Agreed that the 335is is a gem! For years I wanted a 335i, then 335is. I even made a list of all the mods I was gonna put on. When the time came, the prices of E92 M3s were close enough to lightly used 335is' that I took the jump up to the M. Zero regrets a year later, but I know I would've been happy with the 335 as well!
Congrats! DCT or manual? I've had mine 3 years now and it's still a thrill to drive. I did upgrade a bit though ;) You've got to look into an MHD tune. Stage 1 is a very simple and cheap upgrade that will change your car from quick to fast. Stage 2 and 2+ involves minor hardware upgrades, but takes the car into and beyond M3-fast territory
Got my '12 Alpine 335is almost two years ago and couldn't be happier. I prefer it's sleekness in comparison to the bulkier muscular M3. The 335is reminds you it's a special car from BMW every time you start it up and hear that unique exhaust purrr
May try to find one for the wife, didn't know about this car until this vid.. I'd have to disagree the presence of the M3 beats the 335 every time. I take my M to car shows, it grabs as much attention as a ZR1 2011 M3 frozen black edition 20 in North America 263 in the world I'll admit it could be the paint that draws the attention over being an M
Recently bought white e93 335i n54 43k miles from 10k$ clean title. Bone stock, looks absolutely brand new! Love to drive it by the ocean on first freeway in California
I agree, 2012 E93/DCT with 35k here. Bought it 5 months ago and I fall harder in love every time I drive it. Good overview though I don't think you mentioned the 313m rims. Mine has the 19s and I think it's the best exterior cosmetic upgrade on the 'is, and I believe was exclusive to these cars. Also the amazing dark glacier aluminum interior trim was a very rare option on the 3-series but standard on the 'is. Of course the DCT is what truly makes it special for North America since we never got a dual clutch trans except in the M3. All-around gorgeous cars with monster torque, lightning quick shifts, and intoxicating exhaust note. Brilliant factory car. If I had one wish it would be that they had given it some suspension upgrades as well.
Jarrod Smith Definitely! Very solid points you mentioned, if i had to say one gripe for the 335i's in general, it would have to be their lack of a limited slip differential
Such a great alternative too if you don’t want the M3 insurance costs as well. You gotta love the stock wheels on the 335IS wheels as well. That and the stock wheels for the E46 330CI ZHP are some of BMWs best looking factor wheels out there. The only problem now is that the 335IS are incredibly hard to find. At least in the general Seattle area. Great video !
Thanks for doing a video about my baby. I got her last June and LOVE it! Great M performance bits, great power and easy to make more, decent fuel mileage, luxury interior, exclusive wheels and low production numbers make it a BMW that other BMW enthusiasts appreciate.
I have a 2012 335is with DCT and love it, have had many BMW's in my life and this car is fun and quick. I love the DCT and this is coming from a guy who has always had a Manual Transmission. I like this car and compare it to the ZHP E46 as far as trying to explain why it is unique. BTW, I had a 2006 ZHP Coupe with 6 speed too.
Lmao I see these comments all the time. Now I actually always have it in my mind to signal/ I always do. But always think other people will be thinking hey a Bmw driver that signals. Ruined my driving experiences lol.. 2011 M3 frozen black edition
I have a 2014 BMW 335i. I love the hell out of the 335. I was looking to get an m6 with the body style you have. I think it was 2007 and they wanted 20k. I might just wait though and trade the 335 in for an m3 in a few years. BMW for life though. Drove Honda, Acura, Nissan, Subaru, and BMW is by far the best out of the bunch.
Great video! My buddy has one with a DocRace 6266 single turbo setup and it's close to 700hp 😀. As soon as he finishes up his suspension upgrade, I'll have it on my channel!
BMW Fanatic Thank you!!! And no way, i can't wait to see that thing on your channel! I wonder what the power feels like as soon as boost comes on. Must be epic 😱
I just subbed man! i have an '08 e92 335i and i'm glad i found a youtuber i can relate to with my car! i discovered a lot of features and quirks i didn't know before thanks to you. Keep up the good work man💯
SKYLINE GT-R Thanks man! I appreciate your kind words it means a lot! Glad you enjoy my videos! And yea there will be tons of more car videos coming soon so stay tuned :)
Found a CPO 2013 335is about 2 weeks ago and purchased it. Never owned a BMW before but this car is fantastic !! This is not a car for "posers". If you love to drive this is a great car to drive.
