The S&P 500, an index that measures the stock performance of the 500 largest companies in the USA, closed out this week at it’s highest level ever.
The USA releases it’s worse GDP figures in history? The stock market rose the next day, research is released that this whole ordeal may not be over until 2022, 1% rally in the markets.
Is it fair to say we are right back in a market bubble?

RedMatter nah what he said was capitalism. You can’t possibly be making the argument that people could’ve frugaled their way out of this one😐 even if you were the most responsible person in America, im pretty sure your 3-6 month emergency fund would’ve dried up by now. He’s right, the majority of the people gaining from this are the wealthy. A lot of people are screwed, regardless of any personal choices they could’ve made. Even before the economy took a massive nose dive, we already had many glaring institutional problems (particularly with healthcare, higher education, early childcare, stagnant wages etc..) that affected people’s ability to save...or even get by.

@Ken Richard This is why minimum wage should be tied to inflation. It's also worth noting the government gains nothing from inflation so they are not trying to devalue the dollar. It is merely a side effect of stimulating the economy to keep it from stagnating which would kill off many businesses. At least inflation can be brought back under control after the crisis.

When small business dies, big business thrives. Essentially the businesses on the exchanges will have far less competition in the new normal, so the stocks go up. Well you're partially right, having undermined the productive capacity of the US, Trump has decided to double down in going full Zimbabwe and has set the money printers going at full tilt whilst also running a record high public deficit (which he's been doing since 2016), this invariably has an inflationary effect, and with the reduction in usual consumer behaviour due to the pandemic and the low interest rate on US treasury bonds, that inflationary effect is being funneled directly into the stock market. What I suspect will happen is that once all this monetary and fiscal stimulus ends, and once the pandemic comes to an end and the recovery rate is slower than everyone expected, the market will crash... probably soon after Biden takes office... and of course because people are retarded they (mainly Trump supporters) will blame Biden for this, but it will simply be a necessary market correction. Currently in the process of gradually reducing my US holdings at the moment, as no one really knows exactly when this will happen (or indeed if it will happen, it's just my opinion) - doing it gradually means I sell at effectively the average over these few months past, present and near future which I consider to be generally inflated.

