota Camry and have been very pleased since day one!! Great car. Oh, by the way, this guy reminds me of Joe Pesci! 😂
I would totally do it! I can only do Uber Eats now because mine is a 2001 Corolla (too old to drive people), but this 2012 Camry is now my dream car. ^_^
I had a black Camry 2012 SE, got used with 24k miles, drove it during 5 years, till it was 400k miles doing uber full time here in Florida, never had a problem with it. I just got the 2020 RAV4, I wanted something newer and I love the new RAV4 body style. Let’s see if I can drive this one 400k miles too.
Stephen Bassette I got divorced, and my car was in my wife’s name, her car was in my name. We had to change cars to solve it... I would drive it for more 100k easily, it was in great shape, often my passengers asked me if it was the 2019 model... the SE is very comfortable and have a lot of space. Only had to change batteries, brakes, oil, tires and that’s it. The only thing that I dislike in this car is the front bumper, like he showed in the video... it always come out, I tried to fix it several times, beside that, no complains at all.
I bought my used ‘08 Camry just months before they were discontinuing their ‘oil consumption test’. Bastards denied me and now my car burns oil like crazy. Screw you, Toyota.
I have an 07 Camry SE with 93k miles..just go buy OEM Toyota filter and gasket kit and Toyota WS trans fluid 5qts...any shop will drain and change the trans filter and gasket and refill fluid for about $100 if you supply the parts..I just did mine today my shop used aftermarket filter and gasket ( not as good ) but put in OEM trans fluid...next time I will make sure to buy the correct parts.
I inherited my 09 Camry with 4cyl and found the oil stick bone dry. Toyota replaced pistons/rings in 2018 after oil consumption test. I’m hoping it lasts. But, it’s not good in the winter even with good all season tires. Worst FWD car I’ve driven in the snow. There’s not much weight in front with the small 4cyl and the design.
I own this exact type of car and it’s perfectly just as described. However, mine developed an aching sound around the steering coz of my regular use on rough roads. Currently don’t know what todo but I need a fix.
@@a.s.4914 that's a 50 year old money pit!!! Too many repairs and needs to be constantly flushed and lubricated. Get a 2001 they are street legal and will last longer.
@Joe Joe Keep watching Scotty...common stinkers = Nissan after Renault, Fiat-Chrysler, Mazda except standard miatas, any GM inc. Chevy...any Italian maker...
I was an Ex-Technician at a Toyota Dealership for 5 yrs and this model was by far my favorite in terms in reliability and cost. Majority of the time these Camrys don't need much done to them besides normal maintenance.
Question for you, I have a 2015 Toyota Camry le and I notice only when decreasing my speed around 30 mph in town you can feel it possibly like downshift. Is that normal? Or wise it runs great.
Do u experience and shuddering and bad fuel economy..google torque converter shudder ZHI warranty enhancement program. It also feels like your car is braking when accelerating or while cruising you feel like your driving on rumble strips
2012-2016 With 284,000 bad torque converters from the factory as a former tech you are either stupid or uninformed. And Toyota should be ashamed for not doing a massive recall
