Why would they need to? Theyre tried n true. At least all of their NA engines. With the exception of the ls500 engine, not so much recently within their bigger vehicles@@JAY-xf7du
@@JAY-xf7du The Japanese mindset is "if it's not broken, don't fix it". Contrast to the american one, which is more along the lines of "if it has a scratch, throw out and replace".
I picked one up 5 months ago. You have to drive it to really appreciate it. The engine sound is amazing. Last week my wife and I were driving down some mountain road with the top down. As we passed a sheer mountain wall along side the car, the wife gave it some gas. The sound was so amazing, we both just looked at each other with huge smiles on both our faces.
I’m always hopeful that if there’s sustained demand among entusiasts, NA 8+ cylinders would be brought back at least for enthusiasts cars. Legislation can always change.
@@user-qg2tl3jk9z probably with ultra low production cars, legislation will allow exceptions to rules that apply to other mass produced vehicles. they already do that to some extent, and probably will continue to do so...because those people in legislation will want to have those kinds of rare cars themselves...without breaking their own rules.
@@pex_the_unalivedrunk6785 Exactly my thinking. Regular gas motors are more or less going to be obsolete (and as enthusiasts, who cares?). But there'd still be room for the ICE engines we do care for like Porsche's flat-sixes, coyote v8s, etc. and perhaps we see the return of v10s, v12s, etc. in limited production. It's speculation but wouldn't really surprise me given all the consumer pressure, and that for any legislation, there are ways to circumvent them.
@@Beasy63I agree. Interior is a little outdated. V8 is mid compared to gm and ford’s naturally asperated v8s. 100k for this Lexus? You can get a used m5 competition for less as well as a new corvette
@@BlancoRamirez I actually said that positively. The interior is beautiful, sitting at the very top of craftsmanship and quality versus the competition, even cars that cost more. Of course its not going to be the fastest. This isn’t in the same segment as an M5. Its a grand touring, performance isn’t at the top of the list of importance. They could have slapped on 2 turbos but that would ruin the NA aspect of it. The v8 is refined compared to ford and chrysler. Tame but can get unruly if pushed
Honestly I'm amazed how inflation proof this car has been. Probably the cheapest car in its class at this point while everyone else has gone up 30-100% and yet also probably most reliable and one of the nicest kindof an amazing value at this point
How it is a value when it doesn't do anything better than the competition? It's priced the way it is because a higher price would put it in direct competition with cars that would smoke it in anything that doesn't concern reliability. How is a car that under performs the competition a value? A value compared to what?
@@MercOneA better value buy than the BMW 850i Xdrive for example. This car you’d be able to keep for 15 years, EASILY. Most people aren’t constantly drag racing or street racing their 850i anyways. Getting “smoked” does not mean much when you’ll LITERALLY have more power than 99% of cars and SUVs on the road.
@@MiahV007 Just because you can keep a car for 15 years does not make it a better value. Value means you're getting a better or comparable car for less. Better all around performance is what every other similar car on the market does better than the LC500 which is why it is a slow seller in a slow selling segment. Just because a car can last 15 years doesn't mean squat when it comes to value and "most people" looking at cars in this class aren't buying them to keep them for 15 years either. They're on the next hot thing in a few years. No case made for it being a value when it is worse at every metric than a 850i. Reliability and longevity aren't what drive this segment and it isn't working for Lexus' RWD cars because they're too outdated. IS, RC, LS and LC need help. Make a modern car with modern performance that is reliable at the same time. That is an achievement, not saying a car with an engine from 2008 is reliable. Being reliable is the least it can be with an engine that old.
As an owner of multiple Lexus products I absolutely LOVE the remote infotainment interface and I hate that they listened to auto "journalists" that complain after spending 2 hours with the car and got rid of it. People who actually own and live with these things love them. Who wants fingerprints all over their screen? Who wants to lean forward constantly rather than relaxing against the seat back with their hand comfortably on the center console?
Agree 100%. I have the track pad in two Lexus cars. Doesn’t bother me at all. You get used to it fast. I had no problem with the previous mouse controller either. Most of what I do is Apple Car play. The rest are physical controls. The touch screen makes you take your eyes of the road more, and leaves fingerprints.
I think few people agree. I am from a Lexus family and am a huge Lexus fanboy. I LOVED the nub in my 17 CT200h, it was so functional. I despised the touchpad in my UX. Horrible interface, you don't inherently know where you're pointing without staring at the cursor moving. My father had a 14 IS with the nub, loved it. Has a 21 IS now, and he hates the touchpad. Now I dislike touchscreens in general, and Mazda's knob is one of the better interfaces. But I HATE the touchpad, and love the old nub.