Great comment. The car is definitely not for posers. In fact one of the main comments you find here and other places is "nobody will notice it, for close to the same money get the M3 instead and it will turn heads." Don't get me wrong the M3 is great and in fact I would love to have one to track. But the 335is is a better DD and if the reason you want an M3 is to get noticed around town, then...
James Clifford don't kid yourself. The 335 is not a car for the driving purist. It's a pig. And the fact that 335 lovers think otherwise shows their lack of knowledge and experience. The car is nice, fast in a straight line, and stylish, but if you indeed cherish the driving experience you need to buy a Porsche.
Gotta admit that I personally think that spending 25k on a 335is is a bit too much considering u can get a normal 335 for around half of the price and with 2k of mods , it can be more powerful , even though the options and equipements aren't the same but still. If I had 25k , I'd easily go with an M car such as the E46/E92 M3 or even an E39/E60 M5 but that's just me
BMW E46 Thats a fair statement to make and I definitely see where youre coming from, but for around $25k remember you can get a 335is w/ around 25-35000 miles on it, which is really low. An M-car for that price is going to have high miles and most likely seen better days
Johndoe2509 okay nice. I was looking into the MHD as well, the burble tune is so cool. I want downpipes as well but Californias emission standards make it very difficult to run them!
Congrats. They kind of rare these days. One of the few cars bmw exclusively offered for the north American market only. There are only aprox 3500 coupes in the entire world lol.
@boostbrigade so iv had my car for a few months an iv fixed quite a bit of shit cause it was used, idk why but every once ina while ill get oil in my spark plug chambers, ill clean them an theyll stay dry for weeks? Then outta no where theres oil in my chambers again? O-ring seal? Idk lmao plz help if you may know something man
I'm so glad to see you growing this fast , i dont know if you remember me but ive just bought the 530xi 2007 that i've told you about , such a good car . Keep up the great work , looking forward to see you up there on the millions 8)
alex cucu Thanks man! That means alot to me! And yes i do remember :) im glad youre enjoying your car, the E60 is a great platform/daily driver to have
Man i trying to get an e92 m3 but moved to tahoe area & am about 9000ft above sea level & turbos rule up here so im now thinking of a 335is. My first car ever was a 94 325is with sway bars m3 rims coil overs & intake & tune & i thought it was really fast when i was 17... 2door 3series will always have a spot in my heart
Simply Car Things they're both great cars, I just happened to be in the right place at the right time to find one and was lucky that it only had some minor issues to take care of. Your videos are awesome so far, keep them up man!
The N54 is definitely not an unreliable engine from what I've heard, but then again my stock 335is just cracked the valve cover and both VANOS Solenoids went bad which is about a $2500 repair
I am going to agree with your assessment! It slots in perfectly between the 335i and M3. And boy, it looks great and moves with authority. I loved the one I got to review recently. And the sport tuned exhaust sounds great!
Very informative video. I feel like 335is is one of few examples where BMWs not so good depreciation habit can be taken advantage off for the benefit of the customer. Bmw really filled in the gap between 335 and m3 and with the is model gave its owners the feel of exclusivity. I made the switch from 335 x drive to 335is. I'm biased just like the guy in the video. Definitely recommend to test drive the car.
I have an e92 335xi and just got an e93 335is 😳 time to swap the mods! Thanks for explaining the difference my man I thought the exhaust looked different!
I bought mine 5 years ago for 27k w 22k miles. it looks like they are still hovering around the same price as 5 years ago for a sub 30k mile mint example if you can find one. I still love my car to this day. It's a special car for sure.
Mine was a tad bit higher in price when I picked it up a couple of weeks ago... but it is still under full warranty until November 2019, so that comes into play.... I am loving it, having moved to it from the 335d. Different power bands, and a little of a learning curve but I like the M package a lot.