@@decus9544 i never made any political statements. I don't take sides. What will happen to asset prices if the crash you expect, actually doesn't happen to the market, but instead, happens to government currencies? What if they become significantly devalued? The thing is, we are kinda already seeing a triple digits devaluation of currencies against stocks. For the market to increase by 50% in just 4 months that is triple digit growth if annualised. That is potentially in hyperinflation territory. All as this has been happening, we have all been saying 'this has to stop, it can't continue. Surely this is the top'. But week after week, the increasing stock prices are relentless. There have been no real pull backs, and slowdowns are being followed by rallies. If you're wrong, cash may just be a terrible store of value for a while.
@decus9544
@decus9544 3 года назад
@@truth.speaker Well I agree completely that cash is also an awful place to keep your money and infact despite the inflation of the market I'd say that cash is still an even worse place to keep your assets, it is indeed subject to the same inflationary risks albeit later (once the pandemic ends and consumer spending is back up) but, of course, doesn't pay dividends in the mean time! When I said I was reducing my US holdings, I didn't mean that I was simply converting it into cash, that would indeed be silly... Indeed holding cash is always silly, even if one wanted to they'd be better off holding it in cash equivelents like bonds where there's atleast a yield to offset inflation/ turn a profit on. Holding cash beyond the bare minimum required to cover month to month expenses is always silly... Always.
@truth.speaker
@truth.speaker 3 года назад
@@decus9544 I think cash has its place. I don't mind holding some. It would seem risky not to. What if your assets crash in value and you have bills to pay? Will you sell them at a loss? I just think a certain amount of scepticism about government money is growing. Ultimately, it's the exact opposite of the stock market. It just goes down in value every year. For thousands of years, you could earn interest on cash, so it was a productive asset. Now that it isn't, and it shrinks every year due to inflation, I think many investors will be shunning it. But what happens when everyone shuns it? Hyperinflation! Just think about it. If I offered you shares in a company which had trillions of dollars of debt, would you want to hold that in your portfolio? Probably not. What if I promised you they will definitely go down in value by 1% every 3 or 4 months. Would you want to hold that asset? I'm describing the US dollar. The world reserve currency. It has no more appeal of gaining interest, so to many investors, it's dead weight. In fact, the loss of value with absolutely no potential for gains makes it an ugly thing to be holding on to. Who wants a guaranteed loss every year? Not me, not you, not anybody. So people will abandon it, forcing asset prices higher. With more and more people using technology, the switch to digital money which cannot be mass produced, and being run without trillions of debt, seems inevitable. When that happens, it will inevitably lead to the arrival of the mark of the beast, and the end of the world as we know it. It's all outlined in the book of Revelation in the Bible. Please learn the truth about your future before it is too late! Visit www.jw.org/finder?wtlocale=E&docid=502014129&srcid=share To find out more
@decus9544
@decus9544 3 года назад
@@truth.speaker Well as I say you should hold on to enough for your monthly bills, and if your portfolio is well diversified then it doesn't matter if any one or two of them are crashing as almost certainly some other assets elsewhere in the world are booming or at least holding steady so it ends up not mattering what the local (national) economy is doing. As to your biblical doom saying I honestly give it no respect at all, people have been using the Bible to preach the end of the world for two thousand years and it hasn't happened, so I'm going to ignore it. Is a period of relatively high inflation on the horizon? Most likely yes. Is global digital currency likely to usurp some of the space currently held by national currencies, sooner or later? Also probably yes but we will see. Does any of this spell the end of the world? No, it doesn't. Just diversify, take precautions and make sure you are adaptable to circumstance and you'll be fine.

It's simple. Everyone is staying home and not spending their money on goods and services, so what do they spend it on instead? Stock in the companies they're not buying goods and services from. They're canceling their cruises with Carnival Cruises, because who wants to be on a floating death trap, to stay home spend their money on Carnival stock. They're not buying cars because no one is going anywhere, and they're CERTAINLY not going to spend 100 thousand dollars for one of Tesla's cars which has exploding batteries, so they're staying home to pay more, and more, and more for stock in Tesla. There is ONE justification though. The erosion of the value of the US dollar. You measure the value of something with a rapidly shrinking measurestick, and you'll get a larger and larger measured value. It's largely thanks to that stupid uneven stimulus. And I thought Trump was supposed to be against socialism.

Your comparison between now and Black Tuesday is unrealistic. Throughout the 1920's, the Fed was reigning in the money supply. Today, the Fed is churning out new fiat money at an unprecedented rate. If you look at the price of gold as a metric, a one ounce 20 dollar gold-piece was worth 20 dollars in 1913 (the year the Fed was born). Today, an ounce of gold is $2000. This ratio means that a current one dollar bill is worth about a penny compared to a 1913 one dollar bill. I have no idea what the future of the stock market is, but the amount of new fiat money being churned out by the Fed certainly does appear to be an important factor in keeping the market afloat. In the meantime, it is important to be hedged into real estate, precious metals, and enough cash to keep you going for several months. If you are sophisticated enough, you might do well by owning some Bitcoin. Also, take care of your health!

Buy when others are fearful, be fearful when others are greedy. This saying has always been true and has always applied to the markets and right know people are definitely scared, so buy up.

I love how one at the screens at 3:42 the stock footage of someone looking at two monitors with stock graphs is a RU-vid video

Papa Powell is also not a finance major but a lawyer major. It's insane that such inappropriate expertise is allocated in such a way. We're back at the creators of today's capitalism the monarchs/royalists where they would jump in to positions in their corporations and government alike with no level of expertise or even any understanding nor desire to understand such subjects. Idiocracy is back. And we serfs think they're so smart. When they're everything opposite.