Well, the sad and confusing truth is ppl don't want to spent $100k+ for a Lexus, which is reliable, good looking and something to take pride in. In contrast, ppl want to buy an exotic that has less reliability, super high maintenance cost and lived in the garage all the time. Lexus deserves more consideration and respect than that.
@@bobbelcher678 😊. As long as they can afford it I wish it for them. When my money grow up I will upgrade from a Toyota to Lexus then Rolls Royce or something else.
The other issue, for me at least, is that some need to be able to drive two additional humans around on occasion. This thing is compatible with a child seat, but that's about it.
@@tac6377 Throttle House will often do a new vs old version of a car. See their latest z4 video. So, this is an "old" car by now. Maybe thats where Doug was goin?
As the proud owner of a 2023 Lexus LC 500 convertible (currently ~6.4K miles), I agree with almost everything Doug said in his latest video. I do take issue with his obsession of how terrible the track pad was and feel his criticism of this one shortfall of the pre-2024's is somewhat overblown. I've owned 30+ cars over the years (including 3 Corvettes, a '09 BMW M3 Sport conv't, a '69 Camaro Z-28, a '72 Datsun 240-Z and '92 Acura NSX) and by far, this Lexus is the BEST car I've ever put in my garage.
Doug the kind of guy to complain about reducing the number of buttons in a car and when the car manufacturer reduces the number of buttons he complains about the lack of buttons.
The LFA is a beautiful masterpiece! The car had been designed and redesigned after re-engineering the entire thing. Doug should know that car’s initial styling dates back well before the 2011/12 release thus its design was a few years old upon debut.
I was a valet attendant when these 1st came out and I remember seeing one in the garage and thinking it was one of the most beautiful cars I had seen. Lexus did an amazing job with this car!
In my opinion, as a Lexus RX 350 F Sport owner, I strongly believe Lexus is the best brand to give people a combination of luxury, comfort, reliability, and affordability all in one. LC500 will be remembered as an underrated sports car
*I plan to retire at the end of 2025 at 62 after 36 years in Telecom as a sales engineer. My wife will retire in May 2026 and she's loving life! I feel your pain mate, as a fellow retiree, I'd suggest you look into passive index fund investing and learn some more. My advice: for newbies to grow financially this year, invest. Saving is good, but investing elevates your finances. Why newbie make huge losses on trade is because investing without proper guidance can lead to mistakes and losses. that will stop you from trading, this has been one of the biggest problem to new traders, I've learned this from my own experience
Tracy Britt Cool Consulting was my hope during the 'bear summer' last year. I made so many mistakes but also learned so much from it, and of course from Tracy.
Too niche. Can't match the performance of similarly priced cars, doesn't have the badge status of a European brand. It's expensive enough to be unaffordable to most people, but also too cheap to achieve "exotic" status. Your buyer has to be someone who doesn't give AF about what the neighbors think, can afford to drop 100k on a weekend car, and also happens to be an enthusiast who thinks NA V8s are cool. Sadly that's a very small customer base.
This car is underrated. Might not seem to be a true enthusiast car, but it's more of a beautiful, luxurious open top grand tourer for some relaxed driving on some nice roads

The LC500 has always been a great looking car, even after seven years since it came out and it's still never boring to look at, inside or outside. And yet it still stays old school with that awesome 5 litre naturally aspirated V8, probably one of the very few car makers left to do it that way without turbos. I still would love one of these some day; it's not as fast or agile as other cars, that's for sure, but I would never be disappointed owning something like this. Probably the only drawback is in order to get the improved interior tech, you have to pay full price for the car. while the slightly older ones are vastly cheaper to buy, even though they're limited in with that awful Touch Remote system. Unless you wait for the current LC500 to depreciate....
Snow mode? I hope to someday hit the level of money to not only buy a six-figure RWD V8 Lexus, but also have no issue taking it out on a salty February day.
The LC has beautiful styling. Its performance is behind competitors by a small extent, but Lexus makes up for that by having better cabin design and quality, making it more comfortable to drive, and it's more reliable than competitors since it's a Lexus
@@dlj1285 It's a GT car, not a track car. The LC500 puts every other brand in the dirt when it comes to ride quality. Literal spaceship. Only thing that comes close is the Aston Martin Vantage.
@@yousef.al-assaf Yeah, not so sure that’s true. The magna ride on those C8s is pretty crazy good…I bet it is as good or better when in comfort. And it would bring the performance chops to boot. Good value for money if you’re into the styling. Wouldn’t be for me in the styling department, but on ride there are still other options. An F-type R would be another choice. In comfort they are also pretty good, despite having far better performance and handling when compared to an LC, but it would not be as quality as the C8 magna ride in comfort. Both the C8 and the F-type R bring a GT sports car balance that the LC just can’t deliver on. The LC is a one trick pony, which is completely fine if that’s what you’re looking for.