I feel that the 335i was a "parts bin special". A way to use up surplus M54 motors. They could have perfectly acheived the same with the N55 motor. This car sort of fiills the same category of the ZHP 330i from the E46 generation.
A few reasons why I didn't opt for the 335i and went for the non-turbo models instead: - cost - reliability (maintenance costs) - I live in a hot climate and do want the additional heat problems - the 335i in Australia only came with a Satnav system which I didnt want - I prefer naturally aspirated motors (sound, responsiveness, higher redline)
I have a 2012 335is with DCT and found the "kick down" irritating. Flooring it at highway speeds would cause the transmission to down shift too far and rev to the moon instead of finding the N54's sweet spot which is 4,000-6,000, so I mounted a throttle block (a thin piece of plastic under the accelerator pedal) that prevents the last 1/4" of throttle travel and now it down shifts right into the power band! These are high 12 second cars with very simple mods and as the video states, most very were highly optioned cars. Many 335is' are just now coming available off lease - a good time to snatch one up.
Got a n54 e93... drove it 30 miles and the engine gave up.... 😢 its going to Italy this weeks to redoo the whole engine. Hope its nothing to bad and that i can finally enjoy my 335i
ESG Thanks man! And yea i totally know what you mean, the E90 has a lot more practicality for a daily driver, and the E90's have better chassis rigidity! And they look great on the road too 👌🏼
Great Channel. Can you make an episode discussing the auxiliary and oil radiator when it comes to cooling when compared to just upgrading the Intercooler
The 335is is a great car, but for $25k, it seems like a lot, no? What about a pre-LCI E92 M3. They can be found for a little over $20k. Also gives you some room for repairs, and is a true M car.
Samuel Abraham a lot of you’re comparing it to a 335i. However they’re not the same car. You can mod a 335i to be fast you can mod a 335is to also be fast however you’ll never be able to have a dual clutch transmission in your 335i. Which to me, makes the “IS” look more updated on the interior. You also won’t get that 70ft lb Torque over Boost The 335is comes with. You also won’t be a part of the exclusive club with your run of the mill 335. Only 3500 335is were produced in 3yrs so you’ll be sitting in a rarer car than your dime a dozen 335i. I would opt for an M3 but as a daily driver a 335is can’t be beat especially with that low end torque in the 2k rpm range.
Bender Banana I’m comparing it to an M3 tho... idk, I just feel like people would opt for an M3 over a 335is if given the choice between the two. I know I would. The IS is a great car, i just wouldn’t choose it over a year older M3. I don’t see why an M3 couldn’t be a daily haha, unless someone specifically wanted a 6 cylinder
Buddy had 2009 m3 and tried to daily it. You must rev the crap out the car constantly to really enjoy it. Parts are ridiculous. Insurance is high and gas mileage was 13 to 16 mpg barely. He did not do it but lifters can go shit. Many other issues .Fun car but only a weekend or track toy. 335i or is is much better daily. He sold his in 3 months and got a Porsche Carrera s 2011. All around better car and true track toy. M3 fun car but rather mod a 335i .
Brett Brett I haven’t had an m3 before, I have a 335i but I thought that you would have to rev the shit out of the m3 , 335i has the same torque but comes on earlies and also falls of earlier. No point in revving an n54 above 6500 on stock twins. I think for daily usage the 335i with low rpm torqe takes the win.
nice video bro. i agree with u! the 335is is an amazing car. i want one so bad. hopefully soon ill be able to get the chance maybe to sell my 335i to get the 335is.
I am currently looking at a 2012 335is Cab Convertible for $29,000 cad one owner which waas the dealership owner's daughter in law, figures that this would be a well maintained car. Low km's My question is the car has the BMW colors on the bumper, should I keep this for resale value?
I've been looking at an s5 for a long time but I think the 335is for 25k is a much better deal than an s5 with like 70k. Honestly I'm an Audi guy but damn this is a really good deal. The n54 looks very nice.
