The PlayStation Vita TV was abandoned very quickly by Sony, but thanks to the homebrew community it's become an awesome little system in 2023.

I got my Vita TV from a local used game store here in Michigan for $25. It was marked at $50, but the guy behind the counter said "How's 25 sound? We're not selling it". I didn't realize at the time just how much of a steal it was. I love this thing. The access to so many great PSP/PS1 games is also amazing. I was even able to take my clear save from Suikoden 1 on an emulator and drop it on the SD card to import to Suikoden II on the Vita TV!

I heard that the entire reason for the blacklist was because certain games used the touch screen/back touch and since the PS Vita TV uses a PS3 controller You can't play them. I think that with a PS4 controller You could use the touchpad to emulate one of the two screens and then just use a button to swap what screen it is. The other option is to just use a PS Vita itself as a controller like you can with the Game boy player.

I definitely regret not getting it, especially since it came with a game and PS3 controller. Though looking back I think the main reason I didn't pick it up was because I didn't have an HD TV to immediately use it on.

8:30 a neat way to get video output from a handheld Vita is through a plugin called UDCD where it outputs video in a similar fashion to a webcam. Can get 864x488 video at 60fps. Some people use Raspberry Pi systems as docks. That said, I have a Vita TV for the sake of convenience, but it's nice to have options.

Got my Playstation TV back in 2015 for around 40 bucks on Amazon. Was a neat companion to my Vita slim as I could use the same memory card for both. I ended up jailbraking it so that I could play World of Final Fantasy on a tv cause I didn't have a PS4 yet. The strange thing for that game and a few others is that there was no real reason for it to not be able to be played on the pstv. It didn't use touch controls at all and didn't really have any kind of resolution or cpu issues to my knowledge. I can only assume it was because there was a PS4 version and the vita version was 20 bucks cheaper.

I bought 2 vita tvs back in like 2016 for 40 bucks each. They both came in a bundle with a vita copy of borderlands 2 and a PS3 controller. At the time I was just meaning to buy a pair of new PS3 controllers, which were still going for $59.99 back then. I didn't even know what a vita tv was at the time, I just knew that I was getting a pair of dual shock 3 controllers for 40 bucks off retail so I happily bought them. Ive never been into the vita or handheld gaming in general, so I never bothered buying any vita games to play on either of mine. The feature I used my vita tvs for was the PS3 and PS4 remote play. I had a vita tv hooked up to my bedroom tv, and one hooked up to my basement tv, from either of those tvs I could remote play my PS3 or PS4 that were both located in my living room. Over a wired connection it worked quite well.

So capturing a PSVITA (not TV) is doable via USB for all models BUT audio has to be captured separately with an audio cable and that is where the sketchy party comes in with the capture I had alot of issues with static even after cleaning the cable, but sometimes after cleaning the static would go away briefly but soon come back mid stream session.

Not surprising dualshock 4s are selling at full price now. They will be producing a fraction of the previous amount, economy of scale applies and so the higher price. In 2020 I got a DS4 controller + PS hits game for £40, in 2022 I got a controller on its own for £45. Now, the only place I can see it still instock new is at JohnLewis at £50. Who knows if/when they'll phase the DS4 out. The PS5 controller was cheaper during the 'Black Friday' sales, went down to £40. You're probably more likely to get a deal on that, rather than the DS4. If you're just looking for a good controller for your phone, have a look at the 8bitdo controllers. The 8bitdo Pro 2 is priced at £42, but regularly sells for around £35. Can be used with Switch, PC, Android, Mac, Raspberry Pi etc either via Bluetooth or USB (doesn't support PS4 though). When I bought mine, it was actually just under £32 in June 2022. I got it & the phone clip for £41 total. It was the grey model, that resembles the PS1 colour.

