Wow, that is an epic fail for these coins, especially at that premium. Too bad that they couldn't think through this process. I ran into the same thing with the high relief elephant which I'll be posting soon. Shame on them. Thanks for sharing and for the warning.
My 1oz Britannia that I bought from the Rm arrived as your Kruger rand out side of the capsule it was also in a non screw one i haven't looked to see if it has been damaged yet luckily the rest of the set were fine, but if some had of come loose there would definitely been damage to them, all the others had a foam inset the 1oz coin never and the capsule was way too big for the coin ,they really need to get back to the screw capsules or have to deal with untold returned damaged coinage
Yet another reason I have steered clear of what could have been an epic coin release. I guess that is what happens when a bullion mint tries to do a collector coin with no real experience? I love my gold 2 rands and my 1/4 ounce gold krug, but I have been dissappointed with the silver release from the initial pricing issues to the shipping issues. Thanks for the heads up!
Interesting that yours arrived without the sealed plastic wrapper here. Bit dubious. I have my own thoughts on why that is. I look forward to seeing the grades returned for these.
S. African mint didn't prepare well with these coins. bad packaging, wrong size air tite. I wouldn't send coins that jiggled inside the Air tite during shipment.
I have noticed that you weren't happy with the packaging of the coins and stated that the South African mint will have to get their act together when sending the coins in a proper way. Have seen who runs the country they don't give a shit about anything never mind how to send your coins in a proper way. Good luck with that one.
Michael Roberts? I am in awe of your intellectual capacity to completely sum just about anything up with such a concise yet organic command of the written word. I have encountered this once before at a facility researching the adult academic genius. I am restricted from discussing it, but basically the subject would write down a description of several unknown artefacts, to be translated into dead languages. The point is that his word skills were so profound and artistically precise, that everyone knew what he was describing in any language. But you remind me of an anonymous teenage savant from Cuba. He could recite poetry in any made-up non existent random language as well as a series of unnatural sounds and flamboyant gestures. (he was on Ripley's) The fascinating thing is that any audience of any age group knew exactly what he was saying word for word when asked to write down the entire poem. I am going to be so embarrassed if it turns out that you are him!
I bought 2 of these, not proofs, but just 2017 South African Silver Krugerrand Coin 1 oz | Gem Premium Uncirculated, from SD bullion for 47.49 a piece with free shipping. Lowest price I have found on these
Always a shame when packaging is shoddy and although these are hot right now. not for me. did see one sell at auction on sunday for almost £240. dunno what the original price point was on release but just don't meet my criteria right now.
Numistacker this is also a common problem with the 5oz proof Pandas... You have to fill the box with bubble wrap to keep the coin in the slot... Shipping internationally is a bumpy ride... I've had several Pandas arrive the same way and one even had a broken/chipped capsule. (I don't have to tell you how hard it is to find a genuine 5oz capsule)
This is so sad, I just ordered one of these and seems the packaging is worse than even a Canadian 1oz Sabre tooth proof - which is more than likely going to spot up ;)
Wow that's a shame. Because I was looking into the kruggerand as my next coin to save for. I lust for the 1oz proof but I may have to re think. Thanks gents.
silver and gold Portugal ...the silver coins normally are in gold however the silver coins are for the 50th birtday of the Kruger gold...silver is ones of ever
id love to be master of the mint ...production line manager at a mint....the royal mint.... id be brutal in making sure every aspect of production from engraver to packer, to designer ...even the cleaners.......making sure every single person took pride in their work ....or else lol
I saw these when they were under £100 and now they are selling for £130 plus and more, I just can't justify it, I realise they'll be popular but can't see it maintaining its price with spots and bad packaging apparent, I may also eat my words time will tell
If you look on American eBay you'll find out it's not the first pres of the cougar silver Krugerrand they came out 5 6 Years Ago by some unknown source again and it looks exactly the same don't differences to date has been changed my advice would be to stay away from these unless you have money to throw out the window
very poor from the s.a. mint, stunning coin, let down with cheap low budget packaging. ...one thing the royal mint are very good at is the design of the packaging. why make a beautiful coin, for a customer, a beautiful coin too....then skip corners on the packaging?.....makes no sense lol......like cheap nasty washing up liquid...no value. great video
i can't ever condone the purchase of coins 'proof' over 'BU'. Silver is so cheap, why pay so much for a shiny coin (premium proof) when you can get the normal bu ones and juggle them in your silk pocket?!