I'm looking to purchase in the next few days a 2011 335is Convertible. But I'm not too sure with what is standard on 335is vs. what's an option on the 335is... It's an M trim for sure with the better radio. The Convenience Package to my understanding comes with Power tailgate, Keyless entry, Rear Manual Window Shades, Xeon Headlights, Comfort Access >> Not sure totally what that is besides getting with just the key in your hand... Can U shed some light on the matter? Thanks.
I have this car in the white with camelback brown leather in the hardtop convertible with the DC 7spd. I bought it used for $36k for all those reasons. It's incredible to drive, it's an absolute BEAST but total sleeper.... best V6 TT car you can buy!
Yo g do you recommend I buy a 2013 335is or a 2015 335i M performance pckg and I will be making these cars Dinan stage 3 so please lmk? Thanks for the vids etc they have been helpful with making my decision to get a bmw!
Great videos!! What's your take on the difference between automatic trans and manual? I'm concerned that auto will go out sooner and be a huge cost to repair. I'm new to BMW, by the way and you are slowly talking me into giving it a try. Thanks and keep up the good work.!!
Gary Brandolino Thank you! And its really up to your preference. BMW makes both great manual and automatic transmissions which are very strong. For the most part as long as the fluids have been maintained and the car hasnt been abused the transmission should have no problems. At least from my personal experience and chats with other owners
People who are saying they would get a m car with that money they are way less reliable especially the e60 m5 you’ll put so much money into that car and notice it wasn’t worth it the 335i is amazing i own one and the only thing that has ever gone wrong was the charge pipe because they are made out of cheap plastic but i agree this bmw is great
Foreign Whips the e92 m3 and e60 m5 motors pretty much came out a F1 car, I agree there not reliable and you would throw a lot of money into them BUT those M cars are great for a weekend car or track car. Just gotta stay on top of maintenance and treat the car right and it should be no problem for a track car or weekend car. But I would definitely not try to daily those cars that’s where the 335is comes in because it’s more practical
What year is the IS model car you are sitting in? Where in SoCal do you live? I am looking for a nice 335IS convertible as a weekend car. I live in Redondo Beach.
Any issue with the engine or turbo? I found a 2011 335is convertible with relatively low miles...took it for a test drive...VERY FUN! I have a 2014 S5...so this would be for my 23 year old daughter...YES we are both car geeks...Thanks!
$25k for a nice example but there are plenty of cheaper ones . Check out over 500hp channel / website. They go through craigslist to find modded cars and always have good well maintained examples. Go get yourself a 335i thays already been modded to your spec . Have a mechanic check it out and boom you just bought a completely modded car for less than the cost of a stock one.
Are you sure the 335is came with a "stronger oil cooler" than the stock 335i? I thought all E92 335i US-spec cars came with an aux oil cooler on the passenger side, the same cooler?
I honestly am looking around for a car like this but i cant seem to find a seller, could you help point me in the right direction to finding this make and model for sale?
Noel Carvajal how has it held up for you so far? I found one in the low $20s but am trying to decide if I pay $10k more I can get an E92 M3. People say the 335is isn’t as reliable as an M3 but repairs will cost more on the M3. I am confused on what to do. $10k is a decent amount of money and it will not be my daily driver.
Sold my E46, was getting pricey being a college student, learned so much from it but I've been looking into a 335i and then I heard about the 335is, haven't found one for 25k with less than 40k miles, really want warranty
Jason Fu Its not that bad, very mechanical, but I bought mine right at the time it really needed maintenance, I saved money doing DIY but the whole cooling system was replaced, pulleys, fuel pump, if you can find one with these done, your set. the engine is bulletproof but always have at least 1k aside for any emergency
In June I purchased a 2011 335i E93 N55 M sport convertible. It's a beautiful ride. Low to the ground, plenty of power, and great handling. I'd like to look into getting a tune. give your thoughts on that, and some possible ideas on a tune match for an E93 N55!
Go with the MHD tune, me and you have the same car and they are awesome/neck snappers with the top down for sure. If you are going to tune it though you will need to get a chargepipe, intercooler and a new diverter valve or a blow off valve in order to deal with the new found power and to meet your cooling needs. Other things I'd recommend is an Oil Sport Valve Cooler to keep your engine oil in check and under 250 degrees otherwise you will go into Limp Mode (Half Engine power light will come on).