I can play Destiny 2 or whatever PS4 game on my PSVita, with games that I have. Not 100% sure if all PS4 games can be played on PSVita, but I’d say PSVR games are not playable on the PSVita obviously. With no PS5, I have no idea about that, but definitely an underrated handheld by Sony. I’d say the biggest issue was how expensive the memory cards/chips were and still are. Nice way to play on a bigger screen with the PSTV. Just reminds me of the Super Boy for the Super Nintendo and the Gameboy Player for the GameCube. Speaking of the GameBoy Player I heard a few years ago that there’s a 3rd party product for the GameCube that also plays GBA Games on the big screen. Not sure if it does all GB, GBC, and GBA.

Gosh... I still have my Vita TV... might be time to revive that baby. I never "hacked" or open my Vita up for homebrew.

I almost bought a pstv for like $20 from Walmart just cuz it was so cheap but I wasn't even sure what it was. I thought it was a streaming box that you could play games from another console in your house or something so I didn't have a use for it. Now i wish i had. I love my vita and being able to play those games on tv would be a nice option

I still regret not getting a Vita TV from Amazon when they dropped the price to super low, but at the same time, I don't game on my TV anymore. I just don't want to take over the TV at the end of the night for a game when my wife would rather watch TV or a movie. So as much as I would still want to collect one of these, I can't see myself using it, because I would either end up using my Vita for these games, or my Steam Deck for other emulation and PC games. This was a good video though, and props for keeping it alive. I have always liked the idea, but I don't think I will ever go through with it in practice.

I had one from the beginning. The writing was in the wall at the time so I got it quick before the scalpers. Not much back then btw. How could I resist the novel idea of playing Persona 4 Golden on my 55"

I love using the Vita sure the Vita TV is good for home stuff like Uncharted or playing a older game at home but I like using my Vita for well older stuff as well as generally a great retro machine a well as a great Android or PC gaming device especially with games like Sonic Mania and GTA San Andreas which has been ported over pretty well with very small setbacks or issues.

I bought mine in a GameStop discount been for $15. My brother bought one a few months back for $120 and said it was the cheapest one he could find. I was shocked at how much he paid.

If you would rather just want a PS Vita, you can actually output the visuals to your PC in OBS with a simple plug in. You won't get sound, you'll have to plug a speaker into the Vita headphone jack there, but it's an alternative if you have a Vita and want it on the TV or would rather spend less money on a handheld.

The TV supports streaming from the PS4 so if you put one in another room, you can have your games run in either room. Not sure if it works with PS5 tho.

I've commented this elsewhere but I'm still surprised Nintendo hasn't put out one of these for the Switch. I know my friend would have bought one instead of a Switch Lite.

Dang I’ve wanted a vita tv passively for a while. I honestly only see the prices going up on them… until we figure out how to emulate them well

I know Michael Jackson The Experience HD also used the touchscreen so I wonder 🤔 how it will work as well on the PSVita TV.

If you are trying the internet method to hack your pstv I seriously suggest you use a wired connection. Using the wifi connection failed everything for me even after the installation stated the install succeeded, I only managed to install vita deploy successfully using an ethernet cable hooked up to my pstv and changing internet settings from wifi to wired connection on my pstv, afterwards the internet jailbreak method worked. If there are specific ps1, psp, or vita games that isn't available on pkgj that you were looking just know you can also use the ftp method from your phone to your vita to install games as well, but that method takes longer and requires a bit more knowledge to do so. Hope this helps those who tried hacking their pstv but were having issues due to crashing, the wired connection fixed all of my issues. Blain has a great video showing step by step on how to hack the pstv, just remember to use a wired connection because he doesn't explain that part at all.

I saw a PlayStation TV going for $150 at my local game store not too long ago. I thought about getting it then and there, but I hesitated until after payday, and when I returned not even a week later someone bought it the day before 😫

hold out and find a vita instead.if you got a pc after softmodding the vita it you will be able to output video to the pc and use a ps4 controller wirelessly. So youll get the best of both worlds similar to the switch.

I’m kinda shocked how much PS Vita’s are going for now. I remember when I saw them on clearance for like $40, I allllllllllmost bought them out. But I was like “what will people even want these far”. Oh well. I still don’t see the appeal over a proper Vita.