@@byeMaurice The interior is nice but over-hyped. In person I personally find the interior to be no better than some other options to be honest, especially with the new screen, and the seats are not as comfortable as you would imagine compared to some other options. As far as the looks…I personally don’t like all the angles on the car, but it does look good overall. The proportions and styling of a C8 kinda make me puke…Don’t really like it at all. A Jaguar F-type R? Way more beautiful than the LC in my opinion, but to each their own. Not sure how the LC is ahead on price. Really expensive, like most cars. Similar in price to an F-type R, and the C8 is cheaper. Reliability, no doubt the LC will likely be king, but these types of cars don’t necessarily need perfect reliability if they bring other things one prefers on balance. Good reliability can sometimes be enough.
I rode in the back seat of the LC 500 (hardtop) for an hour...just so I could say I rode in the back seat. It took multiple attempts to enter. Ultimately I had to take off my shoes to successfully get into the back. My feet were in the seat next to me as they would not fit in the space between the front seat and back seat. My head had to tilt to the side to fit as well. Quite uncomfortable, but I have the bragging rights.
Just because the SC's are hideous doesn't mean they are bad cars. Especially since the SC430 had the 3UZ which is like a million times better than any UR engine
I have an 2002 SC430 and I love it and will never sell it. 150,000 miles and rides and drives like new and gets many, " What car is that, it's really cool looking." Taste is subjective and it is better looking than most of the new cars out there.
the thing they good at Throttle House is writing a good script, it sometimes reminds me of old school TopGear where some of the episodes were written like a movie(obviously doesn't reach that level)
As a German, i think the Problem with Lexus (at least here in Europe) is the Pricing. Don't get me wrong, i love Lexus. I bought a brand-new Lexus IS-F in 2011 and owned it until 2017. Never had Issues with it. But my God was it expensive compared to (at the Time) a BMW M3, Audi RS5 (over here in Europe we had an Audi RS5 with a different Look but still V8 before the 2013 one you got in the USA) etc. That Lexus Dealer in Frankfurt am Main, Germany also has a Lexus LFA with 0 Miles/Kilometers on it and back then they tried to sell it for 399k Euros. Nobody bought it. Now when i was there a few Months ago, they still have it for Sale, but now at 900k Euros. Still nobody wants to buy it. Same is true for most Lexus Models, i have no Clue why that is. Toyotas sell like hot Bratwurst in Germany, but Lexus? Very rare Brand to see on the Street for some Reason That said, i'd love a Lexus LC 500 with the V8, but oh my God is it expensive. Don't know about North America, but Lexus is mostly more expensive than any Audi, BMW or Mercedes-Benz Cars in the same Category here in Germany. So maybe that's why Prost & Cheers from Berchtesgaden in the Bavarian Alps
It's the combination of CO2-tax and EU-tax (on vehicles produced outside EU) that kills those nice models. So we have to get our satisfaction from youtube.

maybe it's because German cars have lower tax in germany? pretty much all the German sports lines up are more expensive than Lexus sports lines up in NA, and SEA market.
I had the pleasure of selling a white with white/blue interior Bespoke LC500 Coupe this year. Absolutely gorgeous, and hard to find. The customer also was able to receive a signed Certificate of Authenticity from the LC Chief Engineer from Japan with the VIN and options from his car.
I got to sit in an lc500 at the Detroit autoshow and instantly fell in love, easily one of the best designed and highest quality cars available right now
I disagree with Doug's opinion of the 24MY + being the LC to get. Yes, it may have better and more functional tech, but the biggest drawback for me is that the screen isn't flush w/ the dashboard. Give me the cohesive design of the 18-23s anyday. Anyone whose familiar w/ tech will get use to the trackpad after a few minutes of use.
Exactly, the touchpad isn’t even that bad for all the criticism it gets. The industry switching over to screens looking like it was just glued on was a huge mistake. Would never buy a car with the screen an afterthought like that
I do think the functionality of the touchscreen would be nice but I wholeheartedly agree the older dash was a much more attractive design. I bet the Takumi who build the interior feel the same.
@@hollaz2 it wasnt just the touchpad, the infotainment system was all around crap. The mercedes used touchpads for a long time without any issues at all.
Agreed. I have a 22 model, and I'm used to the touch pad, so it's not an issue. Also, concierge and voice modes should be used so you don't have to fool around with the TouchPad while driving. Again, I have no issue with the pad while driving. I also went to the lexus dealership to see the 2024 model to consider upgrading, and I didn't like the look of the touch screen placement. Looks like an afterthought, which is exactly what it is. The integrated screen looks better.