JB4 is great too but MHD is fast becoming the new choice plus it's easier to uninstall if you are under warranty and have to take it to the dealership for services. BMW is quick to blame anything that goes wrong with your car on your mods or tune if you take it to them and they are having problems figuring out what is wrong with it or how to fix it. Trust me, I've been through it with them and if they blame your mods/tune then it will void your warranty.
My car just hit limp mode yesterday out of nowhere. I wasnt driving it hard, no SES light, and no weird issues otherwise Im also not tuned. I suspect either a bad vanos solenoid or a boost leak somewhere. I hope I can resolve it quick :/
Simply Car Things did you figure out what it was that threw it into limp mode? I've had mine for over 2yrs now & never felt it go into limp mode. I have the 6 speed tranny so not sure if that makes a difference. I'm FBO now w/custom tune from Active Autowerke.
hi im looking to buy my first car, preferably a manual. early 5th gen 3series. i dont want the 335i. i jjust want the basic performance straight 6. i can drive stick. whats the max miles youd buy? and how high if people do the regular maintence. in canada a early 325i with 125k miles for 5-8. and the higher the price the lower the mile count. what would be to high.
Service records. try to look for one that has replaced the water pumps and thermostat. Make sure there is no rust. No oil leak(pretty expensive to fix)
MICHAEL HILL it took me a month to find one and when I went to go look at it..i feel in love and got it. the only problem is that when I was there aleast another 6 buyers called in to buy it too.
I used to drive 328xi for a year never had problem only change oil. and I decided to trade into 335is DCT white and red interior, and it has 24k miles plus remus exhaust, carbon wing , carbon dual diffuser , dci, cp and bov for 32k, after 2weeks of driving I return the car from the dealer I feel like 32k is way out of my budget. now I end up with 2011 335i automatic with 60k miles for 20k 2months ago and Im not happy with auto transmission, its not fun at all. its not same as DCT. I'm planning to trade in the future into 335is with manual or DCT. Since I put down 3k Should I keep the car or trade into 335is?
Jose ph I would keep the car. You can flash the transmission to shift much faster than in stock form. Look into the xhp or alpina transmission flash for bmw 335i
I don't agree with this at all... you can get a 2008-2009ish BMW M3 with around 80k miles for around 25k if you search. I've owned both and much prefer my M3 for race car sounds and superior handling. No one gets excited when they hear you have a 335is. Their eyes get big when they see the M3 badge. :)
Well the E92 M3 is a wonderful car to own, and it definitely has its own perks. But if you really feel like you want a 335 im sure theres always one out there you can swoop on!
Dang man! So many BMW youtubers I watch in one place! Great video btw do you think you'll ever do small DIY type videos? Or do you prefer discussing more?
Mikel Wemblay thanks man! And i will definitely be doing mods/DIY's and stuff and filming those! I like discussing too but I definitely dont want my channel to be entirely based off that!
Mikel Wemblay Thanks man! I dont have anything too crazy in the works, but I do have some cool plans which you guys should be seeing in the near future!
Its all up to your preference. But I would make the argument that a WRX does not have the same driving quality and feel as an E9X BMW, nor does it make nearly as much power. But its a subjective answer
Price for for a c6 z06 have been around 25k since the c7 was released so no lol 😁. The porsche 911 turbo 996 were also around 25k for the higher mileage cars. the 997 were around 30k to 40k on the low end.
I can't really justify spending the extra thousands on a 335is. You can get a 335i m sport for much cheaper, tune it, and it will be more powerful than the 335is. Save thousands.
Would enjoy a bmw CA caravan/meet-up sometime w/the bmw scene while my son & I are there on a father sonRoad trip frm MN n my 335is convertible this spring/summer 2020
This bmw IS drives better than the new 435s and sadly better than M4. 3 series of 2012 or before were real bmw. Unfortunate these are not being anymore ☹️