15:47 When I see this door panel gap I am reminded of how Doug made fun of the gaps in the Maserati back in the day. But this interior is beautiful of course! :D I also see an interesting pattern where the rating of 10 quality is only given to Lexus. Very surprising that the features are still an 8 compared to the old 2021 model in the list with the old infotainment system.
Doug goes on and on about how gorgeous this car is (and deservedly so), but then only gives it an 8 for styling? For me, it's absolutely a 10, especially the coupe.
I met a guy in a trader Joe's parking lot a few years ago with one of these. I think it was the hard top. He let me take it for a ride with him. What a great experience. That's the car guy community!
17:46 This is actually a callout to the seats in the SC430, which had the same detail, except using a metal Lexus badge. Since Toyota has shut down all V8 production, it’s safe to say this is probably, most likely, definitely going to be the last V8 LC500. Which is a shame. That new infotainment is the kiss of death of that generation. The GX460 was also graced with a modern infotainment a year or two before it was replaced.
I own an RC with the same touchpad interface. Once you learn how to use it I would prefer this to a fingerprint laden touchscreen any day. Car reviewers don't spend enough time with the car to know how to get on with it. It's like giving a novice an electric guitar and expecting them to be able to play Stairway to Heaven!
I love that most you tubers record their Ad, and save it, using the same one every video. But Doug re-records his ad EVERY SINGLE VIDEO. That takes a lot of needless effort. I just wanted you to know I appreciate that. =)
How is Throttle House becoming so big? I used to watch them many years ago, but one of their new videos got recommended to me and I ended up watching all of their videos.
Easily one of the best looking cars from the last 8 years. Absolutely love the brilliant looking-concept look of this. I almost pulled my trigger on a entry 2025 IS300 and was overwhelmed by its dated interior and infotainment. There’s no update and still got the silly mouse remote interface from the 2021 model.
Ha! That was my white LC 500 that sold on carsandbids just a few weeks ago. There is nothing that competes at the price that offers the same kind of soundtrack or overall experience. Love the throttle house references too :). This is for sure a future classic. Get yours now. I just spoke with a Lexus dealer and they haven’t had any news on 2025…..
This is a great car. Sleek and beautiful styling, impressive cabin design and quality, Lexus reliabilty, comfortable and relaxing to drive yet decently quick
the old infotainment screen and dash look WAY better, it baffles me how companies are deliberately making these little annoying downgrades... they should have kept the old design and just made the screen touch sensitive
No question the old dash was better - but the screen was too far away to touch so they had to bring that forward, and they just stuck a tablet in the existing dash - not great, but this car maybe has one more model year to run so they didn’t put in a whole lot of engineering effort
Finally someone said it. I was looking for this particular comment. The old design was just better. It was integrated into the natural lines, out of the way, symmetrically correct. Now they just put a cheap plastic stuck on looking screen that ruined the lines. If anything, it’ll just age faster. Doug seems to be too fussed about “technology” in some cars. Does it connect to Bluetooth and play music, CarPlay maybe.. that is the furthest extent people realistically use their infotainment 95% of the time. But nooo… more screen, more better.. Honestly, horrible take Doug. Especially give what kind of car this is.
Waited 3 years to buy my ‘24 LC cabrio. Was just waiting for the infotainment update. It’s my daily driver, I love it. I only wish it had 50 or 100 more HPs. I see 911, SL and Corvette everywhere here in LA, I rarely see another LC and that’s a big reason I bought it. Ur review is right on
They should have a revised version of the LFA V10 or Century V12 in the LC500, in a special edition for twice the price. It would sell incredibly well. No hybrid BS, except maybe for MHEV for emissions and better range, but make it GREAT! The LC500 could be the new flagship of the Toyota Group, not an undesirable retirement car for dentists.
Yeah an LC600 with a V12 would be a dream. But I have to disagree it won't sell well if this one isn't selling well and also sadly it's not the time anymore to release na V12s in non supercars.
As a '24 LC500 owner, I can tell you that there are many more quirks with this car. That said it's a beauty, and inspiring for others based off the compliments I receive. I see 3 C8 Corvettes just on the way to the grocery store out here in Texas, and to have the only LC in town makes the car even more special and exclusive looking. Ambient lighting package would be appreciated as well as remote roof-top controls. And to those that care, a front-facing toddler seat fits in the rear seats if you have a wife who's 5'6 or shorter :) I feel sporty and sophisticated driving it-like I should be listening to the Tron soundtrack while driving it to watch the latest special agent movie. It's a Japanese Aston Martin with the reliability of a Lexus car 👍Most importantly, my 1.5 year old son walks up to this car each time we go into our garage, and he wants a ride with dad.
